I use all Saitek products (cause the Clear Prop shop has them
):Saitek Yoke and Throttle Quadrant
Saitek Rudder Pedals
Saitek Cyborg Evo Force Feedback Joystick
Saitek Cyborg Keyboard
Saitek GM3200 Mouse
I use to have the CH pedals and yoke as well
The only thing with pedals is that you need to make sure they stay still - I have 4 nails driven into the floor around the sides of the pedals (not through them) to hold them still - it is worse on a bare wooden floor
The rudder control assignments have been removed from the joystick in flight sim so they don't react against the pedals
The brake assignments have been altered in flight sim for the pedals - a common problem with saitek pedals is that the brakes are always on unless you just simply change the assignment once and then no problems - it is in their FAQ
The yoke comes with a little white board box on top of it for writing ATC commands on and soon they will be releasing an enhancement box as an optional extra that displays the current state of your trim, flaps etc.
One thing that I haven't installed however I do have one currently in stock in Clear Prop is the Saitek X52 Flight Control System (http://www.saitek.com/uk/prod/x52.htm) - not sure how these go but I guess it would be great for stick aircraft flying.
If anyone in Melb wants to have a go on my flight sim with 3 monitors installed then please just let me know and you can come over.

Me, well what ahlocks says and in simple terms:
1. Speak to the person concerned in a nice way with the rule book and say for the betterment of our industry
2. If it still keeps happening then I feel you don't have any alternative but to report it to the RAAus Ops Mgr.
It is better to wear nappies then to hear about a funeral - in my opinion!

Hi All
I am after a couple of people who would like to take over the organising of the flyins
I would like to have a Recreational Flying Flyin at Echuca seeing the last one got rained out. There isn't that much to do:
1. Approach the club and see if they want to have one
2. Set a date
3. Organise with the club any catering
4. Organise any special guests etc
That is all. It can be just a low key affair with a simply flyin and a barby dinner put on by the club - that is very simple to organise. Or you could if you feel that you want to make it a special event and have a special presentation by a Roulette or some other special aviator as an example.
It is up to you how much time you want to put in and a simple event would only take a couple of hours of your time.
So how about it - stand up and say "I will help do it" - it will be great to get as many forum members together in one place, look at aircraft, tell tall stories etc.
Please!

Those that were lucky enough to attend the flyin at Hopetoun a few weeks ago that bendorn had organised had the opportunity to use my Flightsim there. It has both of ORBX's Blue and Gold sceneries installed and the comments everyone were making was look at that scenery.
I am just getting back into simming and with this new powerful PC that I have it is incredible - now I am going to have to get YMML to see what it is really like flying a Jabiru around Melbourne airport - not likely going to be able to do it for real so this is the next best thing.
-
Now that is interesting! Now is this a coincidence, or a result of my comment below regarding my 24-5555 registration number??:Today I got a call on my mobile phone from a staffer at the RA-AUS office.. It went something like this - 'Sorry to call you like this, but one of our Board members has asked me to phone you to see if you would be prepared give up your registration number'...I was a bit taken aback, and working with colleagues at the time, so all I said was something like - 'No, why would I want to do that? I have good reason to want that number, which is why I asked for it in the first place'.
She replied - 'Oh ok, I was just asked to ask you..'
So, what's with that?!!
Are 'they' worried that they will get a flood of requests for special numbers?
Or did this Board member decide that my rego number would be cool on their aircraft?
Do we have to be extra careful what we declare in these forums?
Will they now write me a letter recalling my rego number?!
Watch this space...

Firstly Bushpilot, you have nothing to worry about...that is the number that is with that aircraft and nothing can change that!
Now if I was to call myself the "Shadow" minister board member for Vic I would say that I have been advised on a previous occasion that I could not transfer the number from my first CT to my new one that I had ordered at the time and reregister my first CT with new numbers - I was told that it wasn't allowed yet here we have a Board member doing the same

-
-
Ok, fixed the problem at the start of this thread but some how the emails going out are not picking up the member's name or site address
-
My first thought - you can imagine my face again when the hosting company said the last db backup they did was 1.5 weeks ago - not impressed, they are suppose to be daily backups

I develop and test everything for this site in another area that I call our pre-production site. But yesterday morning when I was developing some code that would include some further interoperability between the site and a new feature I was unbeknown to me working in the actual live site. It all went pear shape which happens often and I just set up a new test environment but you could imagine my face when I looked in the address bar and saw it was this site - the live site.
Anyway the end result is that there is a lot of the functional areas of the database that have become corrupted but NOT YOUR DATA!!!
All the site's basic data is in tact as you can see by the forums still containing your posts etc but things like cache's are all up the creed, code that makes things work better has run off and joined the foreign legion (I say that as I look at the smilies that are not in their correct position when typing a new post out
) and other things. So please accept my apologies but be rest assured that I am working on it and I think now that I may have to create a completely new site and database and painstakingly migrate the data across. This will ensure a completely clean environment otherwise I could be chasing spot fires all over the place. - thanks!

