The point of an Incorporated Association is to be driven by its members and react to things that matter to them.

Make your mind up.

Which is it a "Limited Company" that does nothing for its members OR an "Incorporated Association is to be driven by its members and react to things that matter to them."?????

As publically promoted, the core business of RAAus is to:
• Provide Australians with a safe, accessible and cost effective form of aviation.

If you are specifically seeking advocacy, I think joining AOPA would be a better bet.

Thanks , I will look into AOPA.

If RAA us unwilling to advocate, to Government & QUANGO's, on our behalf, they are not meeting the first item of core business .

If they are not advocating at all, they are just O2 thieves.

I am unaware of any;

  • Significant advocacy on our behalf ie if they are advocating they need give us "chapter & verse" and keep us informed of progress.
  • Surveys  asking what our concerns' may be, such that RAA can pursue them with the authorities.

1. I pointed out that what you want - "to vigorously represent" its (RAA Ltd's) membership is not the purpose of a Limited Company.

2. You asked "What's the point of RAA [Ltd]?"

I should have said "RAA Ltd was a huge    mistake." which I said               many times back when members wanted to change "because we         are not a cricket club" or the famous "no point in having a dog and barking yourself."                                                                                            An Incorporated Association is what you are looking for. If others feel the same, then change RAA back to its roots as an Incorporated Association.

Doesn't take much to find it, does it? it's the only mob that can have a go at CASA. etc.  Aircraft Owners and Pilot's Association.  RAAus is compromised. Nev

You are; it was Reynard that told you that - Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association were good 30 years ago.

Good luck, I had NONE4 years ago getting answers on some advice?
I got bitten, never went back.  Back then, the WEB site was an unattended garbage dump?

Well I had a great chat with a very enthusiastic board member - we were/are very much on the same page visa v Landing Fees to be published in ERSA, Private pilots to no longer need to hold an ASIC, for access to most regional airfields and some degree of Standardisation in Landing Fees.

AOPA can not be worse than RAA when it comes to advocating on behalf of Private Pilots - I am happy to give them a go.

Contributors to this Forum need to realise that numbers count ie give weight to any person advocating on our behalf. If the prevailing apathy continues, we deserve what ever we get .

RAA are busy badgering CASA for MOSAIC, so the  whispers from the CASA basement say?
Interesting that Group G has gone quiet?

Rumour has it, that RAA may be distracted by  greater problems than MOSAIC😈

Expected though. Those who want to fly cross country in difficult areas can get the training and qualifications - not that different from GGA where some just fly around the circuit and training area, others do the training.

The two Big ticket items that get harped on {controlled airspace and group g} both Are already available with RPL and class 5 medical so Any reason for wasting any resource on these Instead of supporting the majority who don't want them seems a fool's errand (or worse)

I believe controlled airspace on a RPC is worth pursuing.

RAAus put a huge amount of effort into Group G and then CASA introduced Class 5 medical shortly before Group G was complete. I believe RAAus management should have seen the writing on the wall and abandoned Group G and started immediately working on controlled airspace. This did not happen. Now Western Sydney is open and still we do not have controlled airspace.

In the next 10 years I see a lot of GA in the US moving to MOSAIC aircraft. I see it as the merging and future development of GA. I do not see CASA allowing RAAus to have significant control of these aircraft or their pilots.

You are probably right suggesting that RPL is the way to go in the current environment.

RAAus keep talking about their dreams but are still not reading the room.

It is a pity that AOPA appears to have zero presence.

BIG PROBLEM - Who will train the RAA pilots for a Controlled Airspace Endorsement ?? - Of the  possible instructors at my airfield, not one, so far, has shown any interest in going down this path.

Then we have the ridiculous artificial seperation of GA / RAA instructors, so no chance of getting a GA instructor to do the endorsement. The whole system is one big crock of excrement!

As stated the system is broken - something  significant will have to change to get matters back on track.

First up RAAus  are only reading THEIR room, not ours?   GA may well move to MOSAIC in the US because there is more money there,  than there is here?
Let me say that CASA are not interested at all in MOSAIC, simply because they don’t have the staffing level and budget, to create the platform for it in Australia.

CASA is currently behind on many of its projects that should have long been finalised?

I don’t see them taking on anything extra in the way of workload especially what MOSAIC would present?
Consider for  access to controlled airspace is going to require TSO spec instruments, and  appropriate  endorsements, which I do not know if there is even a manual for that endorsement training by RAAus?
RAAus have a lot of things to work on, including their new Online examination system for student pilots, like everything it will probably have some bugs to iron out which is understandable but all this, takes time.

Yes it is a big problem.

If you read my old posts I several times said we needed 2 years to bed this down after it was finalised (ie 2 years before Western Sydney opened). This was not rocket science. Western Sydney is open and the controlled airspace endorsement is still not finalised. This problem exists today for all Illawarra, Sydney metropolitan and Hunter pilots. Exactly what is RAAus doing today ?

At my field one of the two RAAus instructors is a PPL.

I understand he will automatically get the controlled airspace endorsement on his RPC without further training or exam.

He could easily teach controlled airspace today but he has no training plan or exam requirements to work with.

The separation of GA/RAA instructors is likely to continue as I believe you need a CPL for GA instructor and many RAAus instructors are not interested in going this route.

I prefer an experienced instructor rather that a 25 year old building hours before he goes to the airlines.

My understanding - TSO is a USA Federal regulation. Australia requires a biannual certification of the required instrumentation

Yep! It would seem they are not" triaging" the projects ie too many irons in the fire at the one time (management???)
