"It's what you do when you want to go somewhere in a taxi" said Maggot who'd lost time looking it up on the internet, as he always did. He always pushed in to others conversations too, usually slipping totally off the subject matter. "I've caught many taxis of course" he said proudly puffing his little chest and.....

STOP PRESS! FACTHUNTER EXPOSED!!!!!
Turbo never likes to dob in innocent forumites, but he'd been dragged along to the recent Melbourne Hot Rod Show, and after years of hearing about Facthunters skills at rebuilding extremel rare motor cycles like the 1837 Indian Scout, he was shocked to see this Facthunter entry for Best Car of The Show ........

That would be discrimination..............

That would be a good story for a local journalist.

You're not just risking it Zibi, I'd say you are out to do some damage.
The Motor Vehicle figures I quoted are permissible 7.5 metres from a residence.

I see the maximum noise recorded there is 75 dBAJust so people have a fair comparison, here are the drive-by noise limits for Motor Vehicles called up in Australian Design Rule 28/01 (all specified in dBA):
MB Passenger Car 80
MC Passenger Car 80
MD Light Bus 82
ME Heavy Bus 86
NA Light Truck 79
NB Medium Truck 86
MC Heavy Truck 87
Vehicles with these noise levels are permitted WITHOUT RESTRICTION in:
Residential Zones
Industrial Zones
Retail Zones
So firstly there is no foundation to any objection based on the noise levels recorded at this airfield.
Secondly, the dBA scale is exponential, that is 87 dBA is not 22% louder than 75 dBA, but SUBSTANTIALLY louder, or putting it in context, these aircraft are making a lot less noise than legal road traffic.

Very democratic Zibi, any pressure on your airfield?

...where a few years ago I caught Isaac and Loxie celebrating after a Natfly meeting, doing a Karioke.
Loxie was slimmer in those days and looked like he had a future as a choreographer.

As a side note, and because I couldn't attend but wanted to, it would be great to get some sort of online system for broadcasting these meetings, even the Temora one ,if there's money in the bank and the board can blow thousands on mail outs ( I thought it was in Feb to save money ?????) surely the money is there to setup a web cast !Just a thought , and after reading all the posts I'd be really be surprised if anything changes, I guess we will have to wait for election times,,,,,,,,,,you gonna run Maj Millard??? I reckon you'll get a vote or two!!!
He'd have to lose weight for a start.

Nothing is wrong, just dancing at shadows.

He is not out of mind even now, I can assure you, given some of the documents I'm reading.

If it was as simple as GA people changing the agenda this thread would have seen a healthy volume of noise; I'd suggest that if, overnight, all the pseudo GA type aircraft were removed from RAA, it would fold very quickly, simply because, as we've seen there's no market demand for grass roots flying any more.Hmmmm ........it should have been 'defections' from GA to RAA not 'deflections' above. Mind you 'deflections' almost works if you think in terms of the change in RAA values brought about by the influx of GA pilots.SteveWhy that is would probably be the more interesting discussion; that's what Companies do when one of the products in their mix begins to fail in the market place, and they often manage to identify the marketing weaknesses and fix them. In the case of grass roots flying, the only people interested in doing that would be the people engaged in it now, otherwise it's gone.
-
Rather unbelievably, if pilots were only just kept up to date with, and adopted actions for, how to quickly set up glide speed after an incident/shock, and the risk factors of low flying, the majority of people who have died in RA crashes in the last two years would be alive today. If the accident is caused by the pilot it is still a safety issue, even if the pilot has taken their own life, knowing that is what happened may save someone else from a similar fate. I have long felt not enough importance is put on practising glide approaches, if it became known that this is a cause of accidents (which I am sure it is) then steps could be taken to rectify the situation. I do not feel it is appropriate for people to try to dictate what we think about these things.-

That should have been ample warning of future legal problems for the Council UL, but they didn't see it your way. They actually took the flood zoning off, which removes impediments to building, earthworks etc.

20 posts and no one really wants to get involved in it.
The above of course is only a small sample, but a good indicator that there isn't a market demand for grass roots flying today any more than there's a market for Gottleib Daimler's machine replicas or Henry Ford's Quadricycle, even those these cars could be built for a song.
Under those circumstances its time to stop whining about 95.10 and move on into the activity of the present.

Nobody has said there are no jobs for life.
I know of many professionals with decades of service, including people under 40
That's a Y Gen excuse for poor performers. (I'm not applying that to everyone - many people need to move on because of politics or other genuine reasons)
Don't be conned into having to sit in front of someone looking for a job when you're 50 and having to present a 35 page CV.

There will be an official last light for the local area jamel.
It says around 8 pm and that could have come from anyone.
It is however sunset country up there with strong sunlight coming from the west late in the day, so direction will be a factor.

.....strict liability notice.
"Do you know what this is?" he asked
"Sure do" said the Major and pulled out a 357 Magnum, which he normally used to blow away plovers on a quiet day at the airport.
He wasn't waving it AT the little gold cross clad official, but has wasn't waving it away from him either.
"Isn't strict liability what you bait dingoes with?" asked Maj innocently.
"YES!" replied the gold crossed official, "but.................................."

Not correct UL.to add a litle more info, the land the airfield sits on can never be developed, as it is a floodplain, that floods quite a few times every year. it cannot be developed out, it can only be used as it is now, recreational airstrip/paddock for cattle and the occasional duck armada. there is no other reason to shut the place down other than to appease a very vocal small group of whingers. The land may well be flood prone, but as you might have noticed from the latest Queensland news Councils still issue building permits in flood prone areas.
In the south east of Melbourne around 150,000 people are living up to 6 metres below the known flood level of a large swamp.
However, when the area is ZONED flood prone, the Council has a legal impediment to issuing permits for dwellings, factories and retail buildings.
It appears from what the group is saying that Council has or is rezoning the land from 1(g) flood prone to RU1.
If that is the case, then the Council now has the opportunity to develop the land for residential and industrial use, and the airfield no longer has the protection of the "flood prone" zoning.
RU1 zoning allows a number of things which would be a DISADVANTAGE to the airfield; RU1 zoning in NSW allows:
Permitted without consent
Building identification signs, extensive agriculture, home occupations
Permitted with consent
Agricultural produce industries; agriculture; animal boarding or training establishments, business identification signs, dwelling houses, environmental protection works, extractive industries, farm buildings, forestry, intensive livestock agriculture, intensive plant agriculture, open cut mining, roadside stalls.
So there could be some substantial offensive smells, large buildings, large signs creating rotor effects - particularly if the zoning is used to build a bulky good precinct on te outskirts of town, and a lot of residents who will immediately start complaining about loss of amenity.
