  1. Hi Scotty, Thanks for the info! Very useful. Cheers Neil
  2. Thanks, Steve! Looking forward to seeing it..... Cheers Neil
  3. Hi Scotty, Great pix! I definitely intend to be there for 2015. Do you know where I can buy the DVD when it comes out? Do they have a web site I can buy it from? Also be interested to know if you organized your trip yourself or went with one of those group organized ones. Any advice on hotels/transport etc greatly appreciated..... Cheers Neil
  4. Hi Joe, Welcome to the forums. I also fly out of Penfield - so hope to catch up some time. Cheers Neil
  5. Good onya, Mark! The latest EAA magazine from the US has an article on their Eagle Flights scheme, and in the article a guy (Brady Lane) describes doing the same - taking friends up for a fly to get them hooked and encourage more people to learn to fly.... Cheers Neil
  6. Yes - if you are a member of TAVAS the December 2012 newsletter has an article about Bruce Clarke's Sopwith Pup replica which is an Airdrome (Rob Baslee) kit and is registered RA-Aus 19-7339. It has a VW 110hp engine. First flight may have happened by now.....He is based at Watts Bridge QLD. Cheers Neil
  7. Beeeeoooootiful! I want one! Neil
  8. Hi Roxy, Welcome to you and Norman. What aircraft did you build and test fly? Where did you build/fly them? Cheers Neil
  9. Excellent video & music! Thanks for posting! Cheers Neil
  10. LOL - I love your logic! Cheers Neil
  11. Hi Nev, There is a Flying Flea hangared at Penfield if you want to see one built fairly recently..... Cheers Neil
  12. ...so if your POH has the phrase "Normal Cruise Speed" with a figure quoted then you're OK. But if it doesn't then what do you use? Do you interpret the top of the AI green arc as the cruise speed? Do you use TAS, or IAS? Or something else? Cheers Neil
  13. ....and that's just the point, Terry. Where does it say what your aircraft is? I have a Gazelle and fortunately both an HP and LP endo, but I know people flying Gazelles with only an HP endo because nobody knows for sure whether it is LP or HP. So one day those nice people at CASA come along and ramp check you. They say you need an LP endo to fly your plane and you don't have one. Oooops! Busted! Until we have a reference document with each plane listed we won't know. Cheers Neil
  14. Hi folks, This video is absolutely brilliant. No matter how much we love flying, sometimes even the most passionate among us can briefly lose sight of the magic that drew us to fly in the first place. A wonderful video of 6-year-old Lainey Woodson taking her first airplane ride with her father, Bobby, in the family's 1946 Aeronca Champ. Enjoy! Cheers Neil
  15. Hi Guy, and welcome! I really hope to come over to Kiwiland and see Warbirds over Wanaka, and the WW1 planes at Omaka. Definitely on the bucket list. Cheers Neil
  16. Hi Doug, Absolutely brilliant! Vintage Aviation enthusiast heaven! I was lucky enough to go to an Air Pageant at the Shuttleworth Collection last year when the weather was kind and we saw the really old (Edwardian) planes flying. I captured some video on my old stills camera, but obviously it was nowhere as good as this! Thanks for posting - sheer delight! Cheers Neil
  17. Hi Greg, Brilliant! Let's have some more! Cheers Neil
  18. LOL - and there are people who fly Gazelles (which cruise at 70-75 kts) on a HP endo as the AI green arc goes up to 86kts (maximum structural cruising speed). If the Sav cruises at 85-90 knots how does it classify as LP? This just exposes the whole 80 knots LP/HP thing as a farce. Neil
  19. ...now how did I guess you were also from Melbourne.......
  20. Hi Tomo, Nice Pix! It was good to meet up with you and chat for a while too. Cheers Neil
  21. Hi John, I have a cheap and cheerful Garmin 196 - can be used in both plane and car (although I have not used it in the car). Has no colours or fancy stuff, but you get what you pay for. I am sure there are others too. Cheers Neil
  22. Hi Dan and , Where are you learning & what are you flying? Cheers Neil
  23. Hi Octave, Looks like your dad really enjoyed it! It always saddens me that I got my pilot certificate after my dad had passed away - he would have been the first to come up for a flight. My mum always said she wanted to come up for a flight too, but she was in her 80s and living in the UK, so that never happened either..... Make the most of it. Cheers Neil
  24. Hi guys, Comment added on the first site. No swearing, just asking for people to appreciate the positives that small airfields bring to a community (and the fact it's been there for 45 years already!) GOOD LUCK! Cheers Neil
  25. Hi Harold, Welcome aboard. So where are you learning? What are you flying? Don't be shy! Cheers Neil
