That's a nice layout there Ian... :thumb_up:Here is my old one -
Gee, Victoria's flogging all of as at the moment...
-
That's great to hear BecM...
I should be doing that this Tuesday coming (landing & Taking off), so I'll see how I go with it...
Are you training in the J120?, how do you find it? I should be changing over to a 120 a bit further down the track...I'm in the Drifter at the moment, it's a Fun aircraft to fly if you ask me.
-
Well I suppose each person has his own thoughts on the situation...
Concerning the diesel frothing up bit, I don't really think that will be a very big problem... A 4wd can be jiggled around an awful lot, and not have any dramas... turbine aircraft using Jet-A1 fuel, it's basically a diesel fuel, and they don't have any trouble...
Oil filter and Oil prices are a bit higher, but then on a diesel you don't have to change the plugs every so often, so it probably works out the same... mind you it's really only the synthetic oil that cost a fortune.... but then you don't have to change it as often either.
I'm not trying to "Convert" you over to liking diesels, but I do think that a diesel engine in certain aircraft would be a way to go in the future... I'm willing to try one out in an aircraft of my own one day anyhow...
-
That's it...filters and oil, plain and simple.Get a 40 yr old diesel, put some diesel up to it, and 90% of the time it will run... Get a 40 yr old petrol, put petrol up to it, and you'll have to clean the points, plugs, maybe get some new leads, clean out the fuel jets in the carby etc...
As a diesel fitter...I'd prefer a diesel any day...
-
Internal maintenance will be similar... external maintenance is a lot easier... ie. no plugs, points, mag's... etc...Just one more thing Diesel's may last twice as long but 3rd of the maintence I doubt it. -
I'd have to agree with that as well... Cheetahs are certainly one of the nice looking aircraftBest out of all of the I reckon, love the Cheetah!! -
Hey Capt'n, very sophisticated cockpit on that lower photo...!! remember, "always go by the horizon..." it will never let you down...
-
Yeah, I reckon your pretty right there Brett...SeaKing by chance? -
Where can I get one of them...and brain.
-
Did you mean genius?

Well he could be a Guinness world record holder...:

I was thinking (while in the shower..!) what would be fun, safe, and at the same time, competitive... and I had this thought, what if you had two landing fields reasonably close by... (private one's, or somewhere you could regulate traffic), and have time trails flying from one field, then over to the next one, land and taxi around a set marker, take off and land back at the starting point...
That way you can fly at what ever height you want, test out your taxiing skills and take off and landing distances as well (times starts when the plane starts moving, to when it stops)
What do you all reckon about that...not pylon racing as such, but still would be a bunch of fun...
-
Haha, Yeah It would be great fun... but I don't want to end up killing myself in the process...Thomo, get a sense of adventure.Ozzie
500ft would be easy to cut corners, but I think there is a way around that some how...i_dunno
-
I would like to see the hight to at least 500ft, if I was a participant (I like the idea myself) I wouldn't like flying around a course at no less than 500ft...It would be fun doing it at that height, but not safe.
The height level wasn't put there to be annoying, it is the height for which you should be able to get yourself out of any serious problems.
Just my 2 cents ( + GST )

G'day Merk,
I will be doing my third lesson this Tuesday, looking forward to it alot...
The earlier the better for smoothness, I generally start at 6.00 - 6.30, mainly for the convenience of it, but it is a lot nicer when doing circuits etc...
A bit of turbulence is good though when learning to fly straight and level...it keeps you flying the thing, rather than sitting back and watching the plane fly itself.
Keep it up...
BTW, I haven't been nervous at all during my training, which was a shock in it self actually... It's just a great feeling...

Interesting Story there Doug,
Welcome along speedbird...
-
My reason to go RAAus is identical to Bretts (R461)...
-
I'm getting taught to go to about 45 degrees off the end of the runway, doing that at circuit height...(1000ft)
and rectangular circuit it is.

Or you could even just put the sheet down on some rough gravel and drive over it with something heavy... that make a goods dimples. It would be simple to cast a plate from a wax model and like they stamp coins stamp a sheet of aluminum once it was built you could let all your mates use it. just need a decent press. -
What about the wale...it's as rough as heck...but swims pretty fast.
Good discussion GFC...

Just found these plans on ebay, they end in 4hours time so if interested you have to be quick...
Cheers,

Ain't Life Just Grand....
