  1. I recently ordered and paid for 3 items from an Australian owend online aviation shop. The following day I received an email saying they could no longer source 2 of the items and the third item had increased in price and I would have to pay more than the advertised and invoiced price. They also offered a full refund, which I accepted and provided payment details. 7 weeks later and several emails later, I haven't received my refund and they no longer answer my emails or return my phone calls. I won't name the shop just yet, as I'm still trying to work it out with them. I paid by EFT as I've dealt with them before and thought they were trustworthy, should have paid by credit card in hindsight. It's the first time I've been dudded by an online shop. Buyer beware.

RF, when you get around to getting the ally plate cut, water jet cutting gives a much better finish in that thickness.
  3. The RV kits aren't cheap, but you get what you pay for. I know someone who is building a RV14A and the kit is incredible - am I tempted, yes, because the kit just makes it look easy. The cost blow out is up to the builder, my friend is wanting a full IFR panel, he's looking at putting in $100K of avionics 😲😵💸
  4. From this article, it's not a 4 seater RV15 AOPA First Look
  5. It'll have a stall speed sub 40kts, cruise at 140knts and a payload of 200kg with full fuel and 2 POB It'll be a modern C180 Skywagon that you can build at home. What's not to like?
  6. The question is, why did the Capt put in only the minimum amount - by putting in minimum fuel he gets on the ground on time. Being cynical, with all the flack the Q have had on delays and late flights, not a bad strategy and actually saves the company money.
  7. At the current price, the engine, prop and avionics would make it a good donor for someone building a RV.
  8. Interestingly, Tyabb have just banned Helos from hover taxiing to the Avgas bowser.
  9. DA - Density Altitude POH - Pilot Operators Handbook IMO - In my opinion POV - point of view
  10. .......and people looked at me as if I was stupid when I tied my plane down at a Tyabb event - there was a Chapper parked 30m away that I could see was going to be doing engine runs. By the time I got back, the chopper was gone and the Sportstar was still there, where I had tied it down.
  11. This is a perplexing one as we all think how did this guy with 1000's of hours in top level fighters, (in an environment that drills procedures into you on the basis of if you don't follow orders/procedures, someone dies) miss so much in his preflight. It is also totally out of character by all reports. There are numerous sources that said his preflights were typically 1hr - as you would expect of someone who has had safety procedure drilled into their brain. Also numerous reports that he chastised people for doing intersection takeoffs and was never seen doing one himself - why leave all that runway behind you? Yet, he missed actually phisically moving the ailerons and elevator on his walk around, missed removing the gust lock, and missed controls free and correct. He was dead 42 minutes after his wife left the hangar and he hadn't started preflighting then. He then did an intersection takeoff! Something had him hurrying! What, we'll never know. Get theritis? I'm sure we've all missed something on a checklist, I know I have, but not so many all at once, and all related to the controls. And IBob is right, we can't let our checklists become routines that just prolong the time before we get airborne. They are there for a reason - to keep us alive.
  12. 30deg C...... just a cool summer day down here 🤣 But, 300m is short.....
  13. Agree with Nev, you don't have to reinvent the wheel. Pic is the front view of a Sportstar with the 912ULS. Top openings - air cooling for the cylinders middle - radiator lower - oil cooler. None are that large and we've never had cooling issues.

A large volume of hot exhaust gas flowing through the turbo - ie a heap of energy (heat) is now flowing through a cast iron lump, which absorbs that heat. Inside the cast iron lump is a bearing, spinining at 10,000rpm, so it needs a touch of lubrication and could do with some cooling also. So, some engine oil goes through the turbo and keeps that bearing lubricated and cool, but picks up a ton of heat energy on the way.
  15. Hi Kasper, you know what your talking about, your numbers are close! they claim a 92kWh battery pack, with a mass of 353kg. eFlyer
  16. All good Red, still current Latest eFlyer 2 Article Yes, its likely to be just hopes and dreams, but if it can do the numbers they claim and continue to improve that range, it starts getting practical - where to charge it however???
  17. Well, I'd consider my wife and I average, neither of us are skinny or short and we're 165kg combined Add to that, everyone I know who flys regularly has lost weight for the sole reason of fitting more baggage or fuel in the plane.
  18. Still around as of August last year. eFlyer Company Website 3hrs endurance @ 73knots, or 220nm range, I'm guessing range reduces at higher speeds. 204kg payload - remember, no fuel has to be added. 2 x 85kg passengers leaves 34kg for baggage.
  19. You've asked a basic question and then convoluted it to try to cause confusion. This is basic stuff straight out of the BAK, which i do think you understand, but you seem to enjoy convoluting basic concepts to cause arguments. How is that helpful to anyone? There is a word for people that do this on forums.
  20. Pick your spot first and then line up as accordingly. The wind direction has zero relevance to the amount of time you will stay up there, it only affects the distance covered.
  21. Croppies and Jump planes rarely follow the "rules" in my experience. I've had a jump plane overtake on my left on downwind. I've had a croppy cut in front on a 200ft right base (I was on a std left base)and a croppy take off with a tailwind on the same runway I was entering and lining up on, ie he took off towards us and passed overhead. To their credit, all were very good with the coms and let me know what they were doing. No experience with Tugs, but i'd guess they are under the same time pressures. On topic, the RAA reports are a bit wanting, some follow up root causes and preventative actions would be helpful.
  22. Anyway, here is some pics from the enjoyable part of my last Flight 😁
  23. Yep, that was my take away lesson. 10 minutes before last light may be legal, but smart, I'm not so sure? I would hate to be trying to find an unfamiliar grass strip 15 minutes before last light. Pic is 25 minutes before last light
  24. Yes, to err is human. I don't want to make this mistake again, can't make these mistakes often and keep getting away with it. I just wanted to share to both dissect for myself and share a lesson learnt with others. Anyway, back to our regular more enjoyable flight reports please.....😀
