FlyBoy1960 Posted October 23 Posted October 23 It is way bigger than your average LSA aircraft. He would need a significant hangar based on the scale of the persons around the aircraft. Imagine if it had a seat or 2 ! Imagine the call at your local airfield.. 747 1234 on one mile final for landing at xxx. That would bring everybody running out of the aeroclub! 1 2
facthunter Posted October 23 Posted October 23 There's strict rules about where you can fly these things. Nev

Under Australian laws model aircraft are limited to 150kg MTOW. Anything over 7kg needs a MAAA airworthiness inspection and a Permit to fly. The pilot also needs to meet a proficiency requirement. 3

I'm sure it's possible to go wrong, but very unlikely. For instance one of the basic fail-safe aspects is that if the RX doesn't get a signal within a certain time, it will go to a preset mode, eg throttle back and fly orbits.

Marty_d Posted October 25 Posted October 25 Thought so. Ramy RC has made a massive A380 but it's nowhere as big as that. AI gives the length of his as 29ft, wingspan 32ft and weight 362kg. Can't be bothered watching his video to confirm.
onetrack Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I thought the bloke in W.A. held the world record for the biggest model B747. His has a longer wingspan and overall length than the reported "record holder", but it's 3 kgs lighter. I would've thought the wingspan and overall length would've been the requirement for the "world record", not the weight. https://www.perthnow.com.au/wa/worlds-biggest-remote-controlled-jumbo-jet-replica-meets-full-sized-qantas-747-ng-b88969614z
facthunter Posted October 26 Posted October 26 Wing Sweepback is not helpful at lower speeds ( dutch roll and structurally Twisting.). It would probably need Gyroscopic stabilisation. Nev

Are you even flying a model anymore with that level of handholding? 2
facthunter Posted October 26 Posted October 26 The real ones have Yaw dampers.. In my opinion some of the Models would be uncontrollable without them. I'd be Picking planes with relatively big straight wings to base a model on.. Nev 1

Far be it for me to criticise a man's hobby choices, but these gigantic models seem to be the opposite of what I'm looking for in a hobby. I bet you could buy a small ultralight for the price of some of these things!

Marty_d Posted October 26 Posted October 26 I used to enjoy designing and building r/c models. Only ever single glow engine, straight constant chord wing. But it did tend to bear out the old saying " If it looks right, it'll fly right" 2

Kyle Communications Posted October 27 Posted October 27 Its all AI slop that video. Saw it about 12 months ago. Knew it was BS then. If you want to see truly large "jet" models look up RamyRC on Youtube he builds custom aircraft for a movie producer/writer Tyler Perry..not for films but for the guy himself. His hangars and house are really over the top. All the models use electric ducted fans...big ones. I would hate to think how much money Tyler spends..he gets Ramy to build it all onsite at his plaxe. No expense is spared on CNC parts like molds and forms. Even the batteries and fans and motors would be eyewatering costs. Itall pretty impressive. I do love the C17... I must say. The other stuff is mainly commercial and private jets. Ramy has been working on the model for the blended wing companys there is a great video on his trial and tribulations with scaled down versions to get them the actually fly before they fly the big one he has made 2

Ramy works for him building movie props, that probably helps with the cost of building the aircraft.
