Thank you everyone for your comments in regards to moderation.
I personally would like to say thanks to TOSGCentral for bringing this up and providing a suggested and very constructive course of action.
All the posts excluding the first one in this thread have now been hidden and the thread closed whilst a solution is pondered on.
This is very important as this is the way how just a few loud mouthed people caused the entire RAAus chat service to be closed down - a few make it so bad for the many. This site was built on hard moderation or should I say effective moderation and despite a few saying that is wrong the site has experienced incredible growth by providing a great service to the many and not just a few and that is even against some peoples wishes.
We have hit a point in the site's life, like other times, where we must consider what the future direction of this site will be and whilst it may not please all, it WILL please those that do value and appreciate this site as being a great source of helpful information in keeping us safer and more informed and a place of learning. If that causes the loss of some forum members then so be it - we want more people to feel that this is their home, a friendly home, the true home of recreational flying, pilots and enthusiasts and not a means for people to stand on a soap box.
The entire site moderation will be decided on soon - thank you!

Personally I find MS Flight Sim a great help. Before I started flying for real I used the flight sim a lot and when I started lessons my instructor was always telling me to look outside more so yes, the flight sim does tend to make you watch the instruments more.
This is good in one way as it got me use to flying by instruments if I ever needed to through an emergency but bad in that I wasn't flying real VFR.
I now use the sim a different way when flying VFR in it - I have set up a view where I see the horizon and only have my alt and asi displayed at the bottom of the screen. The alt helps me to learn to keep the outside view right to fly straight and level and the asi for when I am coming in on final to relate the view movement and speed.
Every now and then I will add the ah and tc to fly in cloud to keep my skill present on flying by the ah when I have no basic external visability.
NOTE - this is just for fun and I would be interested to hear if anyone feels this is detrimental to my real world flying.

Bilby, I can't say for Jabs but the Rotax has Bing carbies and I presume a Rotax fuel pump and late last year there was an AD out on the fuel pump of the Rotax. My CT was affected and I got caught out with it using over 40 litres an hour with the crook pump. The fuel was just pumping out of one of the carbies
Not sure if there could be any realationship but it may be a place to start looking - the fuel pump - just a guess though and as I said I don't know anything about jab engines.

You may be interested Airsick that we will soon have a Bi-Weekly Newspaper and Monthly Magazine right here which will be in conjunction with a group of others but I can't say who they are at the moment. I have done some great deals for us all here to get exclusive rights to aviation articles, stories, news and much more.
A separate Pty Ltd company has already been set up for it and names have been registered plus domain names secured. The only thing at the moment is time - available time to start it going as I am so busy with getting v4 of the site done first.
Stay tuned for this...crikey, there is so much happening here and so much more coming up for everyone right here at Recreational Flying

I was shocked yesterday

Pink Floyd and Roger Waters (solo) are the only music I listen to. When Waters came to Melbourne last year I was right in the middle of the 2nd row - ever seen a nearly 50 year old man engulfed in a concert to the point where his wife wanted to sit elsewhere

Don't forget that the first post in this thread is coming up to being 2 years old now so I am unsure of its currency However I have found the document in Italy and updated the link in the post to it so it should work now
Oh, it is in English not Italian

The Cessna aircraft failed to arrive at Archerfield airport in Brisbane after leaving Bankstown airport in Sydney on Sunday morning.
Australian Search and Rescue says the aircraft refuelled at Scone in northern New South Wales, but has not been seen since.

This from our News Desk...Late Breaking News

Reporter: Fred Nerk
Australian Correspondent
WOW, there has been a late surge of forum members throwing their weight behind "The BigPete" in support of his continuing growth of fun at Recreational Flying. The Poll is now showing nearly 2,300 members are in full support of "The BigPete".
There was initial speculation questioning the very existence of "The BigPete" which has now been proven by overwhelming support that "The BigPete" does in fact exist.
"Where does it all end" the question was asked by the many followers of The Never Ending Story and it was even suggested that "The BigPete" stand for Prime Minister in the next elections. His dedicated team of "The Riverland Girl", "LittlePete" and the macca Dropping Jaba would stand fast and support "The BigPete's" stand for the top job. Afterall, it was exclaimed there isn't anyone in the job at the moment anyway.
Stay tuned as more late breaking news comes to hand on this evolving story.

