  1. Well I am in the fortunate position of being able to report GOOD news on the registration front. Our rego is due to expire on Oct 27th, and I received the renewal notice on Sept 26th. I sent off the renewal info with a new set of rego and warning sign photos signed & dated by Sept 27th. Yesterday (Oct 15th) I received 2 emails confirming a) the money had been taken from our account b) our rego had been renewed with no problems. So that was 2 weeks! So from our perspective well done to the RA-Aus admin staff for getting the rego renewal done promptly! Cheers Neil
  2. I got it too.
  3. Hi Bucky, OK - just try to convince your missus that the knowledge and skills you get from flying will be passed on to your kids and will enhance their education Cheers, Neil
  4. Bit of a ruff landing, I thought.... Did he have any K-9 missiles on board? See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K-9_%28missile%29 Neil
  5. Hi HITC, I attended one of the CASA lectures about this stuff. Holders of the RPL can subsequently get a XC endorsement, same as RA-Aus certificate holders. So no problem there that I can see. They can also get a Controlled Airspace (CTA) and Controlled Aerodrome (CTR) endorsement, which we can't. To be sure, I suggest you contact CASA - the 2 guys doing the talk I attended were very happy to take questions by phone or email. They were Michael White and Tim Penney [email protected] and [email protected] Cheers Neil
  6. Hi Cosmick, Thanks for posting - we can all learn from your unfortunate experience. As others have said, the main thing is that you and your pax are OK, although it is obviously sad about the plane. We have toe brakes in our Gazelle, and I find them very useful - but then I have small feet, so I do not usually have a problem with inadvertently hitting the brakes! The main problem we have is no parking brake, so sloping ground or windy conditions can be interesting until a quick exit can be made from the cockpit to chock the wheels! All the best with getting back in the saddle, and I hope Mark's plane can be quickly (and not too expensively) fixed. Cheers Neil
  7. Well, if we're going to get technical :- fumus, fumi Latin noun 2nd declension gender: masculine Cheers Neil
  8. Excellent film, Nev. Thanks for posting. Cheers Neil
  9. Hi Marty, I see you're from Tassie - but if you are ever over Melbourne way drop into Point Cook RAAF Museum and take a look at the Mosquito they are currently rebuilding (sadly not to flying condition, just for static display). Edit -> Ah - just spotted Facthunter has already pointed this out!! Cheers, Neil
  10. Hi B200man! Tell us a bit more about yourself, we are nosey interested! What planes you fly, what your particular interests are etc Cheers, Neil
  11. Hi Phil, Here are two (plus the one in my avatar ) Cheers Neil
  12. Hi Steve, All the best with your recovery. The fact you are sending updates from your phone and getting told off by the nurses is good . Hope all goes well - keep us informed. Cheers Neil
  13. Hi Shane and . The N-3 Pup looks great - exactly the sort of fun little machine that recreational flying is all about IMO. Keep us posted on your progress - look forward to hearing about its completion. Cheers, Neil
  14. Hi Keith, I was actually quite pleasantly surprised - the wooden prop has performed OK since it was refitted. It has been a bit bumpy on the occasions I have flown since the refit, but my impression would be a slightly slower rate of climb, but in cruise it is about the same as the Bolly (pretty much the book figures). I guess a slightly different pitch/shape would be one factor..... Rgds, Neil
  15. Hi Keith, Sad, but true. Recently removed a 2 blade Bolly from our Gazelle and refitted the original Allsize wooden one so as to remain 24 rego compliant. Agree that something needs to be done to allow more efficient modern props to be fitted. Spoke to a number of CAR 35 engineers on the subject, but none seemed to know how to go about such things, and would have charged an arm and a leg in any case, so we gave up. Cheers Neil
  16. Hi Mal, Hmmm - will have to ask Terry about that! Cheers Neil
  17. Have read both those - excellent stuff.... What are the details for "Flak" - have not come across that one....
  18. They (RAA) contact the registered owner of the plane as per the rego, either seen or heard on broadcast. They ask who was flying at that time.
  19. Hi guys, Same goes for AvPlan..... Cheers Neil
  20. Hi Greg, Great video! Thanks for posting. Are you aware of the B-24 Liberator restoration being done in a hangar just outside Werribee? Happy to take you down there if you are out my way..... Cheers, Neil
  21. Hi Maj, Totally agree! I was lucky enough to visit Fantasy of Flight a few years back when on a business trip to Orlando, and had a free day. Brilliant facility - definitely worth a visit if you can swing it. Featured plane of the day was a Fiesler Storch which did a demo of really slow flight. Went for a flight in the New(!) Standard D-25 - great fun. Also watch a lot of the Kermie Cam footage. Cheers Neil
  22. Yes - a very enjoyable event. Worth flying up (RPT) from Melbourne. We should have put on badges with our "handles" from this site - then we could have put faces to names. Loved seeing Bruce Clarke's Sopwith Pup and the other WW1 kits/planes at Watts Bridge on the Sunday too.... Neil
  23. Good post, FT. Enjoyed it. Cheers Neil
  24. Absolutely brilliant! Very inspiring stuff. Congratulations to Dave Neil
  25. Hi Ryan, Oshkosh 2014 is on my bucket list too. I hope to meet up there with my brother who is coming out from the UK - maybe meet up with you as well! BTW being at Caboolture are you a member of TAVAS (The Australian Vintage Aviation Society)? I am flying (commercial) up to a Meet the Fokkers TAVAS event at Caboolture on Saturday June 15th, so might see you there if so. Cheers Neil
