  1. That's a LOT of engines, and the unlucky owners won't be happy. Luckily mine's not on the list.
  2. I was involved as a mentor for the SAAA RV-12 multi-school build about three years ago. Malcolm led the Perth end of the effort as the organiser and lead mentor. I regularly worked with him and got to know him quite well. He was very experienced and knowledgeable and well known around the Serpentine and Jandakot builders and flyers. A sad loss.
  3. I believe it's an aircraft owned by someone I know. Hope I'm wrong, but even so it's bad news.
  4. No, it's just another day. Don't worry about it.
  5. I hope they had the patient strapped in.
  6. I don’t know about a simulator. I think maybe it could help with things like navigation training but flying is a three dimensional seat of the pants thing and you won’t get that sitting in front of a screen. One advantage of getting a licence first is it will give you time to look to look around and decide what type of plane you might want to build. You might change your initial ideas once you’ve done some flying.
  7. Marty is a builder. I assembled a kit.
  8. I'm not sure who you're asking. I think it's better to learn first and then build. Both absorb a lot of time, effort and money, but that's not to say you couldn't do both together if you have the time and resources.
  9. No, I got my PPL the day the first crate of plane parts was delivered. That was a good day. That's why I felt it important to keep flying because I didn't have many hours so I kept renting 152's and 172's. It's an expensive hobby!
  10. The build took me four years but I flew reasonably regularly during that time. I thought it was important to do both. I really enjoyed building too.
  11. I started my PPL at 59 and built a plane.
  12. That strong cabin structure is one of the best features of Jabs.
  13. They must have had a special on wheels at Bunnings that day. Saves having to figure out where to put the spare tyre anyway. Good thing they had the foresight to add a tail wheel as well.
  14. One of the best.
  15. Most of the bills I've had from them were for landings I never did.
