  1. Some oil cooler were near round and soldered copper honeycomb, I doubt solder tanks or radiators are permitted today. Oil cooler ones would take more pressure and be more solidly Constructed. Water types for OIL avoid as they won't be expected to take the Higher Pressure. Other wise no issue. They are ALL heat exchangers. You can have LIQUID /LIQUID and GAS /Gas as well.
  2. R.Young, It was close to flying if my memory serves me correctly. I recall thinking the tail could be bigger. Nev
  3. EVERYTHING is. Look up Heat exchangers to see what's available. I've seen Chinese stuff that's superior to the others. Nev
  4. There was one at Lethbridge VIC. Nev
  5. You have got to keep them soft. (The Mitts or Gloves). Gloves by their nature cannot easily be insulated Frozen digits can't feel anything. Electric heating would be the go.. I recon. It wouldn't take much ergs either. Remember it's 2 C for every 1000 ft with the standard lapse rate. Nev
  6. Mitts can be better than Gloves, for cold. Nev
  7. You can repair some leaks with resin in the Matrix if you know what you are doing. Nev
  8. I'd use electric sox and gloves Some Motorcycles have heated Handlebars. Have a light weight draft proof flying suit with Wool under it . Fly Lower. Get in your car and put the heater on. Have a Bowl of hot soup. Run around the Block. Nev
  9. Looks Hard to get in and out of . I prefer Tandem. Good view for Both and you don't have to have an arm around the other, Like in a C-150. I'm Biased. I'm a bit of a Cub and Citabria man and can tolerate Austers. . Nev
  10. Getting near Impossible to get the FACTS on anything. Nev
  11. The "Culture" Of Boeing is skewed to Profit above all else. Probably Accountant driven Union Hating and establishing and sub contracting NEW companies where work conditions are a bit wild and primitive. I've never been Keen on the Dreamliner but it does have colossal range. There was never any secret among those watching what was going on about Boeings workplace Culture and cost cutting. The short Undercarriage limited the type of engines that could be fitted to the older 737's which already had rudder actuation Problems. causing fatalities . I chose to NEVER be endorsed on them.
  12. Boeing has always attacked Airbus Industries since they first went into Business as a Multi Nation Conglomerate. USA didn't allow Concorde a fair go either. Boeings SST with advanced metallurgy never went into Production . Above speed of sound Air Travel has a severe COST penalty and always will .Travel at even Mach .82 raises the OAT by over 30 deg C. THAT'S a LOT of energy Man, and it gets a LOT more above the speed of sound . Flight Planning gets a lot more critical and weather dependent. Nev
  13. I don't think the V tail solution is a roaring success. They were based on a Military Trainer I think. They tend to "fish tail" Nev
  14. Boeing did the same in the USA. Profit before everything. I don't know when TATA fully took over. Nev
  15. It's a fairly common problem. Some motor bikes (speedway) put the carby Bowls remotely mounted to reduce Vibration. . Nev
  16. Airbus appeared to be moving at the time they contacted and the other aircraft wing ran into the Tail as the plane turned left.. I feel it should have waited till Clearence was assured. Cutting it too fine. You can't play dodgems with stuff this big. It was the Job of the Boeing to avoid. The Other bloke could not do anything and the first thing they would notice is the whack when contact was made. Nev
  17. Theres a lot of high temp exhaust with Turbines . They are ALL Carnot Cycle and the efficiency is a result of high Combustion Temps and PRESSURES. I've NEVER seen any what you would call HIGH pressures in an aircraft jet engine and you only get IT at near PEAK REVS. Highest I've seen is an EPR of about 2.3. That's AXIAL flow . Multiple Stage, centrifugal ones could go higher but I know of NO examples. Turbines operated at Low Power and altitude have abysmal efficiency and non fan Turbines are a thing of the Past, in aircraft. Also like Many Turbo chargers they can quickly ruin your Hearing. Some LARGE Jet Aircraft engines HAVE been used in the ME to generate electricity but they sit on Lakes of OIL. They can be fired up and at full Power within Minutes. Pistons still remain the Most efficient Dinasaur derived Power Plant but their reliability Borders on Unacceptable some times.. Nev
  18. Working for an AERO club is VERY political. You are working for a large committee There's no room for that BS with a business .. A Flying Club is inevitably run by a PART-TIME Committee of Competing EGOS and Biases and as it's said "a Camel is a Horse designed by a committee". Most of us are aware of a Club being taken over by some group of Zealots who want to take in in one direction or another often as the result of some hidden benefit (Kickback). Many FAIL due internal conflict and inept management and getting behind with some requirements with the "Oh I THOUGHT YOU were handling THAT.. THEY follow a similar path as many Co- Ops and SHARED Aircraft arrangements. They can work but it has to be a tight ship and meet the deadlines. Nev
  19. Be careful of the weather Mid week. Nev
  20. Trump is way out of his depth He IS a CON MAN Cult leader and has very developed revenge instincts and gets his rocks off on POWER. He will only get Worse because HE has no inclination (or Need) to LEARN. Those who aren't wilfully blind have already SEEN enough. Companies know best how to run themselves and are responsible to their shareholders and Customers.. Centralised control is a dictator thing and usually a barrier to Profit. Nev
  21. Not IF Trump has any say in it. He's Drill baby, drill and Bye Bye to the EPA. Out of Paris agreement. EFF all of you. Nev
  22. NEW South Whales on show. Nev
  23. Very low empty wt. Single seat is limiting. Nev
  24. Not a serious contender. The Chinese are the ones that have pushed the concept most capably. GM's attitude to electric over a long time is well documented if you care to research it. (properly). I've got no axe to Grind. I was always claimed that "What is good for GM is GOOD for America" except when it went Bankrupt and was taken over by the Obama Gov't to save it that all went a bit quiet.. Embarrassing really. Boeing won't be allowed to fail either. It's too involved in the Military-Industrial Complex. Nev
