  1. Very well done when looking at Google maps - shows about 630m of open space from tree line to tree line and they've used about 500m of it. Yes, getting it out is going to be tight 😬, or on a truck ☹️
  2. This company specialises in RV extras, started with a reinforcement for the nose leg, called Anti Splat Aero ! 😬 Antisplat
  3. Is a little less flamability like being a little bit pregnant?
  4. VH-ECI is in my Log Book 😁
  5. OME, can I suggest you have an overfly type finish point close to the aerodrome, but not in conflict with the circuit. this way no one is trying to fight for their position to protect their finish time. As you say, it's only going to take 1 idiot to mess this up for everyone. I know it's more work, but I would suggest it's safer; I'm sure you've seen this from the Serpentine Air Race rules SECTION 16 – FINISHING 16.1 On arrival back to the airfield, pilots are to fly at the briefed height over such points as are designated on the aerodrome pre-flight briefing. 16.2 Observers and timekeepers will be stationed at designated points to visually identify aircraft arriving overhead. 16.3 An aircraft will be timed as crossing the designated point the moment the aircraft passes over the timekeepers stationed at that point. 16.4 After arriving over the top, competitors are to adopt normal circuit procedure. Sudden changes of direction or speed are prohibited after crossing the designated points, but pilots should land in the minimum time consistent with the traffic conditions and safety. 16.5 After landing it is mandatory to taxi to the allotted parking space before stopping the engine. Alternatively if you want the finish at the aerodrome, the finish could be the crosswind join for the circuit; For 04, AC must overfly midfield at 1500ft agl, decend on the dead side and join 04 crosswind, finish is when they cross runway centreline. For 22, AC join crosswind 22 at 1000ft agl, finsh is when they cross runway centreline. They will be broadcasting their 10m inbound and should also broadcast their joining crosswind, which gives your observers, who, what and where to look for.
  6. I've been reminded of something that I omitted above. Any other apps that need internet that you want to use whilst the Skyecho is connected also need to be set to mobile data only. ie, web browser, weather apps, spotify, etc
  7. The Android problem is Skyecho connects to the tablet via wifi, so your EFB thinks this is an internet source, which it's not. So you have to tell the tablet that your EFB only uses Mobile Data, so you get ADSB traffic from the Skyecho Wifi and EFB traffic from the mobile data. The Apple versions of the EFBs seem to have this function integrated, so it's easier. For Android, you can set it up so it's a once off. Basically, you change the settings so Av-Plan or Oz Rwy only uses mobile data, not wifi data. Which means your EFB will always be using mobile data, even for chart and ERSA upgrades. If you're not concerned with you Mobile Data usage, you can set it once and forget it. Tight arses like me like to use WIFI at home to reduce our mobile data usage, so we switch back and forth each flight. I've had an Ipad overheat in a RAM mount after 25 minutes into a flight. This was the second time it happened, so I cracked it and bought the Samsung, and sold the Ipad for more than double that. I haven't decided which I prefer actually. The Ipad is easier to use and the EFBs have more functions, some of which I do actually miss. But the Android tablets are significantly cheaper and so far, I've not had it overheat. Even though I've had backups when it's happened with the Ipads, is a major pain and a huge distraction. With the overheat issue, I'm in a perspex bubble, so worst case scenario.
  8. Danny, depends on what type of pain you want. The Skyecho with ipad, just works, no connection issues The Skyecho with Samsung (Android) requires 30 seconds of changing System settings and then works. I've had 2 Ipad overheat issues, none with the Samsung. Samsung tablet was $400 cheaper than the equivalent Ipad, I could buy 2 Samsung tablets for one Ipad and have change to spare. Avplan has more features on the Ipad vesion than the Android one So pick your poison.
  9. Would it be possible to have the volunteer and car at Gilgandra? those wanting Mogas (ie me 😁, I have my own collapsible jerrycans) could simply fly into Gilgandra, pay the volunteer $5 to drive them to the servo and they can purchase fuel. This would avoid the liability re fuel, as the pilot has purchased it themselves.
  10. That was exactly my experience. Ended up high on approach and tried to force it down, realised I wasn't happy with it, so went around. Bonus circuit for me 😁. Instructor was happy when I got back as he could see I was too high and was glad I went around.
  11. Unfortunately the news has come that the pilot passed on 24/12/22 😢 I never met him, but from accounts, his passing is a huge loss to the flying community. Condolences to his family and friends.
