I don't  think that was very Helpful.  Do you think "Sand-pit for seniors" is appropriate? Nev

Ha, ha ... I do actually (if a bit on the wry side).

But that apart, any follow-up ideas to kick around / examples to cite?

Your Logic for that statement,BrendAn?  You are making it up.   Where are all the Questions?. People may be a bit wary of venturing. Nev

Turbo stated that rpc holders did not do bak. I corrected him and you get all that out of it.

It's interesting that you didn't think to move on from that point scoring, post the BAK information and address the subject matter on how stalls are related to angle of attack, and what causes one of the most common killers in circuits.

I’m not interested in joining in your argument but I’m quite sure one of my test modules was on BAK in my recent RPC studies.

Apart from that, may I ask a question?

What is that nice wrinkly red circle that turned up today on my flight from Northam to Jandakot? I’ve never seen it before.

That's OzRunways' 'Real Time Glide Tool' working for you.  It gives a rough idea of your current glide range based on forecast winds below, your current height above ground, the lay of the land and the glide performance of your aircraft (entered in Settings).  The feature can be turned off/on in the Map View Options menu (double-cog in the right side menu).  It's a situational awareness thing, to be used with caution, of course.  But just to take the example pic you quoted above, at least you could see it's doubtful you'd make Taree airport (despite the handy tailwind) so you'd better start looking for a friendly field closer in. (The Westpac chopper won't be far away and there are friendly folks at Taree who can fix your bird.   ;- )

From OzRunways:

Real Time Glide Tool

The Real Time Glide Tool shows your glide range to ground level. It only activates when above 1,500 ft AGL and uses your current active Aircraft profile’s Glide TAS and Glide Ratio figures. If you have any issues, first check Settings → Aircraft to ensure the correct figures are entered. Real Time glide range corrects for wind by using the GPWT profile wind half way to the ground. For example if you are cruising at 14,000 ft AGL it adjusts your range based on the winds at 7,000 ft.

Warning

The winds used are based on forecast winds. Actual conditions may differ, so use with caution.
