Surely that's not acceptable in a discussion on Ian's Forum? Nev Just because you don't see 2 strokes flying in your extremely narrow field of view does not mean there are not plenty still out there. Once again you show your inability to accept other peoples experiences without making disparaging comments. It is a sad case when you can not learn from other people and only push your owned flawed opinions. Your insistence on forcing your often inaccurate opinion on others and attacking people who disagree with your fiction makes it hard to want to contribute to this forum. 1
facthunter Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I'm not cranky and I'm NOT wrong either. That question is like "Have you stopped beating your wife". I just want FACTS so don't assume it's MY problem. I've been to Natfly and Holbrook plenty of times and flew and instructed in plenty of 2 stroke Powered aircraft and rebuilt Many two stroke engines, including Rotax. I first flew a Thruster at Mangalore Airshow in 1986 with Plenty of onlookers with my flight the day prior being PIC of a B727 which is a bit different.. Nev

Do want me to drive around and take photos of every ultralight for you. A mate has 5 quicksilvers , 3 trikes and a flight star. All 2 strokes. Another has a thruster Gemini. The xair. I know 3 others flying xairs. Thruster88 has 2 thrusters. Another friend has a 582 drifter. They are out there. Jack C as well 582 xair and thruster.

BrendAn Posted 19 hours ago Posted 19 hours ago I can't see 2 strokes disappearing Until there is a viable 4 stroke replacement that is affordable.

What you see as a "Pile On" is people calling you out for poor behaviour. You disregard other peoples experiences and attack them when they show you are wrong. You need to work out the difference between a fact and your opinion because until you do you are the problem 1 1

skippydiesel Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago No reflection on the changes or the personnel moving in/out, up/down in RAA. In the last 50 years or so, the concept of a trained /professional manger, has almost completely disappeared. We now have people, in management roles, who have trained in some other discipline altogether (eg Flight Training, Aeronautics, etc). It is assumed that because they have excelled or at least met their performance expectations, in their origination discipline, they can just move seamlessly into management. True, sometimes the aspiring manager has taken a short course or two in management. Unfortunatly this is mostly "window dressing" What has this got to do with RAA? Simply - If you want an cost effective organisation, it must be run by a professional manger(s). Only managers have the holistic skills to bring together all of the facets in a well run organisation/business. While it helps that a manger has some understanding/empathy for the bushiness, this should never be the primary selecton criteria (all too often it is). Note: In almost every in every profession, there are those who would seem to be born with the skill (talent), while others, who have been trained seem less skilled. This does not change the basic premise. I have no particular insight to the running of RAA, however will say that over the many years of my membership, RAA seems to lurch from one crises to another, interspersed with periods of calm. Unfortunately the perception of a self serving bureaucracy, seems to have deepened. I would question - "Does RAA represent its membership at all" 😈 1
facthunter Posted 18 hours ago Posted 18 hours ago There's other than Briggs Too Jack, on ride on Lawnmowers.. The Motor in the New single seat all metal monoplane is on the Mark. Vee twins have the advantage of not having two pistons stopped at the same time,so less torsional vibration issues and a much shorter stiffer crankshaft .Nev

Nev I was here for 2 years before I called you out on your made up "facts". I then suffered your usual attacks when I dared question your opinion you presented as a fact. I don't try to cut you down to size, you cut yourself down to size with your made up facts and the inability to construct a sentence with correct grammar, spelling and punctuation. I only challenge your poor behaviour and spreading of misinformation, it is not an attack on EVERY aspect of you. You are doing a great job of building a reputation for spreading inaccurate opinions as fact and attacking anyone who disagrees with you. 1 1

facthunter Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Where are these Made up FACT you speak of?. Most of what I write is accepted Good Gen On Aircraft Nev (Called the resident leftie, amongst other derisive things.)
Thruster88 Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Before I moved to Cowra 10 years ago there was zero Thrusters within 50km radius, now there are 8 active flying Thrusters here. I promote them as simple cheap fun machines. They will not often be seen in public as they mostly live on farms. There is currently no viable 4 stroke 65hp engine available to replace the 582 2 stroke. It doesn't bother me that some people don't like and bag out 2 strokes. I have had zero issues over 42 years of operations with 2 strokes. 3
facthunter Posted 17 hours ago Posted 17 hours ago Who are you alleging is Bagging-out 2 strokes? It's certainly NOT me. I've also never had a failure with 2 strokes either because I know how to treat them, but a Lot of People just don't like them. It's accepted their Power to weight ratio is hard to Beat. I recall giving a Pre arranged Lecture to some Airline Pilots about the virtues of what AUF/RAAus has to offer and was booded and ridiculed, even while I was speaking. Rude Eh? for making the effort which I'd researched and was then an RAAus Instructor at Lethbridge. Oh well I tried, at least. But I stopped going to their Dinners. There WERE some good Guest Speakers though. Nev 1
FlyBoy1960 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago personally, I think you will find there are more 2 strokes out there flying than what you think there are. Most of these will be on larger properties, flying quite happily, none of them registered because they are just being used for large farm work. The simple numbers don't lie. If they sold 15,000 2 strokes in Australia for aviation over the past 40 years, then you would expect at least 5,000 the still be out there and usable. Let's say one third of these were on aircraft that are still in a flyable condition then you still have well over 1,000 trotting around Australia once or twice every year, some aircraft with hundreds of hours every year. Just because you can't see them out your front door doesn't mean they are not out there and operating unregistered, unlicensed and under no regulation. You can't say how many old cars are on farms and operating quite happily because you can't see them in the registration numbers! 1 1

I think the Briggs would be ok on part 103 aircraft I think the Briggs is rated at 27hp for the ~800cc motor, A Rotax 477 makes 40hp and is ~5kg lighter I will be looking at a Rotax Rick big bore when my 582 needs rebuilding 1
facthunter Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago Unreliable older cars are of little use on Farms because they have to be Maintained and Have little traction when the Place is wet. Quad Bikes have taken over as well, with the tractor with trailers as it always was. Planes need regular inspection more carefully performed than Many other things do. Nev

facthunter Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago (edited) What is Offensive about that?? I can't say anything here without being condemned. I did OWN a Vineyard for About 10 Years and Have a Nationally Acccredited Qualifications to Manage a Vineyard. I also Inherited a six cylinder Cortina with the farm that I Got running and the Kids used to tear around in the Mud for Fun. Unfortunately there's a lot of saliniity Involved with Irrigation and any cars used that way Rust out very quickly, and become worthless. I've also owned 3 Planes.
