In 76% of the electorate (114 Divisions), UAP didn't get above 4000 votes; If you or I nominated and campaigned as unknowns, we could expect to get more than 4000, so strike 1 for influence.
If his negativity had worked we would have expected to see a fall away in Labor and Liberal support, an expansion of Greens and independents like Derrin Hinch, and some UAP candidates at the top end elected.
Out of the 151 Divisions, 68 (45%) were won by over 20,000 votes. In total 111 (74%) were won by over 10,000 votes.
That looks like a very solid return to two party roots to me
If you then split that by the major parties:
ALP won 46 Divisions by more than 10,000 votes (30%) of the 151 total
LNP won 58 Divisions by more than 10,000 votes (38%)
That's a pretty impressive support for the two major parties, and the independents and Greens were almost wiped out.
From there we have some leaks from factions within the parties as to who "won" or who "cost us" the election, but this time round I wouldn't make a guess at what happened, even if I could read the results of the Party washup meetings where they had all the data. There were quite a few Candidates sacked, including past pre-poll, where votes were wasted, and a lot of mistakes with electoral strategy, but I think most made their mind up about poor old Clive after the 50th interruption to their TV programme.

There can be several generations of money- makers between the original developers who buy farmland, the next generation who buy it and subdivide it, then the builders who buy lots then the new residents who are not aware they are in a swamp or on a flood plain. There are hundreds of houses going up around Koo Wee Rup, houses all built on the ground, flood level plaque in the main street with the line at my shoulders.

So A Flood mitigation Dam does no good at all? IF you fill your tank THAT amount of water is then out of the equation and might as well have never fallen as rain as far as the normal river that drained the area is concerned. Urban areas don't retard as much water as the original wooded area did . Stormwater drains get water way quickly to SOMEWHERE ELSE. so downstream gets a rapid rising floodwater . To retain stormwater on the property, the basin needs to be 65% of the area of the hardstand (impervioujs house, sheds, concrete b y about 3 metres deep. No one in the urban area sets aside that much area as a retarding basin.
On the bigger scale, If you were designing an estate for 1100 houses, I would think you would calculate 100% of the estate area as receiving rainfall plus whatever the overland flow had been estimated to be from the nearby mountains. You might be as surprised as I was to find the developer calculation was 0.0355% of the estate area. With that little water spout there was no problem getting planning approval. In other words I'm talking a huge shortfall in retarding capacity rather than the mild situation you described.

No, power is a fundamental concept in physics: the rate at which work is done. A rocket engine produces power (but no torque), a jet engine produces power, a man walking up stairs produces power. Your calculations are just specialized examples to calculate the power of an internal combustion engine.
It takes power for a vehicle to climb a hill. You can calculate the power required, and it doesn't matter whether it comes from an internal combustion engine, a rocket engine, or 4 guys pushing the car.
1 horsepower = the power required to raise 75kg 1 metre in 1 second.
or if you prefer imperial
1 horsepower = the power required to raise 550lb 1 foot in 1 second.
The thread is about props so we can dispense with expanding the thesis.
Once you understand the relationship between Torque and horsepower you can get an understanding of what prop will suit the engine characteristic.
For Example:
You can nearly rule in or out a Wankel type rotary design on that basis alone, or
You will know why Douglas Bader crashed his Spitfire when he tried to take off in coarse pitch.
The first answer to the OP question is obtain the power, torque and fuel cirves of the engine.

I pulled the Divisional results for this year's Federal Election
Clive had enough primary votes to possibly sway the results in Bass and Chifley, and most of the other winnning margins were in the 20,000 + votes, so he'd have only been picking up scraps in preferences.
I'd say his influence on the election was close to nil.
He was bagging both of the major parties, I'd call his campaign Institutional Advertising, no real message, just Clive, Clive, Clive, Clive ad nauseum. He's a marketer so he's smart enough to know that wouldn't get any real political traction, but it would raise his profile.
In most seats his candidates received about 3000 votes, about what you and I would get if we nominated, then sat back and didn't campaign.
I don't know where his coal mine is, but if it's in Queensland it would think it would be a Labor government approving the permit.

The only thing I can imagine that would detract from its use, is that 9 times out of 10, the position where the clamp is required, is inaccessible, has limited room to manipulate any tool on the hose/pipe - and is usually on the underside of everything, entailing jacking up the equipment, or rolling in the dirt, to fit the clamp!
I have one of them sitting on my shadow board - been there for 20 years; I just buy new clamps.
I found it takes a lot of skill to use with anything other than stainless steel wire; a fraction of a turn this way and the wire snaps, a fraction of a turn that way and the hose blows off. You just get the skill perfected and either don't need it for 12 months by which time you've forgotten the touch and have to learn all over again, or you need to wind a different weight wire.
It has the access problems you mentioned.
However; I can see it being an excellent tool in a production line situation.

Got to your bathroom, turn the taps on in your basin, leaving the plug out. Notice that the basin is slowly filling, turn the taps off befor the basin overflows. A retarding basin takes time to fill rather than flowing the full stormwater force down the waterways, but it is only delaying the inevitable. When it's full the full stormwater force flows. It's one of the two most dangerous flood control methods in the world. In Melbourne there is a series of 22 basins coming down from the Dandenongs. If the top one overflows they go down like a pack of cards, and the people below are flooded out.

"Equal gearing" - referring to gearing shows you are talking about power. Equal gearing means equal RPM, and at equal RPM power scales linearly with torque.
Yes it does:
500 Nm x 2000 rpm/9549 = 104.7 kW
500 Nm x 4000 rpm/9549 = 209.4 kW, so 100% increase in rpm = 100% increase in power = linear progression
This is what I meant in my example:
500 Nm x 2000 rpm/9549 = 104.7 kW
600 Nm x 2000 rpm/9649 = 125.67 kW, so at equal gearing 2000 rpm the higher torque engined vehicle climbs the hill faster.
But a vehicle with LOWER torque can pass it by changing down a gear and revving hard
500 Nm x 2000 rpm/9549 = 104.7 kW
300 Nm x 4000 rpm/9549 = 125.67 kW

Well that's the retarding basin concept; another subject for a wet year.
The theory is each property holds the bulk of its runoff and lets it flow down over days rather than hours and the rivers and drains don't overcap.
To do that in Victoria you need a dam about 65% of the house/shed size; no one has that; abject fail onjce the wet seasons come.

Nev, I reckon you and I are on the same line of argument. We aren't really in conflict, it's just that I'm say that without torque, you have no horsepower, and you are saying that without horsepower no work can be done. I fully agree with that.

An engine has to produce torque before anything happens.
Power or horsepower is simply torque with a time element added in.
Your formula is correct for horsepower..
The metric fprmula is: P = Mn/9549
where:
P=kW
M=Nm
n=rpm
0549 - coefficient
So for an engine with 245 Nm torque:
At 1000 rpm it will produce 25.66 kW
At 5000 rpm it will produce 128.27 kW
In motor vehicles:
A vehicle with the highest torque will climb a hill fastest with equal gearing
A vehicle with a smaller engine with less torque can pass that vehicle by shifting down a gear and developing more power at faster rpm
Over 80 km/hr on a flat road at a constant speed, power is the biggest factor for pushing the wind out of the way (and goes up exponentially with speed.
So they interchange in importance depending on the job.

In fact this pointless mission was rather similar to the time the NSW Government decided to empty Sydneys sewage into the ocean outside the Heads.
