  1. I'll just go and aaaaaggghhhhhhhThis idea won't work people, forget about it.

    Yours sincerely, The Oil Companies.

    Another one bites the dust....049_sad.gif.af5e5c0993af131d9c5bfe880fbbc2a0.gif

Those Oil Companies always get rid of good inventors:crying:051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

Ps. Thank goodness it was only meant to stir the crowd...I was starting to wonder if I should send you some basic fact books.

  2. Tuesday 3 Feb, 2nd lesson:

Pre-flighted the Drifter, refuelled; harnessed up and away we went to runway 04. Took off toward the Northern training area, climbing up to about 3500ft, where we did 30deg turns, and mucked around a bit, doing various things.

I was then told to track towards Jimbour (North-North-East) on a slight decent. I levelled off at 500ft just past Jimbour Township, and then turned and tracked to the West doing some low flying practice, looking out for good forced landing areas, did some low level turns and getting a general feel of different height levels.

I then had to do a practice forced landing approach over a paddock, gliding down without any engine power, which went well, so into the power and a climb out staying at the required 50knts for best climb to about 2200ft, levelled off for straight and level flight… after about 15mins of that I was then briefed about how a real engine failure will cause rapped lose of speed during a climb, so in for the practice, I set up at for a power on climb, which once established into the climb, Bob suddenly cut the power, to which I had to immediately lower the nose and maintain best glide speed, which in my case is 55knts. I then had to find a suitable landing spot, and head for it… once we had gotten down to 500ft, I brought the power back on for once again, a climb out to 2500ft.

I was then told to track along the creek line, tracking and keeping straight and level through all the turbulence. Which eventually brought us in sight of Dalby, located the airfield for an overflight to check the windsock direction, I then set up for downwind to 04 flying parallel to the runway, turned onto finals, and did an assisted landing, which was a great feeling to do, (mind you I probably didn’t do much, but it felt good anyway!!). I was then told to put on full power and take it off; pretty good feeling as well… did a circuit for another landing, but was a bit to high when turning onto finals. So, what the heck! Let’s go around again… we then had to wait for a crop duster to land on runway 31, after he landed, I set up on downwind again, turned on to finals, and our height was a lot better this time. It was a full stop landing, so I headed back to the hanger.

Debriefed, and then I was shown how to fill my logbook in properly; to which I can now say I have 2.30 hrs written in… Yippee!

Bob said I’m coming on very well, and I can hardly wait till next week to do more… (I’ve never known a week to go by so slowly…!)

  3. Well It's a bit of an unusual idea, but then all inventions have to start somewhere i 'spose... But, let me mention a few factors you may have trouble with:

First, I think you will have an awful lot of trouble getting enough air from your compressor to do anything that you have in mind. Compressed air is most useful under pressure...Ie, has a restriction of something, a bit like a pressure cleaner nossle....

Second, Like Motz said about the fan blowing into the sail idea, not a hope... but if your actually thinking of using the rush of air to propel you along. well then that goes back to the first difficulty....

Just a few things you may not have thought about yet....

Don't give up trying things though, because if we don't ever try new things, we'd all still be driving around on horses....;)

    Cheers

  4. if it does end up being an RA-AUS controll than it should be user pays=bigger plane bigger rego etc

Well that's a do-able thing...I don't think there would be anyone who would reject paying a bit more if you want the extra weight range, would there? and those that want to stay at 544kg can continue paying what ever the original cost.

So if your flying a Drifter with a MTOW of the 544kg or what ever it is, you pay what ever the cost, if you fly a c150 in the new 760kg weight range you pay the 760kg rate...that way people have a choice of either staying in the old weight range or moving to the new weight level...And that way all will be happy paying there own fees for your own type of aircraft whether it be 544kg or 760kg...

Ps. I myself don't have anything against the new weight change...Just think of the J230's ability now...only 2 seats but you can fill it up to it's "REAL" MTOW...;)

    Just my thoughts...

  5. My Brother and myself may be heading to Perth at the end of this month for a conference. and we thought we'd like to make it a decent sort of trip and stay around for a few days to check the place out a bit...

so what are the great attractions of this city?

    Thanks a lot.

  6. A long time ago, prior to the modern container ships, a relative of mine decided to emigrate to Oz and was wondering how to send all his house hold effects. Too many boxes, too much furniture, too little money. His solution. ... buy an old, barely running, furniture van, pack it, seal it and send it as deck cargo. Didn't matter it got salt corrosion as it was to be dumped after it was landed and driven to his new home in Perth. Every thing arrived in ship shape order and he used the van for a time before 'dumping' it.

Good idea... what about an old caravan?

  7. I had picked you as the diesel type Mike.Fossil fuels - using the past to power the future.

While where on the subject... our 4 cyl pushes out 120kw using 8.7 liters per hundred klm...025_blush.gif.9304aaf8465a2b6ab5171f41c5565775.gif and this is the hard bit to believe...'it moves nine people in the process;)

It's amazing what you can do when you blow into an engine....011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif
