  1. Captain looks like a great day for me to stay inside and learn to read AREAFOR's :)

Below is what is predicted over your way. Looks like they reached into the BOM weather closet and said "Give 'em one of each today in Area 30", but maybe clearing a little later.

However these predictions give a much better idea of what is going to happen, even if you aren't going to fly, than the abbreviated garbage that is on the news when it is almost impossible to work out where the front actually is.

Sure looks like it is a good day to stay inside.

  3. ...yes she said...when the dog bites, when a bee stings and when I am feeling sad...I simply remember....

(Now who's being crude, Ian? Dog bites and bees stings etc brings back some highly suggestive memories. How did you know about those, as they were supposed to have been suppressed by Court Order. Oh well back to the story.)

............. I simply remember .... and always bear in mind, the difference between eroticism and kinkiness.

To tickle it with a feather is almost always erotic.

However if you use the entire chook, it is often classed as kinky.

Below is the Area weather around here today.

If that was a ride in a theme park I'd be the 1st to whack my money down, so have any of you ever flown an RAA aircraft in conditions like this?

And if so, ................. what's it like?

Or am I & others just being wimps not heading straight up to above 8000?

  5. Steve

    Peter's summary is spot on.

The 230 turned me on as I like the 120 knots TAS, the "feel" of the 6 cylinder engine + the ability to load it via the rear door.

The 170 or 160 or 230 are all good things and you can't lose whichever way you go. That's not a bad position to be in.

I went up to the Wide Bay Airshow last year and attended Jabiru's Back-to-the-Nest Dinner. I looked hard and spoke to lots of attendees & couldn't find an unhappy owner ..... particularly now that the carby kits have the fuel burn about where it should have been all along (see the discussion in another thread here).

    Hope that helps.

    Ray, the start of Ray-the-on.

Me, the nicest person in the world.

Far, a long long way to fly.

    So, ..... what?

La, the way Latte drinkers hold their wrists,

Tea, what you shouldn't drink just before a long flight.

    Do, .... it baby.

  7. a gyroscopic motor ideal on downhill runways.

"We'll make a fortune in New Guinea (or however it is spelt these days) except for the down-hill runways that run up-hill" thought planedriver.

"And what if I apply that engine to a gyrocopter?"

"I'll call it a gyroscopter or a scoptorcopter or a gyro gyro (which could be built in Wagga Wagga by worker workers and inspected by lame LAMES).

Now I've forgotten where I was going going (gone).

Any way, I think the story is cleansed to Ian's satisfaction, except for planedrivers suggestive mention of $5 per hour (which is more than I have ever had to pay) and which brings us back to ................

  8. Crudity

Guys, we are pushing the boundaries of being crude - let's get back to "funny" rather then "crudity"

...... in response to Ian's request/demand for no Crew-Ditty, Skipper ignored our fearless leader and related the one about the singular riverland girl who flew as copilot with Pete. (And why shouldn't the crew get a mention anyway, as they may still be voters, Ian, and may make the difference).

"Ian said that we have to get back to funny", so "Gee you have a fun-knee" said Pete. "Don't even think about it" she replied. "All this water sloshing around in Planedriver Inc's new product is making my bladder do conniptions, so "it" is out of the question, particularly up here at 5,280 ft (AGL).

So while the Planedriver Inc's new model, the "Clarktank 2000" was a technical success and flew very well, these aircraft never went very far due to slosh-based bladder induced landings, particularly for the older pilots of which there are a few.

You'd be much better designing ....................

  9. Brent

    It's a good post.

In my mind this deliberate act needs some form of censure that will meaningfully hurt the pilot and be a cause for consideration by others who are like minded.

Such a deliberate act is more worser in my opinion because a radio call to Albury (using your example) will almost always be handled with consideration and accommodation by the controllers once the circumstance is explained, and it doesn't always need to be dire as they will just try to help and accommodate any such request.

From the recreational movements point of view as a whole, I think we will all benefit if our members are "professional" in their flying and do not act like cowboys. Such a deliberate act by your hypothetical mate has potential to take rights away from all of us.

So your hypothetical pilot was a dickhead who deliberately broke the rules, compromised safety in controlled airspace, possibly putting RPT lives at risk, and has possibly brought the entire movement into disrepute.

If it was a hypothetical bloke I recommend castration.

    Hope this helps.

    Geoff

PS Can you just imagine the consequences to us all if one of our (RAA) aircraft was to bring down an RPT service under the circumstances that your post describes?

  10. CASA, however were not amused.....

....... as because things were going in reverse, CASA started to satisfy all of the needs of the aviation community in a friendly and efficient manner, without any personal vendettas or staff issues.

The oil companies weren't happy either as they were required to send all aircraft owners $1.99 for each litre of fuel that they did not use. "What are you doing sitting at home" said all of the Aviator's wives/husbands. "Start winding and get out there and fly more" as we need an extension on the house, just like the Baker's, & we need the money from those worthy & community minded corporate citizens at Shell/BP/Mobil.

So the whole world ran backwards& the Murray River filled up again just because of a little story written by a bloke in acuchE.

You're our hero etePgiB said all of the 20 year old virgins in the Riverland (so there weren't many of 'em) until the fit hit the shan just because of ..............................

  11. Ian

I could accept that finding if the sea and other conditions at the time meant that a can-do, high risk, mission-at-all-costs landing was needed on the Kanimbla on that day.

But from the video, the conditions didn't look overly poor except that the wind may have been at a bad angle. Based on what I observed, the chopper appeared to come in hot and low and it looked to me like the pilot either totally mucked it up or he was partly out of control due to a system failure somewhere.

I just don't accept that any experienced pilot would try what was tried on that video if he had full control and a 100% functioning aircraft around him.

    Just my $0.02 worth.

    Regards Geoff

  12. ............ Geeeeez thought Skipper. A free hat and J-shirt. I'll be in that.

And 63000 turns to do 2 circuits is a lot better than 63000 dollars in AvGas to do those same circuits. These chinese chappies are onto a good thing here.

And I know how to strengthen my right wrist to be ready for the winding, + it's an excuse I can use with mum, too.

However Skipper had a rubber band powered model when he was a kiddy and being a forceful kind of a nipper he always wound it up full tilt, until eventually the ****-end came through to the front (very quickly), and didn't leave much in between.

That wouldn't be good in real life (or this N.E.S), and then it dawned on him.

There is already a rubber band powered version of the J230.

It's a (wait-for-it .... wait-for-it) CTLW, so I'll just grab one of those and all will be well, except that ........................

  13. ....... the german Pope really does speak with an italian accent, cardinal Pell didn't mismanage the molestation scandal (perhaps there is a market for LittleBoySim or CelebacySim), that wasn't a latest model black 450SL Merc (V10Merc.or8SeriesBMWSim) that the cardinal rides around in (while asking his congregation to give up their hard earned (DonationSim)).............. and pigs might fly (PinkOinkerSim) ........... which brings us back to this flying caper where there are lots of ..............

............. so we'll have DimSim for those like me and for those who like Chinese food on their computer, KlimswimSim for those that want their kids to learn to swim at home without getting wet, BoardmemberSim for those that miss out at the election, and WhimSim for those that have a fanciful notion, however the idea of tollbooths automatically deducting your hard-earned no matter which way you pass by them, has already been patented, so we'll .................

  15. ........I know how to make a fortune thought planedriver. Lets fully develop BikeSim, then we'll add GirlSim for the boyz, BoySim for the girls, WhateverturnsyouonSim for the others, SimSim for the computerbuffs, JabSim for the Doctors and a separate version for the CT Owners, and for those that can't make the Fly-in to Hopetoun on August 3rd I'll develop HopeSim, + I have lots of other ideas in the pipeline (or in PipeSim as he calls it) including ......

  16. As an aside .................... as the weather has been unflyable around here recently I have just been for a little motorcycle run around NE NSW and did almost 3000 kms in 3 days thru snow, sleet and rain. While I have been away it is great to see that Peter now has some new friends and worthy adversaries with which to take the N.E.S. to greater heights.

And I just HAVE to comment that I am fascinated with Drifter Driver's concept of a Jabiru panel fitted with MS Flight Sim so the pilot can play with the simulator if he (or she) gets bored with flying. That is great and I bet Pete wishes he had thought of it.

So when you get bored with flying your Jab you fire up Flight Sim and fly the Jab that is in there. Then the next version of Flight Sim will show their J panel with Flight Sim installed and will show the simulated pilot in Flight Sim playing Flight Sim.

By about Flight Sim version 2027 they will have run out of Jabiru's to simulate and maybe, just maybe, it will go full circle and Pete's 160 will be actually flown by some Sim jockey who is being flown by Pete when he is bored with flying his and is using the Flight Sim to hone his skills.

Oh well, it is just a thought.

  17. (Me either BigPete)

........ if I can get this door idea to work, I can flick my flaps then I can also get rid of my rudder. That will also let me get rid of my pedals.

That will all reduce the aircraft weight by about 20 kgs and make it look individual/strange (cross out which is not applicable).

And so a new movement amongst J 160 owners resulted in flapless & rudderless aircraft all easily hitting 130 kts TAS/indicated (cross out which ever is not applicable), with the added benefit that the owners all had huge muscles from opening the doors at such a speed.

This made the owners irresistible to men/women (cross out which ever is not applicable) and .........

  18. (I didn't realise that this thread was so autobiographical Pete .... & I meant your last post, not this one)

........winds will be 250 at 40 knts with occasional severe turbulence below 5000 for the next few days, as Hewee's way of giving Peter some lead time to fix his flaps without looking pineingly skyward.

How will our intrepid switch mechanic (and I use the term loosely) get to Hopetoun when he has no hope-to-un couple his switch and switch it for a new switch.

"Oh. You wanted a switch change?" said the doctor as Ben woke up. "I thought you said sex-change".

So his only hope to reverse the change and switch the switch was to ...........................

  19. Can anyone tell me if the flap switch is a normal DPDT switch?

    Peter

Mine is not DPDT. Mine is more B-L-A-C-K-&-S-I-L-V-E-R.

I thought I had a photo of the back of mine all wired up, but couldn't find it on a 1st look so have attached a link to one of the front side which is sure to be no help at all.

    http://www.recreationalflying.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=3301&d=1191396877

However I believe that there is a copy of the wiring and connection instructions in the manual on the J website ..... or let me know and I'll email you a copy of that section of my Construction Manual for the 230.

Get it fixed by the Hopetoun Fly-in so that maybe we can finally say G'day.
