Nice...! Cute little craft hey?!
It's got a pretty fast roll rate ain't it...?
-
I'd have to agree with you on that one Maj....but the real sad thing is......I read the damn thing !!!...................

-
You know we could somehow intertwine it into a fly away... I know Perth is a fair distance, but over a few days and with a group of flyer's it would be awesome fun... We've got all year to contemplate on it, so what do you reckon fella's?k, is anyone interested in joining in an official group to go hangout and see it? -
The the Title pretty much sum's it up...
Was just interested to see if It's worth organizing to fly (or drive) over for the day...
Anyone been before? What's should we expect?

:thumb_up::thumb_up:Well said, Mazda :thumb_up: -
Thanks Frank,
What your saying is very true, but the reason I did write what I did is to give an overall idea for another person...
You would know yourself that it takes an average person a little longer to go solo in something like the Drifter, than it would in a Tecnam P92 or something like that...
Cheers,

And maybe more drag...?From the other side of the fence. If the smokey residue doesn't have any slow chemical reaction with the prop and break it down over time, I'd leave it as an experiment to see if the costant thin coating possibly protects the prop from little particles that cause minor marks and scratches. It would be cool knowing it gave you even 5% longer prop life.Just think about covering your wing with a thin layer of grease... not real slippery I'd reckon (wind wise I mean)]

I'm sure there would be others out there wondering the same thing I did with this issue, so I thought I'd enlighten you all to what I've found out and experienced between the two...
My first impression of the Drifter was a that it looked a little bit flimsy, but after the first flight It got me hooked and I now know they are a very tuff little machine...
And as I'm sure all the others that fly Drifters know, you really got to use rudder, a great skill I would think, also being light it gets blown around a fair bit, so you've really got to fly the thing, not just sit back and let it fly straight and level all by it self. A great thing when learning if you ask me. Although on a still day it will fly like a rock once trimmed out...
For those daunted by the out doors'y thing, after the first flight it really is quite nice to be out there in the breeze, especially in the summer I would think! I tell people its a motor bike of the air...
Now the Jabiru is still my favorite little aircraft, and I had the privilege to go for a flight in one on Sunday, J120, (the one I will be using for my Nav's etc...) Now I didn't take it off or land it, but I did have a fly of it, and after flying the Drifter and then flying the Jabiru around, it was exceedingly easy to do... very responsive and a lot faster, and it doesn't get blown around as much as the Drifter... You do notice the the visibility problem though, (well not really a problem). But compared to the Drifter where you've got a view pretty much wherever you look...;)
So If someone asks me now (if they had the choice between the two acft mentioned), I would deffenitly tell them to go the Drifter first, and then whatever next, and you will find it like going from the old manual typewriter, to the key board in front of you...;) (and yes, I speak from experience...I learn't my typing on an old manual ribbon type writer:thumb_up:) And when you move to the computer key board, all you pretty much got to watch out for is that you don't push the keys through the bench, and sweep the monitor off the table...

Have Fun:thumb_up:

Haha... Yeah well we could do with some rain here as well!! The South Eastern Qld corner hasn't really had any good rain for a long while... but it looks like we might be getting some in the next few days anyway:thumb_up:if you QLD people could spare us a bit....... -
Thanks Markendee,
Not dismissing the site at all... I love using the weather stuff on here...
But, I was more thinking of, looking out the window sort of reports... this morning is a beautiful example of it, the weather map says it's blowing a gail in Dalby (which it is) but where 40klm south of Dalby (and they use the Dalby weather map for Cecil Plains as well), and it's dead still here, not a breath of wind...
The only reason I know that is, because we were just heading into town for some more training, when the instructor called and said it's blowing mad in town... (from the South-East!) and where 40k's south and calm as can be.... quite amazing actually...
-
I just came up with this idea... for those flying from up here in South East Qld down to Avalon in the next day or so, I'm sure it would be very handy knowing what the weather is up to along the way...
So if you live on the track down to Melbourne, could just post weather reports as the day and time permits you...
Just an Idea I had...

-
along Jeff,You'll find this place a pretty good one I can guarantee you...:thumb_up:
Keep us all up to date about your progress on the training, Pic's an all...
Keep on having fun:clap:

Is it a oily residue? not just moisturized dirt, which I've noticed can sometimes happen in moist conditions...
-
That would be to simple.....Why wouldn't you get it from the Clear Prop shop and support this site  - It always has been cheaper then what they sell it for themselves

If you've got the papers proving that you've got an ASIC coming, shouldn't that help you out a bit?
Just like when your registering a car and waiting for the plates to turn up... you carry around your rego papers in that period...but you can still drive it on the road...
Not sure if it's the same with an ASIC but it wouldn't hurt ringing up CASA and finding out...
Just my 2cents worth... (Oh, Yeah... forgot to add GST, 2.2cents...)
-
I agree with Pud....:thumb_up:Whilst the numbers are astounding I'm not surprised because of the quality and content here. Well done guys.

Mark,Are you training with "Aero Dynamic Flight Academy"? I went for a flight with Alasdair (I think thats him) a couple yrs ago as a joy flight around Fraser Island...
Have fun:thumb_up:

That's true... it's done something like 90 landings in it's time, so it is still pretty new though. It was the landing before and the one before that which you didn't see that might have done the damage!Brett: My heart rate was normal because I wasn't in it:laugh: But my Mum doesn't wan't to talk about it to much for some reason... but I assured her it was all Ok unless you flip it upside down and can't get out!!

Well chaps, I just saw a lightning at Dalby today, but it does have one little flaw.....! the nose wheel decided it was did not like the tube it was attached to, and broke off on touch down...! well yeah, you can imagine what happened to the acft, nosed over, snapped a side off the prop, and broke a few other bits and pieces...
And before you all say it was a heavy landing on the front wheel... they landed the acft on its two back wheels, and then lowered the nose wheel down, and as soon as it touched the ground it departed gracefully from the aircraft... they are still investigating why it happened, but think it may have been cracked...
Anyway, the morel to the story... fly tail draggers!!!

Are you medically fit for a Class 2?