The 15mile call is interesting and I would like to hear comments on this.
Firstly I switch over to the local at 10-11 mile, make my call and then listen to the traffic etc. I do this as I feel most people switch away from the local fairly quickly after departure and possibly when they get to cruise alt. Now if you switch away from area and over to local at 15m then you may be switching over a bit to soon - just a thought!
Also, it may have been an isolated case but one time when I was coming into Shepparton I switched over at about 15-18 mile out and heard nothing but as I got closer I started picking up some weak calls that became stronger as I got closer. I never asked but it may have been possible that if they were weak as I got closer, would they have heard my call especially if anything happened like colliding with an aircraft that was on area not local that had just left Shepparton - just another thought.
Is there an actual rule on this?

A PILOT suffered suspected spinal injuries when his crop duster crash landed today in South Australia's mid-north.
The 38-year-old man was the sole occupant of the single engine light aircraft which crash landed at the Jamestown airport just before 11am (CST) today, police say.
The man suffered suspected spinal injuries and leg lacerations and was taken to the Jamestown Hospital for treatment, a police spokesman said.

Mayor considers airport private partnership
Mayor considers airport private partnership
The Mackay Mayor says he is interested in going into partnership with the private sector to buy the airport.
Col Meng says a deal would give council a steady stream of income and part control over its development.
The Queensland Government is planning to sell-off the Mackay Airport later this year to fund the $405 million hospital redevelopment.
Councillor Meng says council is prepared to go into debt to buy into the sale.
"On a small scale if we became a shareholder in one of those companies that purchased the airport, I would imagine it would give us a place on their board ... it is certainly something we've discussed in broad terms around the table at council," he said.
-
Queensland Parliament has passed legislation clearing the way for the sale of two regional airports.
Parliament has approved the sale of the Cairns and Mackay Airports as well as the State Government's stake in the Brisbane Airport.
The proceeds will fund hospital upgrades at Cairns and Mackay in the state's north and Mount Isa in Queensland's north-west
The Opposition supported the Bill, but treasury spokesman Tim Nicholls told the House it was a rushed decision.
"Policy on the run has become policy in itself for this Government, while public consultation has become a thing of the past," he said.
Laws have also been passed giving police officers new powers to share information with their interstate colleagues.
Legislation allowing judge-only trials and majority jury verdicts was also approved, despite the Opposition voting against them.
Parliament also passed new laws the Government says clarify Queensland Health's arrangements with Mater Health Services in Brisbane.
The Mater operates three public hospitals and three private hospitals at South Brisbane.
Health Minister Stephen Robertson told the House that the Mater Hospitals play an important role in treating public patients.
"The Mater Public Health Services Bill has been developed to acknowledge the special relationship between Queensland Health and the Mater and the parties' commitment to maintain and enhance the relationship," he said.
"The Bill aims to achieve this by establishing a statutory framework for the arrangements between the parties about the delivery of public patient services."

Ok, I have closed the poll - perhaps it may be time to conduct an in-depth analysis on the results

That is a common thing that some people say about the Gazelle as it is so easy to fly:
The Gazelle teaches you to fly but doesn't teach you to be a pilot
I started in a Jabiru LSA and at Point Cook - two things here, 1. was Point Cook is so windy at times and 2. the Jabiru LSA is a handful for first time flying.
After 7hrs I gave up and said to Corrine that flying wasn't what I thought it would be like. She convinced me to try another aircraft and somewhere else with better weather so I went to Shepparton and was in a Gazelle (the one I now own) - I loved it.
After the Gazelle I went back to Point Cook and got endorsed in the LSA Jabiru. I then went and got endorsed in the even faster and more of a handful CTsw.
And remember Ultralights - it was you who got me into flying so this website is YOUR FAULT
The point I am making is that I believe I found through this experience that all aircraft are different, all schools and instructors are different and all learning processes of an individual are different. If something doesn't feel right or you don't like it, just try it a different way and remember your flying is never compelled to just one aircraft etc. That half the fun, learning how different aircraft fly
