Sounds to me like an incident ie nothing ".....a bit silly" about it at all. 😈
facthunter Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Loud noises would make my sphincter tighten too, IF you are not sure of what the cause is. Nev. 1
BrendAn Posted June 22 Posted June 22 i am a pretty nervous flyer . i haven't even got one hundred hours up yet. keeps me alert though 3
facthunter Posted June 22 Posted June 22 Being a bit nervous is better than being overconfident , You take less risks that way. You have to believe you can do it though. Just make sure you get the basics right and keep the plane in control, right up to the crash IF that's the way it has to be, Wherever you, are HAVE a Plan. That's good Gen. Nev 3 1

Childish inexperience at its best! Brings back memories of my first car, a two door Fiat 600 with suicide doors. It ended up having matching arcs impressed into the front door skins that fitted the rear wheel arches. When the exhaust broke on the Zenith I smelled the fumes right away. I didn’t hear it until I landed an hour or so later. Now I have an RAAus CO detector that hopefully never has a reading. 3 1
Kiwi Posted June 22 Posted June 22 (edited) My RAAus CO detector sometimes goes off when taxing with a tailwind, and the door is ajar in the Cherookee (when the weather is hot), as soon as I face into wind, it goes back to 0. It has also gone off in the Rans when the doors are open while taxing. I've never tried it in the Drifter...... Edited June 22 by Kiwi 2

red750 Posted June 24 Posted June 24 Popping a door in a Bonanza is similar - cold and loud. Did it once doing solo touch and goes at Moorabbin back in the 70's. Made it a full stop, closed and latched the door, back to the holding point and off again. The door sat about 3 inches ajar during the landing. 4 2
facthunter Posted June 24 Posted June 24 No need to crash because the door is Ajar Just some extra drag and some noise.. Don't be distracted. Nev 4 1 1
Flightrite Posted June 24 Posted June 24 I’ve had 3 doors pop open during my career driving planes, a PA28, a C310 & a PA31, the latter was the lower half of the clamshell cabin door arrangement. A woman pax sitting opposite the door made more noise screaming than the Lyc donk in close proximity! 😂 The PA31 did handle differently at App speed, I could feel a slight buffeting. The secret is to fly the plane, some just lose their priorities! 3 1 1
onetrack Posted June 24 Posted June 24 The worrying part would be - what goes out that open door! Important stuff from inside a cockpit, going byes-byes into the slipstream, could be more than just embarrassing. Things like logbooks, expensive electronic devices, etc. Not tied down, they are candidates for being sucked out. 2 1

T510 Posted June 25 Posted June 25 Couple of big days training to complete my XC endorsement. Great fun flying around doing touch and goes at a whole lot of different airstrips. Really enjoyed the theory, doing planning on paper and using OzRunway. Got to say I prefer navigating with out following the magenta line. I just ended up using OzRunway as a digital map and working off my flight plan notes, landmarks and the time. 5 3

BrendAn Posted Saturday at 05:08 AM Posted Saturday at 05:08 AM Perfect day for a flight today. Very calm. Ocean is like a mirror. VID20260627131055.mp4 6
Thruster88 Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago Was almost the last flight for my Thruster last night, a narrow mini tornado demolished the old wool shed and 100 ton silo. Picked up a mobile field bin and set it down with minimal damage where 12 trees used to be. Thruster was in the black shade cloth door hangar only 30 -40 metres from the destructive path. Sheets of tin went over a kilometer down wind. Feeling very lucky. 5 1 2 1 2
