Do you really think the ex GA pilot would have been flying a Thruster?Nope...it just happened to involve an aircraft that you consider to be a wannabe. Do you really think the result would have been any different if a badly constructed Drifter had hit the ferris wheel? Indeed, the public and media outcry would probably have been a lot worse if a rag and tube had hit it. I suspect that the general public perception of an average rag and tube would be of a death trap waiting to happen. You and I know that's far from the truth, but unfortunately perception is what we have to deal with, not reality.-

The Old Bar accident had "wanna be" GA written all over it...I suspect that the tightening of the rules (and more ramp checks) has little to do with RAA getting "greedy" or the advent of "wannabe GA" and a lot to do with the likes of the various revelations in the Old Bar accident report. The list of questionable things in everything from pilot training to aircraft certification was rather long. Even if they weren't directly the cause of that accident, some of them were an accident waiting to happen. If I was a CASA person my eyebrows would have been well and truly raised.Overhearing various stories at Natfly which went from how many unregistered aircraft and unlicensed pilots are flying around, to the inevitable grumbling about ramp checks, I think it's no wonder CASA are starting to rattle our cage. Take the accident at nearby Lake Hume where an unlicensed pilot flies an unregistered ultralight into controlled airspace, buzzes boats and then crashes. If that's the level of intelligence that's sharing the air with us then I, for one, don't mind there being a few more ramp checks. -
A "reinvention of GA"...exactly my point...The progression between then and now has been, in effect, a re-invention of General Aviation, but with limited weight capability so they did not compete with "real" GA aircraft.-

That thread proved nothing Turbs.
Exactly which part of the problems facing Ra today came about due to rag and tube ultralights and those that fly them...?
-
It's creative Turbs to claim this has already been shown not to be the case.
Sure...there may have been less people involved if Ra had remained as AUF but this "new" GA is not doing anybody any favours regardless of what anybody claims.
Someone should have fixed GA rather than hijack AUF.
20 years ago you could buy a proper litttle rag and tube...sure you still can today but the vast majority of pilots involved today are here because they want to fly GA bit can't afford ot.

It used to be this one.Any chance that you could tell me where this country is? -
Regardless of how well "I" have done under any government...the only mark of a succesful society is how well "WE" do...and I know without any shadow of doubt that a country that puts the needs of the many before the needs of the few is a better place to live...

Perhaps someone should tell the QPS on the job that... because they have been hassling ALL bikers...Um, you mean 'the government' is applying to bikers...You do realise that the legislation applies only to 'declared' criminal motorcycle gangs, not just 'bikers'?? Anyway, obviously a sore point, so I won't interfere with any more 'fact'! -
And that is exactly the reasoning the QPS is applying to Bikers...Fair enough, that is three officers out of eleven thousand, so I suppose your probably right, the other 10,997 are probably all dodgy too. How many other govt departments are the subject of tax payer-funded stuff ups again?-

That's 3 officers out of a few dozen in a Mackay...and that is just the stuff that has come out.
It points to a serious sickness if culture and that affects the whole organization.
-
Probably yes in regards to Police... I get a bit tired of hearing "It will be a different story when you need them"...after the thuggish actions and lack of response I have personally witnessed from the QPS in Mackay over the last 10 years... The above is just the mist recent..combined with 2 offecers charge with raping a local girl on duty and a senior officer costing the tax payers big bucks in compo after wrongfully acting in his duties... There is a big problem here and the response from QPS has been insulting to the local community.
-
I took the daughter to Hungry Jacks for dinner the other night...saw a group of "street urchins" practically hold the restaurant hostage while one of them stole a young girls phone...manager tried calling Mackay police as the kids mother was outside trying to retrieve the phone...was told they would be at least half an hour. Mother was still arguing with the QPS answering machine an hour later...
Since then every time I have been into town I have been having a serious urge to arm myself because it's quite clear the QPS doesn't respond to crime unless it's biker related.

In the eye.Or one would Tazer him about eight times.rgmwaQld Coppers wouldn't be available because they are busy arresting innocent people for having the wrong friends or hassling people with tattoos.

Why does it have to be 912 powered?Out at the hangar a couple of weeks ago, wide eyed wonderment, like a kid in a chocolate factory. At a rough guess at least 12 new drifters could be built with the parts I saw just in the hangar. However I think reality must bring us down to earth, just how much are we willing to pay for a brand new Drifter. And for long term its gotta be 912 powered. Would you pay 50 to 60 k. -
No RPT.Hello fly hiI've never been to Archerfield but its a Certified Aerodrome so I'm curious why you say no ASIC required?Kaz

These new LSAs should have GA rego on the side.
Someone should have fixed GA instead of hijacking Ra-Aus imo.
