Turbo, I've read an article discussing how the Japanese economy recovered and prospered so well, and so rapidly, after being almost totally destroyed during WW2.
The article outlined how the Japanese economic recovery after WW2 was greatly assisted by the low numbers of Japanese lawyers, and the Japanese cultural tradition, that suing other Japanese for substantial compensation after accidents, was unacceptable, as it was detrimental to the economy, and to Japanese society as a whole.
But the "American Disease" of suing anyone you can, for whatever pathetic reason you can dredge up, has invaded Japan in recent years, and the older Japanese are apparently appalled by the trend.
A good story, but the snail in the bottle case was 1932.
The Japanese legal system, and even their way of thinking is quite different to ours. They are very obedient and will do what a sign says to do. Through sheer numbers they have learnt that walking on the left of footpaths is faster, when a line of cars takes off from the lights the whole line starts at once, so a MUCH faster start, but in crowded cities they will only accelerate to about 30 so speeds are sedate. At night, when they stop behine the car in front, they turn off their headlights. If they owe you money they pay it back. At times I wonder how they ever got inot the war. But they don't have an immigration programme, they try to keep their bloodline clear.

He determined he would never again be ripped off by people with "intellectual skills", and ended up teaching himself to read and write, and finished up as an industrial chemist for a coal-tar manufacturing company.
So that’s where the Academics come from.

Before the Magna Carta my family owned a village of 600 people. After heretical talk like that they might have sent you off to fight in the crusades for a few years, sold your daughters or put you on pig feeding for the summer.

Aren't we so lucky then to have the "legals" eventually having all the say on POLICY?. I would rather have people who are properly knowledgeable and understanding of OUR needs. Everyone knows this current CASA is only interested in self regulated Airlines and giving the rest a hard time. When they do the right thing, I will be among the first to come out and say so and give them credit. The whole structure of the ACT they work under is wrong for "small aviation". More and more impediments and rule changes only harm the "Show". Accidents still happen. Less people at any head office really know the ropes or what's going on "out there". Nev
Every large company has its legals. They don't make policy, they just oversee the potential risk, and if it's too great the people go back and come up with a better solution. Even the TV networks watch everything. I was with a News crew once, and we'd been standing around all day waiting for something to happen and I'd talked extensively with the News Reporter so she knew the fine details of the case and we'd been cracking jokes all day. When the something happened the camera started rolling and she walked towards me and asked "What are your thoughts right now?" I said "The Premier and Minister for Transport are a pair of axxxoles!" She laughed and said "I don't think Legal are going to let that one get through, so we did several different takes and one of them made the News.
I just explained before that the people who make the policies do have an understanding of our needs, and by the way of our bad habits. One of them was a very good RA instructor who trained other instructors - so the front troops aren't just chair warmers.
People in head offices never really come to grips with the way things have to be done in the field. For the past 40 years I've seen national transport companies dump vertical integration for that very reason, and go for horizontal/State/Regional management centres, and that quickly collapses because the company becomes six little companies each going their own way and the economies of scale are lost, and there's an announcement one Friday that 350 have been fired and they're going back to vertical integration, then ten years later they go horizontal again. Very few manage to get it exactly right.
Just remember that Dr Clyde Fenton, who set up his flying doctor operation at Batchelor in the NT was saying exactly the same thing about DCA as you're saying today.

Maximum stall speed and 2 Pax resolves most of that.
You want heavier, then it's going to be slower as you'll need more wing to meet the stall limit.
The problem there is they want faster cruise speeds and greater range and more equipment i.e. they want GA class aircraft with RA rules and Ra medical.

The issue was changing/reversing direction/policy without warning AFTER starting a process.. They promoted the 762 Kgs then when a new CEO entered the scene ex RAAF and ex Qantas and Cathay management he couldn't get his head around what RAAUS was about and was "unhelpful" to say the least. People building their own aircraft from uncertified parts/ materials NO WAY . That sort of thing was too far from the world he came from. Nev
A couple of things;
1. That CEO has come and gone.
2. Whoever promoted 762 kg may not have understood the complex ramifications.
Back around 2008 I was told by an insider that CASA wanted us to take over all private GA.
These are the type of things you will hear in large companies, local government, anywhere there's a coffe machine and a willing audience.
As you know, CASA's SAAO officials for RA are switched on people, and while there are certainly various opinions expressed about them by some quarters, know how to throw a recreational aircraft around, know how to service them and know, quite intimately just about every rule flouting villain around.
To think these people are just sitting around quiet and relaxing while the DAS of the day yawns, gets out of bed and thinks "What can I do today; I know, I'll increase RA MTOW to 762 kg, or I have to fix what the last DAS did so I'll squash that 762 kg, is fanciful.
In fact the SAAO department isn't the only filter either. Once they decide on something there is a very capable legal team there, with your deep pockets waiting to strike out anything which would expose the government to additional risk.
-
That would seem like a counter productive attitude. But then again Im sure theyre not the first orginisation to be so.
It's a LOT more complex than that.
Have a look and the previous threads and you'll pick it up.
Just a few of the issues are:
There are some overweight RA pilot/owners who want to carry a passenger plus fuel, in some cases full fuel.
There are some GA pilots who want to move to RA because they can no longer pass a Class 2 medical.
There are some people who want to fly Quasi GA aircraft cross-country, so begger engines, bigger aircraft within the RA MTOW, and they would like to add more structural strength.
There are some with older GA aircraft who want to get out of paying a LAME to maintain the aircraft.
In some cases the pilot/owner could simply buy hire a suitable 4 pax GA aircraft and fly long distance cross country with two up, full fuel and full baggage, but they are not capable of passing a Class 2 medical, or don't want to go through the expense of a PPL licence course and pay for LAME maintenance.
And so on; a mix of grass is greener over the fence.
Ultimately CASA have to sift through all of that but ensure there is no degradation of safety, so I've very convenient to blame them.
Usually when the discussion comes up it's being pushed by one of these agendas.

