Yenn, the President is actually elected, not at the AGM, but in the Board Meeting that follows the AGM. The President, Secretary and Treasurer are elected by the Board Members and not the RAAus Members unfortunatelyAt the AGM, the president retires and there will be an election for a new president, or to re install the present president. -
Hi All
Today I made some changes to the cosmetics of the site...I hope you like them.
They are all just little things like splitting the main menu off from the content component of each page, rounding corners, minor colour changes and other bits and pieces. These are all in line with trying to make the site look more comfortable to use, bringing out the elements that you use and de-emphasising the axillary elements all making it more comfortable to use.
Some code elements have also been rewritten in line with W3 standards.

I took right on 40hrs to get my Pilot Certificate. The extra time above what is looking like the average was mostly due to being blind in one eye. With only having sight in one eye you don't have that extra dimension, the 3rd dimension of height especially when ascertaining the correct time to start flaring. I spent many hours just trying to get the right point of when to flare...I could have been 1ft off the ground or 10ft, I had no idea.
My Instructor at the time, at Shepparton, was a guy named David Wickham...now he was a pretty smart little character because on the left of 36 at the time was a tree so he said he will guide the controls but I had to look at the tree, runway, tree, runway, tree, runway etc so I could see what my height was by the tree and what the runway looked like at that height. We kept doing this over and over and over again till I knew what the runway looked like at what height...in 2 dimensions. Eventually I was then able to know when exactly to flare by what the runway looked like.
This worked fantastically until the day came that I landed on the main runway at Avalon...do you know the size of that runway, how wide those white lines are down the middle...that is another story but I was given a great compliment by a guy named Leo Moras, the Flight Design CT agent. Leo was at the time a Singapore Airlines A340 Captain and he was taking me for familiarisation flights of my new CT at Riddells Creek...after several circuits Leo said "You may only have one eye and you see things in 2 dimension only, but he had never met anyone who can line up a runway as good as me"...the point is, it doesn't matter how long it takes, what factors make it hard that you have to overcome, enjoy the ride and pick a good instructor as a good instructor is worth every darn cent!

I can remember driving to the airfield, with 150hrs in my book absolutely nervous as hell for some unknown reason...not sure about others but I found that it comes and goes and I get confused whether it's the universe trying to tell me something or it's just a reality check but trust your training and remember they wouldn't have given you your certificate if you were not good enough so think about thatCan I ask? The longer it took to get your certificate did it make you less nervous after you got your certificate. I find I am extremely nervous at the moment flying solo after getting my certificate. Is this normal?-

I guess ones that have the little lug thingy for the headsets to clip on to...sorry for not being much help but I don't fly open cockpit where you need a helmet so I am not sure
-
They are $129.95 each so a set of 2 standard ones is $259.90 - http://www.recreationalflying.com/pilot_supplies/recreational-flying-250-headset.htmlWhat would be the current price on a set of two Ian ?....................................Maj...
The Helmet type are $99.95 each so 2 would be $199.90
-
The poll also says GFPT if that helps FrankCan't contribute here as I converted from a GA Lic. -

Thanks Guys, it is just all about questioning the cosmetics and customer feedback is important...because I know how much you all like to walk down the Catwalk showing off the latest styles in aviation and what Pilots are wearing this season

-
I believe, but don't quote me on this as I haven't specifically asked him, but I am told he is in the Accounts Dep't

We all know the minimum amount of hours, as defined by the manuals, is 20hrs of training for an RAAus Pilot Certificate or a GFPT in the PPL arena however, we know that in 99% of cases it does actually take longer then the required minimum amount of hours to do it.
Now, I know we will try and brag about how long it was...how long was it?...but let's see what the average really is as this will help the many potential students out there to budget their finances and their real expectations and not just think they can become a pilot just after 20 hours of instruction.
(this will get you running for your log books

I am about to order another 100 Recreational Flying Headsets:
My questions are:
1. Is the Blue still the right colour for them...I thought Blue made them stand out against all other headsets making them unique
2. Should they be named something else like "Clear Prop"...currently they just have our logo and the web site name on the side of them in silver
3. Should the name/logo what ever it ends up being be silver or black or ???
Just thought I would ask for customer input.
Also note that the shop here on the site has 200 Wire Twisters on their way so their price will be heavily reduced when they arrive.
Also we are about to place an order for 250 E6Bs, all sizes of navigational rulers (600), plotters, protractors etc. Because we are having them specially manufactured for Recreational Flying they will take a couple of months to manufacture and arrive and when they do, again their prices will be heavily reduced...we are trying to pass on what ever savings we can make direct to you in the hope it helps recreational aviators.

If 78 to 80 Knots stopped spending money on the beauty therapy he may be able to change his Aircraft Type from "I want to build one but the budget is "short"" to "I may well be ugly but I have built an aircraft"

Most likely NO as they don't pay for the site nor do they do anything to support it and as seen over the many years they have done nothing but attack it and me personally in every way they could, so they have lost that privilege...however, I have offered to one board member, just yesterday, that when, and only when, Steve Runciman, Paul Middleton and Eugene Reid resign from the RAAus board and Steve Tizzard from the RAAus, for their part in recent events, I offered and will gladly sit down and meet with the RAAus Board and hopefully we can nut out a great working relationship for the future between RAAus and this site for the betterment of recreational aviation in this country...I offered to them last October that we try and create a better working relationship but they did not even reply. Instead the email chain that proceeded that offer was again derogatory against me personally and this site by the likes of Steve Runciman. So in answer to your nasty undertone post, as you seem to be doing on this resource that I make available to you for absolutely free, I can say that this site has tried and tried and tried, over many many years to work with the RAAus under an understanding of some kind but they don't want to come out and play. So Metalman, it is obvious with the number of attempts I have made on behalf of this site to improve its working relationship with the RAAus you should be directing your hostilities to them rather then me personally or this site as you seem to do not only here but on other web sites as well.I would ask that if the board did decide to respond as publicly as they've been attacked on this forum would they be allowed to, as this is a privately owned site and the owner is at the centre of the sh!t fight, would allegations leveled at Ian Baker actually be allowed?I am assuming yet again that my offer will fall on deaf ears.

The thing you have to remember is my health has absolutely nothing to do with any of this...my solicitor said as a part of her email that this was the reason why I let my membership lapse but the reason why I let my membership lapse has nothing to do with my application to join RAAus

Hi All
Just a reminder to ask that when creating threads here at Recreational Flying that if you could select the most appropriate forum that best reflects the subject matter of your thread instead of creating it just in say for example "General Discussion". Makes it easier for me and less embarrassing for you when you can't find your thread because it has been moved to a more specific forum...thanks for your help and understanding

Naturally being involved in this massive resource Recreational Flying (.com.au), every week I receive many phone calls, emails and even letters by snail mail on many things to do with RAAus, issues experienced by members, thoughts and ideas, rumours and gossip etc etc etc. One recent phone call I was told of a rumour (NOTE RUMOUR ONLY and NOT CONFIRMED BY ME) that RAAus was looking into implementing a CASA style Points and Fines System. Is this what you guys are referring to with "strict liability"...this rumour needs to be verified first though otherwise it is all hypothetical

Simply brilliant Sue and a very much appreciated contribution...The software doesn't currently support that however if you can create the quizzes, I will find a way to do it. We may well end up getting a Quiz section specifically developed for the site...on behalf of everyone here, thanks again for the offerHi Ian,Does the current software support quizzes?
If it does, I was thinking of developing some multi-choice qns from the John Brandon tutorials, ATC Phrases, basic aeronautical knowledge, human factors, etc, as well as some humorous ones. "Resources", would be the best place for it, I guess. There were quizzes a couple of years back, but it never got off the ground for lack of content.

Look out skies, another one on the loose...Congrats Mate

The problem is how do you confirm that the person logging in is who they say they are...if you use membership number well anyone can get someone else's number that has been printed in the mag etc...and even if you devised some method of a password etc, how do you know that without physically seeing a membership card that the password used has not been ascertained in some unknown manner.
I thought of trying to figure out a way of doing this some time ago but kept coming up with no specific way other then seeing the person and their membership card to be reliable
-
Robyn, the answer to that is no sorry however, you can see who of your friends are registered here by going to the Members page and looking in the right column, if you are currently logged in by using your Facebook account:

I am not sure about that one Robyn...I will look into it for you

I will let everyone know that this matter is not closed and is proceeding further. The initial letter from Steve Runciman full of unsubstantiated accusations, stating that my membership application has been stopped due to the potential of bringing the RAAus into disrepute and then to receive a letter from him saying something completely and utterly different is just beyond understanding...There is something truly wrong with what happened here and things like this must not happen in Aviation in Australia, in Aviation anywhere in the world for that matter. Aviation needs integrity, it needs professionalism and above all it needs honesty and I personally believe we have not seen this from a CASA Approved Governing Body that is suppose to be there to protect and enhance the safety of nearly 11,000 people in Australia.
The matter is continuing and has already gone further and I am calling for a public apology, personally from Steve Runciman, and also from the entire RAAus Board Executive.
I also personally call for the immediate resignations of Steve Runciman, Paul Middleton, Eugene Reid and Steve Tizzard...do the right thing and let RAAus start rebuilding itself into that professional, honest governing body that has integrity and can then be seen and believed to be protecting and enhancing the safety of ALL recreational aviators, not only in the eyes of CASA, but also in the eyes of the RAAus members, as these activities that we have just witnessed will hopefully be performed professionally and not end up occurring in this manner at all.
