    Can Am is a BRP product. So it's a Rotax, should be excellent. Could be a 582 replacement on Thrusters in the future.

    Good job Damien getting another one flying again. They are great fun, safe aircraft. I may or may not be be the stuart referred to above. The tiny tach works well if the rotax 582 tacho has failed. This is usually due to the resistor on the tacho coil of the stator failing.     As a somewhat experienced tail wheel pilot, I see wings level down the runway suggesting the cross wind was not that strong. Then no rudder input when it was required. There would be a fair amount of pressure flying into oshkosh.

    If the straps pulled the vertical stabilizer off there would be some marking on the paint. Is anyone actually investing this accident? Will there be a report?

    There is still very good value aircraft to be had. Last week my mate and I flew north in the RV6A to SE QLD. He is now the happy owner of an RV4 which I believe was built by rec flyers very own Yenn. Visited my old thruster flying mate who retired near Caloundra for a few nights. Flew home solo and happy.

    The like new j230's with new gen4 engines don't seem to be commanding a price that reflects the new price of jabiru and other makes. Long time aircraft market watcher.

    Aircraft appeared to be on the down wind for 29 right at Bankstown. Engine failed about were the green adsb line ends and an approach to the closest north south taxi way L was carried out successfully. No spare energy for gear or flaps.

    Hi Mark, back in 81, 82 I did 28 jumps at Collector, while a student at Canberra CAE(belconnen). I really just wanted to fly, the jumping out not so much.

    The sucker hole may have been the turbocharger, without that the dubious plan to try and fly over the weather would have been off the table from the start.

    The orange cards have been proven to be less than worthless. They only provide a false sense of security.

    I have some doubts that the fuel pump outlet was leaking. Did the elbow or hose take a hit when the engine was ejected from the airframe. The fire seems most intense at the from of engine near the fuel control unit not at the back were the fuel pump is. The fuel drain line and elbow on the fuel pump looks to be missing presumably broken off. There is a groove for the o ring on the fuel pump, open ended just like the lower seal on a cessna fuel gascolator and many others. I guess this is the oring crush type

    I tested mine in the garage with the roller door open, started the ride on, 100ppm after one minute. Started giving a reading as soon as i could smell exhaust.

    Skippy a question. Some time ago you were dead keen to get a CS prop, asking for advice etc. Now that you have one on a pretty high performance aircraft you don't seem so convinced? What has been your experience?

    I would also question the value of putting a CS propeller on a 100hp 100-120knot machine. It won't go 10knots faster like the sales person will say. 75% cruise power can be achieved with either propeller type. Trent Palmer removed the CS prop from his bush plane and went fixed, he is in the process of fitting another propeller now, also fixed and that is a turbocharged engine which should get any benefit from a CS. Fixed allows static RPM to be checked with confidence. A foolproof way to check engine health. I have a hartzell CS on the RV6A, if it ever goes bad it will be getting a fixed Catto like many other RV's have.

    No radio required Jack, sounds perfect. I guess there was 100-150 aircraft at the ultralight field last year so not super busy.

    In perfect VFR conditions with no mountains within a couple of hundred miles I once flew a Thruster T500 powered by a BMW 800 boxer coupled to a rotax C gearbox. Similar performance to a 582.

    Probably the least stressful way to fly into Oshkosh. Down low away from the madness. My Thruster flew at the Oshkosh ultralight field in 1988. It was good to go and see it last year.

    They won't say anything because the less said the better for legal reasons.

    This is the best vid I have seen this year. It will be interesting to see how this young self made guy can develop his latest acquisition. Something like this near Canberra with 200 hangars would be nice.
