  1. Well done, Steve! Now it starts! Cheers Neil
  2. Yeah! Go the Gazelle!
  3. I am registered too! Cheers Neil
  4. Hi Mark, Having been to the last couple I would say if you are considering taking up flying then the best value would probably be just talking to the pilots there. Most are very friendly and helpful, and should fill you in on the practical side of flying, owning or building etc, depending on what aspects interest you. Cheers Neil
  5. Incredible! Great video. .......Still don't understand how they did it without hi-viz jackets though.... Cheers Neil
  6. Hi Mark, Absolutely brilliant! Brought back memories of building model planes out of balsa wood, tissue paper and dope when I was a young lad in the UK. The worst incident was when one of them landed in Leigh Creek one Christmas Eve, and I had to wade in to retrieve it. The water was bloody cold, being UK Christmas Eve, and my mum was NOT impressed! But at least my plane was able to fly another day (albeit with surfaces a bit warped...) Cheers Neil
  7. Thanks for posting the video, Mark. The guy is very brave to do a film so others can learn, and really think about whether they should fly. All the lectures in the world do not bring home the point as forcefully as a real incident like this. I hope he can feel less guilty in the future. I shall certainly be questioning myself before I fly rather more than I have done in the past. Neil
  8. Flown a 747...............................................OK, it was a simulator, but landing at SFO was brilliant!
  9. ....so you wouldn't like a Pitts Special or Extra 300??
  10. Hmm - times on NOTAMs are UTC (GMT), so you would add 10 hours (if in Aus Eastern time zone). Check out http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOTAM - example given for London Heathrow 0609050500 0704300500 FROM: 05:00 UTC 5 September 2006 UNTIL:05:00 UTC 30 April 2007 ....still doesn't answer why it is from 13.29 local time though.... Cheers Neil
  11. According to the film you posted the ground where a bomber came down becomes contaminated with phosphorus from the incendiaries and little will grow - and anyway I'm not sure I would want to eat stuff grown in phosphorus-laced earth .....I might start to glow in the dark....
  12. Agree absolutely, Maj. If we can't learn from other people's misfortune then there is more likelihood it will get repeated..... I am also sure the relatives and friends of the unfortunate person would take some comfort in knowing that any relevant information that may prevent a repeat occurrence had been passed on. Neil
  13. Extremely sad news. My condolences to the lady's family and friends..... Let's hope we hear quickly what the cause was so we can all learn from it. Neil
  14. Thanks for posting that, OK. Very interesting. My cousin in the UK did a similar search to find the history of her uncle shot down in a Lancaster over France. She has visited the field where it crashed, tended, but never cultivated since, by a French farming family. She has some small pieces of the bomber. I will forward this to her. Cheers Neil
  15. Thorough Throughout Through Threw Thought Trough Though Thou Bough Tort Taut Taught Ought Tough Dough Drought Rough Ruff hiccough Enough!
  16. Yes, it's enough to make you believe in karma....(well, almost.....as it's so unscientific ).... Cheers Neil
  17. Personally I would go for Glenfiddich....hoots!
  18. Hi Robert, Only 30 years?? You mere youngster! It took me over 40 .... As the others have said - . I am sure you will be contributing lots. Keep us up to date with your progress, and don't hold back on asking any questions.... Cheers Neil
  19. I think that's down to a few wee drams of Scotch, Jimmy.....
  20. Best of luck, guys!!
  21. Hi Paul & Cheers Neil
  22. I believe we had a thread about this a while ago where somebody came up with statistics that showed you did NOT flip over with fixed (esp tricycle) undercarriage despite the popular assumption that you would..... Cheers Neil
  23. Hi Peter, Welcome! I fly from Penfield, just down the road from Kyneton, and have flown past your airfield many times. You must drop in to Penfield one of these days. We use Texans for training, and I learnt in one - very nice aircraft. Keep us posted on this site with your flying exploits.... Cheers Neil
  24. Hi Vev, Interesting stuff indeed. I'm afraid despite working in acronym-happy IT for decades I couldn't work out what R-LOC was, so had to probe the web. For others in the same position - here it is :- R-LOC is runway loss of control. These are overshoots, undershoots, skids, slides, crosswind incidents, hard touchdowns and all sorts of runway mayhem related to the inability to just basically control the airplane. Cheers Neil
