THE TALE OF THE ARAB FLIGHT CREW

The brand spanking new Airbus 340-600, sat in its hangar in Toulouse , France without a single hour of airtime.

Enter the Arab flight crew of Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies (ADAT) to conduct pre-delivery tests on the ground, such as engine runups, prior to delivery to Etihad Airways in Abu Dhabi ..

The ADAT crew taxied the A340-600 to the run-up area. Then they took all four engines to take-off power with a virtually empty aircraft.

Not having read the run-up manuals, they had no clue just how light an empty A340-600 really is. The take-off warning horn was blaring away in the cockpit because they had all 4 engines at full power. The aircraft computers thought they were trying to take-off but it had not been configured properly (flaps/slats , etc..)

Then one of the ADAT crew decided to pull the circuit breaker on the Ground Proximity Sensor to silence the alarm. ; This fools the aircraft into thinking it is in the air. The computers automatically released all the brakes and set the aircraft rocketing forward.

The ADAT crew had no idea that this is a safety feature so that pilots can't land with the brakes on. Not one member of the seven-man crew thought to throttle back the engines from their max power setting, so the $200 million brand-new aircraft crashed into a blast barrier, totalling it.

The extent of injuries to the crew is unknown, for there has been a news blackout in the major media in France and elsewhere.

Coverage of the story was deemed insulting to Muslim Arabs. Finally, the photos are starting to leak out.

  2. This has been moved from the thread Alert Security gone mad - Page 2 - Recreational Flying

This may be a little offtopic and I apologise for that but I wanted to say that I don't understand the big picture.

If we let our thoughts wander a little to the future, aviation is going to be a big part of every person's life. Did you know that many of the things that people thought were funny in the TV series The Thunderbirds made in the 60's are actually real today! If we watch any sci fi show aviation of some form is always a large part of it.

Aviation IS not only a mode of transport today but without the small experimental and development that goes into light aircraft today together with its freedoms that we have enjoyed in flying then how on earth are we ever going to have a "tomorrow"?

How is the progression link ever going to be made at some time in the future from the car to another form of transport. Is aviation ever going to be an option if there is no longer any place where the natural progression can occur.

If you wish to discuss this further then I will move this post to start a new thread

Go to "Device Manager" and expand by clicking on the + sign of the "Display Adaptor" and see what it says there.

Running your sim with all sliders up full will tax your PC a lot especially if you want to have realistic 3rd party sceneries and proper traffic which is why you are possibly getting that freeze.

I will have a look at my video card settings tomorrow and see what we could try with your video card

It is with deep regret, disappointment, unhappiness, lament, remorsefulness, grief or bemoan that I must/am being brought into this den of iniquity, wickedness, sin, vice and injustice and be forced, strained, affected, obligated, enforced, mandatory or required to respond, react, act in response, or take action to deeply hurtful, upsetting, unkind, cruel, spiteful, cutting, wounding, insensitive, tactless and inappropriate allegations, claims, accusations, assertions and contentions against myself and any known, or unknown, words grouped or factored, pertaining to or subsequently not pertaining to, any thought of, considered, implied, claimed or asserted that myself is or has been involved, concerned with, caught up, mixed up or implicated in any form of impropriety with that person, being or individual known, recognised, identified or acknowledged as BigPete.

Now I forget what I was going to say 006_laugh.gif.d4257c62d3c07cda468378b239946970.gif

(the wonders of Microsoft Word and its Thesaurus) ;)

  5. Flyer, I am under the impression that you can do your PPL BFR in the aircraft that you mostly fly and that means even an RAAus reg'd aircraft.

Perhaps a call to CASA at Moorabbin may answer the question however I believed it was discussed here in the forums about 2 years ago and this was the conclusion after several calls to CASA.

The problem I have here with the search facility in the forums which I need to look into is MySQL has a 4 character word search mimimum otherwise the database performance would drop considerably so a search for BFR won't work.