  12. The AC wil fly much sooner than normal and climb faster; watch your altitude, it's easy to bust through the 1000ft AGL circuit height when only 1 up as it will happen earlier in the circuit. Don't be afraid to do a go around if you're not happy with your approach to landing. Enjoy, it's a once in a lifetime event 🙂
  13. almost as much water on there as most country airstrips in Aus at the moment....🤣
  14. Back to Jacks question on lenses for flying. Can I add to the question, Polarised lenses or not? I've seen pros and cons for both.
  15. "Sitting here in the west of Melbourne waiting for the rain to stop. Wondering what the weather is like in other parts of aus. We have a nice summer in Vic. 10deg here ATM.😁" If it's any comfort, it's no better in the East, it's raining, again 🥺 When I was out at YLIL a week ago, it was hard to believe how bad it looks. I know there are places that have had it worse, but it's copped a beating with the rain, only 1 of 3 runways open and the groundsman is working overtime trying to get the other 2 back to useable condition. This weather isn't helping. Surely there can't be that much water left up in the sky, 'cause it's all down here 😵 🤣
  16. All true, but if RAAus drag their feet on this and the above is the only way to get CTA access, some will want to reduce that cost. The easiest way for me to do that is transfer my AC reg to VH, and cancel my RAAus membership and registration as it's then superfluous and no longer required. An LSA on VH reg and a Pilot with RPL basic med is going to have more privileges and less cost than an equivalent RAA member. I'm sure I'm not the only one thinking along these lines.
  17. Here is a man who is very good with numbers, I doubt there is much guesswork in your numbers RF 😉 My empirical evidence supports this: 15L/hr for circuits in the Sportstar is what I regularly see.
  18. For me CTA access isn't about landing at Class C & D airports, (why would I want to go to Moorabbin, Essendon or Bankstown etc) It's about being able to transit the airspace. ie East Sale Coffs Harbour Sydney Basin Greater Adelaide. and i'm sure there are others. These are all significant road blocks and the alternative routes either put you down really low, over tiger country or over deep water offshore, all of which create greater risk. Sometimes the alternative is to track significantly longer distances to avoid them all together.
  19. But you can guarantee that when you've almost pulled off a successful landing in the most unlikey scenario, a Kangaroo will be there to ruin your day.
  20. Agree, great job. But i bet his/her heart sank when after putting it down on a gravel road, in undulating terrain with trees, rolling out, thinking " I've pulled this off!" and then several roos come out to ruin the day!
  21. Kangaroos doing what they do best. STATUS: Under review OCCURRENCE DETAILS SUBMITTED TO RAAUS: The aircraft was tracking BAXT to YSCO at 2500 feet. Approx. 25nm south of Scone, an unusual noise developed in the aircraft and got progressively worse over a period of approx. three minutes. Power was reduced and a severe vibration commenced. A call was placed to Brisbane Centre that the aircraft was experiencing difficulties and would be immediately commencing a precautionary search and landing and an approx. position given. A quarry haul road was selected as the best option due to the terrain and proximity of a farm residence. A decent was immediately commenced with a track over the farmhouse at low level. A landing was commenced on the haul road. Once established on the ground and about 80 metres into the roll-out, several kangaroos came across the road and one or maybe two were struck by the left wing of the aircraft. This placed the aircraft into a sliding rotation and the right wing struck the embankment which resulted in the aircraft rotating further and coming to rest against the embankment at 90 degrees. This had caused the nose-wheel to collapse and the left main damaged in the table-drain. The pilot shut down all systems and exited the aircraft uninjured.
  22. After reading this thread, I'm now further enlightened at how special the Sportstar is 🤩 You pull the choke all the way out and there it stays until you push it back in. Actually, you can set it to any position and there it will stay, until further human intervention. Thanks Skip for making me like my aircraft just a little more today 😁
  23. Surely it's a Cessna....🤣
  24. You really think the US was concerned with the plight of the Kuwaiti and Iraqi people???? If so, I can see why you think Putin is concerned for the Russians in eastern Ukraine.
  25. If you think this war is about anything but oil and gas, you're kidding yourself. If Putin was genuinely concerned for the russian people in the 2 eastern states of Ukraine, he had all the military power to simply annexe them and defend them against all-comers. But that's not what has happened. He has waged a country wide annihilation of a people. The US are no better in their motives (oil and gas) when invading other countries either, but to their credit, their military precision (since Vietnam) gets it done with significantly lower collateral damage and significanlty less political and global anti-US fallout.
