  1. I was out at YMML at about 1:45 this afternoon, and spotted this aircraft near the John Holland hangars.

From the road it would have had the chain link fence completely obscuring the aircraft. So that I could frame the plane in one opening in the links as shown, I walked over to the fence and placed the front of the lens against it. This allowed me to crop the image as shown below.

Then I drove around to the other side of the airport and parked in the shade of a tree on the edge of the Melbourme Airport Golf Course to photograph planes taking off on 16. About 10 minutes later, an AFP van with lights flashing pulled up behind me and asked if it was me at the other location, and asked what I was doing there. Apparently someone reported that a person was spotted fiddling with a lock on the gate. After checking my drivers licence, rego, and looking at the images on my camera, they went on their way. I continued to photo for another half an hour or so before moving around to Church Lane to photograph landing aircraft.

  2. Breguet Br 761/763/765

The Air France aircraft had accommodation for 59 passengers on the top deck, and 48 on the lower deck, although the aircraft was capable of carrying 135 passengers in a high-density layout.[1] During 1964 Air France transferred six Br.763s to the French Air Force. The air force also acquired the three pre-production Br.761S aircraft and four new Br.765 Sahara freighter aircraft with removable cargo doors.

  3. I think this one fits the criteria - the Sud-Est SE 100. A fighter, believe it or not! Circa 1939.

"Some of these mutts flew just fine. Others barely made it into the air. But aviation would be the poorer if it didn't have engineers willing to take such risks."

  4. Correct, Geoff, although there are lots of differences between the two images. My photo is actually the R6V with a figure 8 fuselage, different tail and cockpit windows from the one in your photo. Only two R6V's were built. They were underpowered and considered too large. Here is a photo of one beside a Lockheed 12A Electra for size comparison.
