409tonner Posted Sunday at 08:28 AM Posted Sunday at 08:28 AM Has anyone on this forum or know anyone that uses Starlink mini in their aircraft while airborne? I have seen a couple youtube videos from USA that you can’t use it anymore over 80 knots without now subscribing to a rather expensive plan . I was wondering if this applies to the Australian region .I am lead to believe that it is restricted due to the mini been used in drones in the current wars .I use a mini in my vehicle but I have never tried it in my aircraft.

Drive your vehicle over 80 knts on a quiet Rd and see if it still works.
facthunter Posted Sunday at 10:40 AM Posted Sunday at 10:40 AM You'll lose your car licence doing that. Nev 1

BrendAn Posted Sunday at 10:47 AM Posted Sunday at 10:47 AM Would have to be an electric car. To expensive to use petrol😁
BurnieM Posted Sunday at 01:56 PM Posted Sunday at 01:56 PM I believe it is all Starlinks and internationally. You cannot go over 100mph (87kt) unless you buy an aviation plan. The cheapest aviation plan (up to 300mph) is US$250 and 20GB per month. 1
Arron25 Posted Sunday at 10:31 PM Posted Sunday at 10:31 PM I don't have Starlink (yet) but I did find out early that my Iridium sat phone with external magnetic antenna on the car (similar LEO satellite type) started failing at 110km and was next to useless at 120..

Yep, did read about their scaled pricing plans. Maybe use when landed only on the cheapest plan, also maybe setup up an air switch to power it in flight so it is off when above 80 kts, so if need to use in flight then slow to 80 kts and below to use.
BurnieM Posted Sunday at 11:10 PM Posted Sunday at 11:10 PM A standard Starlink Roam plan gives you 100GB up to 100mph and is AU$80 a month.
T510 Posted Sunday at 11:12 PM Posted Sunday at 11:12 PM I have Starlink at home and a Starlink mini for mobile use, unfortunately the speed limit is international. As the limit is 100mph I'll only use it whilst moving in my slow plane
BurnieM Posted Sunday at 11:17 PM Posted Sunday at 11:17 PM (edited) Odd thing is that this 100mph limt was in place a while ago (18 months?) then Starlink upped it and introduced the mini. A lot of GA users started using Starlink. In March 26 they put the Roam plans back to 100mph max. A few people have suggested that this is based on drones using Starlink in the middle east. Starlink can disable services based on their location so this reason is probably not why we currently have this speed based restriction. Nobody is quite sure what Elons strategy is.