  6. But alas the pear tree was not the only threat to Slartimakaquid's sanger or sav bash but drop'n'pete!!! yes...Slartimakaquid thought to himself...what can I do to stop that drop'n'pete coming over with his jab dropping maccas to all...hmmm, I will...

(ian is now going to go on a diet or go back to smoking...I'm not that big...yet!)

  7. Nice looking interior however the panel space looks a bit limited - can't have an Avmap radio and transponder together and no room for anything else.

Like the Master it is definitely in the new breed of high priced low weight single engine, 2 seat aircraft coming out.

What are the possibilities of designing an ultimate Recreational Flying aircraft, get financial backing, build it and call it our own - could be an alternative to the Jabiru if we can get the design and pricing right - perhaps a low wing in-line 2 seater that goes 140 knots and costs $85k PLUS it even looks spectacular

A new forum has been created called The Ultimate Aussie Aircraft Project to follow on about designing an ultimate Australian aircraft

    Article from: AAP

A LIGHT plane carrying two people is believed to have crashed off Queensland's South Stradbroke Island.

The plane, believed to be a Russian-built vintage Yak 52 aircraft, was reported missing on a flight from Archerfield airport, west of Brisbane, to an undisclosed destination early this afternoon.

Water police were searching around Jumpinpin Bar, between north and south Stradbroke Island, off southeast Queensland, after the plane reportedly went down in the area about 12.30pm (AEST).

"We do know a plane was overdue, believed missing," Chris Sullivan from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) said.

RACQ CareFlight rescue helicopter spokesman Brian Russell said three helicopters and a number of boats were searching the Jumpinpin Bar and surrounding area this afternoon.

"We had a call about 12.30pm this afternoon for a light plane that has gone into the water just south of Jumpinpin Bar," Mr Russell said.

"We have been searching for three hours but there has been no sighting of any wreckage, as yet."

Searchers were due to meet at the Couran Cove resort late this afternoon to formulate another search pattern, he said.

It's believed a person on a beach reported seeing the plane crash into the water.

  9. My uncle (mother's brother) retired as a Chief Inspector and started up the melb Peninsula branch of the retired police association told me many stories of what happens in the police force. he got a medal for disarming a man with a gun and I think that is a situation like that knowing any second you could be dead would be a stressful time.

He was in charge of St. Kilda at a time when it was like Kings Cross of Sydney. I asked him what could he do and he said all that could be done there was to keep the kids out and it will eventually die. Sure enough St. Kilda is now a rather cosmopolitan place.

he was also in charge of the gaming squad and one night when I went over to his place he was sitting in front of the fire after a days work reading a little black book having a chuckle to himself. It was the proceeds of a raid that happened that day and he scored the names and addresses of so many bookies that were flaughting the law. Obviously more raids were going to happen in the following days 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

If you believe there is corruption in the police force that I can tell you it must have started many many many years ago. My Great Great Great etc Grandfather who came out on the first fleet for stealing a piece of lead of a roof top, ended up the very first Chief Constable of Police in Victoria - and he was a criminal 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif 006_laugh.gif.d4257c62d3c07cda468378b239946970.gif 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

They're only human and they have to put up with a lot from us folk

  10. Thanks Guys!

I would have to say it was the most frightening hour+ of my wife and my lives. We live about 150 yards from a train line that isn't fenced off but it wasn't things like this that scared us the most but he is such a cute kid that he could have been picked up by an undesirable whilst walking along in a frightened way.

It completely wrecked us for the entire day - on one hand you want to cuddle him yet on the other you want to really pay out on him for not listening to you.

I would not wish that time on anyone, no matter what - the cops knew what they were doing - the policewoman was inside trying to keep us calm, one was checking every part of the house, one was out the front directing neighbours and other cops what to do.

My daughter who also suffers Dyspraxia was at her special course learning to communicate for children with disabilities and was oblivious from it all and Lachlan was mostly scared that Caitlin would be mad with him when she got home 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

Last night when we tucked him up in bed he said "Mummy Daddy, I no do agen" we both just 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif
