  1. It is part of we need more resources for fire fighting. I believe they are getting an AWIS also.

  4. Don’t proper engines have ECUs ?
  5. What ? Are you building a fleet ?
  6. Odd thing is that this 100mph limt was in place a while ago (18 months?) then Starlink upped it and introduced the mini. A lot of GA users started using Starlink. In March 26 they put the Roam plans back to 100mph max. A few people have suggested that this is based on drones using Starlink in the middle east. Starlink can disable services based on their location so this reason is probably not why we currently have this speed based restriction. Nobody is quite sure what Elons strategy is.
  7. A standard Starlink Roam plan gives you 100GB up to 100mph and is AU$80 a month.
  8. I believe it is all Starlinks and internationally. You cannot go over 100mph (87kt) unless you buy an aviation plan. The cheapest aviation plan (up to 300mph) is US$250 and 20GB per month.
  9. While some incidents are undoubtedly due to a lower build/configuration quality it seems we are also looking at a number of low hour pilots unfamilar with a new aircraft.
  10. A bit of clarification; Camden circuit height is 1300 ft MSL The Oaks circuit height is 1900. My understanding is that the Cessna climbed into the Jabiru in The Oaks circuit. A bit hard to explain as the Jab pilot and Cessna instructor had both flown in this area many times.
  11. Jabiru was in the circuit at The Oaks for landing and Cessna was departing upwind from Camden.
  12. Sort of. Really it is shuffling the deckchairs and I do not see it making much difference.
  13. It is almost certainly there somewhere but it is a very big and very deep area. While I understand the strong emotion pushing for the search to continue there seems very little logical point in spending more millions of dollars for what, at best, will be partial body recovery.
  14. I am confused why this ducting is required. I would have thought you already have ducting from the outside air to the airbox and airbox to carb. What are you hoping to achieve. Can this be achieved by modifying the existing ducting ?
  15. I think he said earlier that he had a handheld GPS witth airfield waypoints. So not exactly no backup.
  16. Or a backup iPad 🙂
  17. Often there is more space on the right so I see a few people mounting it there. But it is further away and you will spend more time looking at it to pull information from the display. I would mount it on the left of the Sportstar panel with a RAM ball base about half way up the panel. Before drilling any holes I woud get the complete mount and see where this puts your iPad screen I would get a mount with a moveable arm so you can change the angle of the screen as the sun angle changes. For my iPad mini 6 I am using a RAM-HOL-TAB12U which is a spring loaded cradle. I believe it works with most iPad minis and also allows for a case on the mini. I have the medium 3 inch arm (RAM-B-201U). You can use the longer 5 inch arm (RAM-B-201U-C) but you get more vibration. I have a twist lock suction cup base (RAM-B-224-1U) but if I had my own plane I would use a bolt on ball base (RAM-B-202U). With RAM parts it is cheaper to buy the complete cradle, arm, base together. For the cradle, arm and suction base above this is RAM-B-166-TAB12U. This combined part is about AU$135. For the cradle, arm and ball base this is RAM-B-101-TAB12U probably slightly cheaper. On the school plane they had the same cradle mounted horizontally. A bought one of the ebay shades (similar to this but a different brand) - https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/357758936274?var=626276098411 - $20-ish. You want the L168 for the iPad mini. I cut down the shade to 55mm above the screen/sides and tidied it up with black electrical tape along the edge. I am planning to mount the suction cup on the left window with the iPad oriented vertically. Just waiting for the shade above. Planning to cut down the shade on the top and left side to 55mm with the bottom cut down to just above the rubber attachment say 15-ish mm.
  18. WA is a problem for all skillsets. Yes, companies could train people up but within a year you know anybody with a skillset is going to the mining industry for double the money. Not sure how any non-mining company could compete without putting up their prices (a lot).

  20. I wouldn't. Third party MOSFET based reg/recs have been around for motorcycles for 15-ish years and have a very good rep. Ducati reg/recs never had a good reputation in the mc scene so I am surprised that Rotax ever used them. It is part of a system with a difficult to replace stator (alternator). Lets wait for Skippys feedback as he has been running a CAR5115 for a few hours now.
  21. Is this the one - https://www.vectriqparts.com.au/product/rotax-voltage-regulator-carr5115/ Skippy ?
  22. I thought the go to was a MOSFET based reg/rec ?
  23. Typically there will be an unusable amount of fuel in your tanks at level flight. Sling say this is 2 litres each tank for the TSI. Has anybody worked out what this unusable fuel is at a 30 degree bank for their plane ? Obviously going to be less more UNusable on the inside wing tank.
  24. That is pretty disappointing 18-20 amps for a 912 ULS. But still should probably be 'enough'. Do you have an ammeter ? What is it putting out in flight ? Note max output is at 5,000 rpm. Normally we cruise cross country at 5,200. You probably do not want to be puttering around in the circuit at 4,500 with a low battery. The 912Is comes with 2 alternators; 16A for the engine and 30A for the avionics/battery charging.
