  1. your xair may be a 450 kg , flyboy is saying the 490 has a thicker trailing edge. did you still need a poh. i can get office works to copy mine , its no problem.
  2. had the same and had to remove it and put the new lower limit on.
  3. great info, thanks. my first 2 xairs were 544 and the new one is 490, thats because the builders of the first 2 put 544 on the papaerwork. both those planes have been downgraded to 450 and 490 . i actually agree with raaus in a way, i don't think the builder of a kit should decide the mtow, it should come from the manufacturer.
  4. thanks for the photo. great idea. i have read your old posts about flying to cameron corner . what a fantastic trip .
  5. It's all changed. Flyboys is quoting out of date info. U have been through this 3 times now. 544 kg was the maximum a homebuilder could have in raaus. The factory says 490 is the maximum so raaus are dropping the mtow each time an xair gets transferred. The 450 is the British mtow. I don't know why they used that for some.
  6. Jared is the one who changed it. But he would have been directed from above
  7. screenshots for people that don't have Facebook

  8. How did you Increase your fuel capacity. I would love to do that. The 618 likes plenty of fuel.
  9. 2 of my xairs started as 544kg and were for years . Then when ownership transfer was applied for the 544 got cancelled. But to give me a 50 kg increase because I threatened to cancel my membership just shows what a flawed system it is.
  10. I want to carry a passenger and 450 doesn't allow that. But like you say. No one is going to check it anyway.
  11. That's exactly what they do. They tried to drop mine from 544 to 450. I said don't go any further with it and cancel my membership. Next minute I get a call offering to make it 490. Absolute rubbish. It's all because casa are looking at everything they do I think.
  12. I would not remove the fastback. It would be ugly with the fuel tanks and battery hanging out in the open. Also the luggage compartment would not be useable.
  13. Mine is 490. My first 2 were 544
  14. it will get signed off with no drama. A lot of them are registered as 544 and raaus have decided not to allow it any more.
  15. When is the maiden flight . climb at 50 knts And don't drop under 45 landing. Greatest fun you can have for the money. Extremely forgiving of learners like me. Rotates around 40 knts.
  16. There is a bloke on here but I forget his name. He made new batten ends with a 48 mm holesaw and Teflon sheet. That gives the correct radius. The factory ends are too small and pop out all the time. I do mine a different way. I give them a squirt of kiwi grip . No more trouble. I don't plan on removing them so it works for me.
  17. why not a flight suit. you can look like maverick when you exit the sonex
  18. Dreamliner also has powerful generators
  19. The star lifter must have a fairly high rating the way they throw them around.
  20. I looked up the c130 , it has a max payload 2.5 g so even less than your 3 g.
  21. I thought all Hercules would have started life as military aircraft.
  22. Brendan There's Plenty of ways a wing can come off a Fire Bomber. Pulling excess "G" is the Most Likely. Nev. Everyone knows that. I merely passed on something I heard on a story about a herc losing its wings. The ad may have been for fatigue inspections or possibly strengthening an area of the main spa. I don't remember but will try to find the article . It was a pretty dramatic video.