Another report describes the aircraft as a yellow mustering plane.

Trike wings are very strong - I can only think of a couple of reasons why they might fail:
1. base bar pin/bolt not secured properly
2. damaged leading edge tube (spar) or cross bar
3. exceeding pitch limits resulting in a tumble - no indication of tumble by witness
4. failure of side wires (unlikely as these are duplicated in all certified trike wings I'm aware of
Given the report of the SIGMET, how would a trike go in severe turbulence in terms of handling and structural integrity?

Can anyone confirm
(a) Paterson Rd, Woodville is within the VFR Lane (looks like it is on the maps I looked at.?
(b) A SIGMET for severe turbulence was active at the time (Sat 30/11) about 12:00?

You'll just have to step in and finance it FT.

This conversation has really drifted....
The lane issue should to be moved to it's own heading elsewhere in the forum, and kept alive because it is important.
The aircraft came down near Paterson Lane, Woodville which looks very close to the lane, so the lane issue should stay in until that is verified.
Also the weather forecast at the time.

No idea other than its a CV carburettor. Probably Mikuni. The float tang isn't adjustable
Did a lot of work with Mikuni concentric but no experience on CV, sorry.

I've got a motorcycle that wears out main jets by flogging the chrome off the needle in one spot. I'm on my third set now. They are cheap and easy to replace.
the symptoms I see is a marginally increased consumption but it runs like a goat at mid throttle and runs super rough at carpark speeds
What carbies?
-
Get Bing workshop manual or download pages.
You need to know what part of the carby is responsible for what phase - idle, increasing power, WOT
Then you know what to focus on and it makes thing much easier.

Nearest is probably Bankstown- busier than I fancy. Camden less so but ideal would be Coffs Harbour, especially as my daughter lives there. Gets me the training but not the endorsement. That’s still mouldering in the pipeline.
as usual, Australia lags behind NZ and the USA and why? . . . a four letter acronym.
I would suggest you do it at Bankstown; you need to be put under pressure to make the key locations and hopefully get an unexpected diversion to another point to make way for a medivac aircraft etc so you understand the importance of being on the ball and razor sharp at identifying where you are and where you need to be and when and why.

We’ve been waiting many years for CASA to give us access to a CTA endorsement. Very happy to be properly equipped and do the training and take the test. Just one barnacle here . . . slow CASA bureaucrats. The promise that the RPL and RPC are equivalents has never been delivered. I suspect malice against RPC by the old hands at CASA.
Pick a Recreational Aviation school which operates out of CTA and talk to the Instructor. He'll tell you what to do including the aircraft equipment. PPL and PC students are flying in CTA before they do their first solo. It's not a them and us thing.

It beggars belief that little aeroplanes are forced to fly over dodgy country when safer airspace nearby may not be in use.
The emphasis being on "may", but how do you know? If someone put a Virtual sign up where you were going when they were using it that might work, but at any time you could be facing a commercial flight, whether corporate jet or RPT aircraft, flying a holding pattern within its allocated box. And like us all, its pilot could be preoccupied and straying slightly out of his boundary. Take a look on the ATSB at Airprox incidents and Incursions, and you'll see why the space has to be reserved. Update your training and fit the required equipment/specification, and problem fixed.

But don't get too upset about the activity on site. I just had a look at a USA motorcycle site I am a member of. There haven't been any new posts in the section I follow since 28 November.
That prompted me to check the the Corvette forum at corvette.com.
496 posts showing "today" before the counter software comes to an end.
Threads like:
911 4S vs C8,
Would you trade your C7 to C8 if performance was the same as C7,
A 1,000 hp Corvette,
Dubai Corvette Ambulance (Photo Source: corvette.com),
So plenty of action there with the site layout they have.
If you have, say a C5 or C7 Corvette, with 1 click you can identify all posts for that model. Very handy if you're looking for a how to, or how far an assembly comes apart, or how to get your plugs out of an aluminium head.

That appeared to be the end of that, but Turbo also knew of a sub at Holbrook, had been inside it, and read some of the POH (averef) in the excellent museum nearby. Coulf they tow it, all the way to.......
Note to NES readers: Turbo acknowledges that he is wrong around 50% of the time (90% at home), but also that based on the Captain's sorry record it might SEEM that he's never wrong, and the Remark incident he is trying to blow up was merely offering a helpful alternative point. Cptain also had an opportunity to offer his view on that thread but all Turbao could get out of him was a burp from an excess of Bombay Gin (not the weak Mumbai stuff).
As an example of the Captain's constant wrongness, he decided to buy a dog, and asked the Pet Shop Manager how to train it. "put it on a lead" said the Manager so he took it to a park, tied it to a tree, sat down on a bench for an hour with a bottle of gin, and kept saying "Here Rupert", "Here Rupert", but it never came, so he took it back to the shop, complained it was untrainable, and tried to get his money back for both the dog and the gin.

RAAus bid to increase MTOW weight allowance

Because we have done this to death over and over again; the answers are all back in the previous threads, the logic has been presented, but from time to time someone will come out squawking for the same things.