Give Avionics 2000 a ring http://www.avionics2000.com.au/default.htmI used the details on the Garmin site - http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/au/home/support/support/supportcontact/They give a phone number - 1800 235822 - and an email address - [email protected]The guy I spoke to the first time was quite helpful and forthcoming with information (although I think he thought I had the 296 not the 295 so the info he gave me was wrong) but subsequent attempts at contacting them and solving the problem were fruitless.
In the end it felt as though they wanted to delete the user routes for me and slug me a service charge. I have written to Garmin in the US to tell them about my experience.
-
Airsick, who wwere the Garmin people you contacted?Well it appears that Garmin in Australia does not want to help. I spoke to them the other day and they gave me a reset code that didn't work. I called them back (and after being on hold for about 15 minutes) they informed me that the code I was given was for the 296 and that I should send in the unit for assessment. I asked if I could try to reset the unit with the correct code and they wouldn't give it to me. When I asked why it was offered in the first place they said it shouldn't have been. They have been unresponsive to support request via email as well. I think Garmin has contracted someone to do their support and, in my opinion, they chose badly.I lashed out and updated the aviation database too as I had read somewhere that if it gets corrupted the unit may freeze up. After updating still no luck but I was getting repeated errors stating that a waypoint had been changed or deleted each time the unit powered up. I expected this after the first power up (after all, that's why you update the database!) but on every subsequent startup? This got me a bit suss. The only thing I could think of was that the saved routes were referring to a deleted waypoint and possibly corrupt waypoint and triggering the start up warning. This could also be causing the power off problem. I deleted all the saved routes and it seems to have rectified the problem. I haven't flown with it yet but will give it a go on the weekend.
So, in short - if any one is experiencing similar issues then try deleting your saved routes and updating the aviation database.

Recreational Flying should have a stand as a centralised meeting place for forum members, tea, coffee, shade, fridge etc again next yearIt may be easier to ask who isn't going next year.
-
Well, not a joke but I am back in Melb after spending the day in "lovely" Canberra - had my interview with CASA at 10am so everything was go

Unfortunately I have to stay out of this due to a conflict of interest as that school also runs a pilot supplies shop out of Coolangatta, advertise extensively in our Mag, runs around in a bus and sells things at high prices at Narromine along with a microlight aircraft range but as I said a conflict of interest ;) however can I suggest that if you feel strongly about this that you can always ring your local board member and discuss it with him - just a thought.Ok.. Just to put some prospective to this... I now have a count of 6 people who have been in touch with me, or I have been told of and confirmed - who have the same experiences without mentioning a school - except that it is in redcliffe and a pilot accessories business is also run from the school location...even that is more information than I have actually put into one of my prvious posts.
So who governs RA AUS schools ? seems there is a common theme....
So unless someone is actually governing these types of "business" activites I guess..

If Ian gets elected will that change anything ? Ian ????
I just wonder - is it a conflict of interest as I don't personally gain anything from the Clear Prop shop hence why I am now having to go back to work in the corporate sector for a while to build the savings back up?

- Geez ya good Mike
-
Peter, good page graphically.
You could also use the weather page on the forums here and just insert the airfield name or its ID or any lat/long and click the button. The first light and last light is shown as per Airservices calculations

Yes I am all for it but we need to be careful of liable situations and one persons thoughts on whether a comment is liable or not can be different to another persons.Just curious. Why is it that if I train with instructor x and have a great experience then I am happy to recommend him/her but when I have a bad experience all I do is relate the story but not the names? If I named them others in here wouldn't have to suffer like me so essentially by not naming him all I am doing is promoting this ongoing suffering. It is alright if you name someone when relating your experiences. If you say something like "I trained with Bob from Dunce Flying Inc. He charged me $800 up front and I didn't get a minute in the air. I think I was ripped off.", then you are relating your experiences to others and expressing an opinion. This is fine and helpful to others. If you say, "Bob is a knob and is blatantly taking people for a ride.", then this is not so appropriate.I would be interested to know who this operator that you weren't happy with really is.
It is getting closer to the line that I personally wouldn't like to see tested though. It all comes down to the absolute exact words that are used in the post that will determine on what side of the line it is on.
I would very much love to see rogue operators tarred and feathered and hung out to dry but then proof is needed and we all know the courts say that a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
Just my thoughts
-
Now this is ironic - I have to be in Canberra tomorrow for a job interview with CASA at 10am - and I am not joking

Please note I have just spoken to lithbattboss who is the distributor for these batteries and we both believe that these batteries would be a great addition to and be available cheaper then the Recommended Retail price through the Clear Prop shop very soon.
Remember that all proceeds (the little that is made) from the shop go directly towards paying all the costs in keeping these forums free for everyone.
