  1. A carpet snake
  2. Carbon fibre reinforced polymer (composite). Boeing B787 Dreamliner and Airbus A350 aircraft both feature a large percentage of flammable carbon fibre composite in their FAA/EASA certified aircraft….As do many modern type certificated GA and ASTM conforming LSA lighties.
  3. Can you believe that poor bloke from Canada wants to spend time on his holiday interacting with the likes of us 😳 Maybe he’ll opt for a Rhine River cruise instead. 😜
  4. What a sweet looking aircraft. 👍
  5. I’m trying to determine how “RAA” (RA-Aus) became implicated in this post, given the accident occurred in the UK as a likely result of a component made and purchased in the USA 🤔…. In any event, I was informed by my CASA Authorised Person that it was not their job to determine the airworthiness of any experimental aircraft, nor could they deny a Special CoA, even if the aircraft was built out of Clag, paddle pop sticks and Bunnings bolts. CASA will issue a AC21-4 Special Certificate of Airworthiness (Experimental) but the restrictions placed upon the aircraft as a result of their risk assessment (Test area, Phase 1 duration etc) may make it impractical.

  8. Archerfield or Redcliffe will be your best options….Then use the 50 cent trains/buses. The highway construction around Caboolture is a congestion nightmare at present. Kilcoy is a good 1-1/2h drive from Brisbane and Watts Bridge will add another 1/2h to that. Heck Field is 3/4h to 1h drive depending on time of day.
  9. I have a friend who is interested. Message sent
  10. The owner hasn’t flown for more than a decade and isn’t listed on the CoA…The two nominated test pilots on the CoA have had other priorities. 😊
  11. I guess the consultation to mandate ADSB for VFR from 2028 is government speak for “it’s coming, get ready”. I discovered an uAvionics dealer yesterday offering SE2 for $810 delivered….Should arrive Thursday
  12. I’m happy (and relieved) to report I completed a successful first flight of brand new Vans RV-9a VH-ORZ at YCAB this morning at ~08:00h. All T’s and P’s in the green.
  13. The Airservices controller on duty Sunday morning on that sector should be almost finished his remedial therapy sessions by 2028.
  14. Depends on the degree of “pucker factor” you experienced….So possibly, but unlikely.
  15. @skippydiesel have you considered adding the timber stiffeners that are used on many RV’s to reduce that movement?
  16. That attitude is soo last century, Nev. The configuration of its undercarriage has no bearing. Fluidity can mean it identifies as a passenger jet, cargo carrier or bush plane. Heck, it can even be a gyrocopter if it so chooses. Just make sure you use the correct pronouns.
  17. Time to get her in the air Mark
  18. Rubber mounts work a treat. Here’s hoping they extend the life of radiator #2.
  19. OK….Time for an update. I’ve back-ordered a genuine Rotax radiator with BF Imports. The genuine item price quoted was around $350, which is cheap compared to the item that is installed in RANS RV-12iS’s, that is around US$800. (Vans have a service bulletin on their RV-12iS that requires changes to the mounting due to many failed radiators) I’m going to mount the new one (when it arrives in a few weeks) with some vibration isolators that will go between the M6 mounting bolts and the Adel clamps attached to the engine mount.
  20. At only 132h my genuine Rotax radiator has sprung a small leak. I’m curious to know if anyone has had experience with the aftermarket alternatives that sell online for around AUD$90, or other options?
