  1. Thanks BrendAn, I'll discuss it with my current fellow first. I don't like to burn my bridges and I may need him for my cross country out of Northam in my plane.
  2. Yes that's a possibility. Like you I only have to finish my RPL and then I can at least take to the sky. It's just over 800km from here but if I can knock it off in one block that's not a problem.
  3. Well that's prospecting out of the way for a bit. This lot took three and a half weeks then we had to return for a couple of weeks on an organised tour of China. All that climbing hundreds of steps, all I could think of is I could be doing this at home and there'd be a gold nugget waiting for me at the top. This is the result of our last two and half weeks out and about. That's taken care of my training fees for a few more weeks 😅
  4. Congratulations BrendAn, I wish I could say the same. I'm a little handicapped at the moment. I've been off training for three months and now I'm having trouble getting back into it. We just got home from another couple of weeks prospecting for gold so I decided to give it another go. I called my first trainer to see if I could get back to training in the Evektor Harmony. I finished off in April with 2.4 hrs of solo on the Jabiru but I'd prefer to be in the Harmony so that I could slip into my Sportstar with very little familiarisation. I didn't do any good getting back in there because he said it's complicated. I can't fly solo from Jandakot, solo must be done in the training area further south. I guess that means he has to leave Jandakot. Next I tried my recent trainer in Esperance 1200km south but that didn't work out too well. He's given up full time training and has gone back to his trade for the next six months so he may be able to arrange something on a weekend a month or two down the track. He's talking about hiring a Foxbat to knock off my solo. I don't want another change but I don't have a lot of choices.
  5. I find some devices won't charge properly without the original Apple cable and the original certainly seems to outlast all others. The one on my Honda quad is so old that it has no plastic cover left on the cable. It's just bare metal from end to end and still works. The DC Distribution marine cigarette lighter outlet on our bus (comes with a panel of six rocker switches and circuit breakers) is now over ten years old and has a Nava twin cigarette lighter outlet hanging off it to charge the phones, ipads, headphones, detector batteries, torches etc. It's never given any trouble but the aftermarket cables are always an issue.
  6. I cant help with the feet but this might work on the calves?
  7. If you're concerned about CO2 entry could you possibly plumb radiator cooling air instead of using an exhaust shroud?
  8. Mmmm... that could slip into my Polaris microlite. My old 503 needs a rebuild before it can be reregistered. Can't do it now though because I have too many unfinished projects underway.
  9. The carburettor needle and seat controls the fuel level and therefore mixture regardless of fuel pump pressure (unless excessive). Your fuel flow measurement will be fuel consumed plus by-pass fuel that is returning to the tank. The electric fuel pump should not have any effect on engine performance or fuel mixture unless the mechanical pump is faulty.
  10. R.F.D.S. emergency air strips east to west... There may have been more if I was having a micro sleep as I passed by...
  11. Great if I was not spending weeks prospecting, then tripping to China, then a quick trip to Melbourne and Adelaide (7000km in 8 days by road towing), then a quick trip to Geraldton and back. Now I'm rebuilding the car trailer that I brought the plane home on so that it can handle the new Bobcat and a quad bike. That gold was for three and a half weeks so Mrs M wants to go straight back. I'm hoping by the time we're ready I have a POW (program of works) in place so we can operate Bob, the new Bobcat. Then I might get a chance to get back into the plane 😳. I desperately need to be able to fly.
  12. Does OzRunways list R.F.D.S. airstrips? If you ever get the chance to navigate your way across this big wide country of ours you might find it useful to have a few extra airstrips recorded just incase you need an unscheduled stop. This might be particularly useful to those navigating IFR. Each time I came across one of these I checked OzRunways but they didn't show up. Perhaps it's just the options I have set. In any case I've recorded the coordinates of each one I came across between SA and home in WA.
  13. Doesn’t anybody take responsibility for their own actions these days? We shouldn’t always have to worry about who’s going to pay when an accident happens. Accidents are just that, take responsibility for the part you played in it and move on. Lawyers love this stuff, they thrive on litigation and most of it could be avoided if we just accepted responsibility without looking for somebody to blame when things go wrong. its this sort of mindset that holds us back from just enjoying a good carefree weekend away with friends in the way that used to when growing up. How ridiculous is it that the land owner who offers his property for others to enjoy has to worry about those using it will possibly sue him for damages if they make a mistake?
  14. I'd really like one of these from Levil.
  15. Very nice, what timber did you use?
  16. First reports said the plane took off at a runway intersection so may have picked up something off the runway end damaging the engines. The report on Flightradar24 said they backtracked down the runway before takeoff using the entire length of the runway. Too much media drama thrown in to believe the initial reports.
  17. I bought originals from Evektor. The invoice showed bicycle grips.
  18. I feel for the average person living in the region. Here I am plodding across the country and enjoying the open air while they must fear being exposed to it. Now that I look at it, that's Iran that they seem to be avoiding.

  19. Yes it has to have trim tabs added to the wings but I’d consider that less of a modification than installing servos to all controls. I could ask my compliance engineer but that’s just stirring up the hornets nest. Who police’s these things?
  20. I'm a little unsure about this ADSB IN and OUT. I'd like to replace my old Bendix transponder with an approved ADSB unit. The other thing I want is Autopilot and I think a trim tab unit is the way to go, I see the iLevel AP autopilot includes ADBS-IN but what about OUT? If it satisfies my ADSB requirement as well as Autopilot then surely that's the simplest and cheapest way to go?
  21. Yes they will but they only want clean nuggets as most of these are. A lot of our gold has some rock attached so that needs to go to the Perth Mint Refinery where they pay an honest gold and silver price regardless of the way it looks.
  22. Mmm, we're going to have to work a bit longer or a bit harder. This is from the last three and a half weeks and the good wife found the majority of it 😏
  23. That looks like the switch might mount into an end plug in the tube. You could machine a little plug from a chunk of acrylic or similar or just buy an end plug for furniture tube to mount the switch into.
  24. I'm not and electronics person, good old electrics for me, that I understand however I've experienced poor earthing and inductance as the most common faults I've had to deal with. You have a plastic plane therefore everything must be return earth because the mounting points for many things are not necessarily to metal. You only need one loose earth to cause fluctuations in current flow. If you have two cables running parallel the current draw from one can upset the other. Amateur opinion here but I have delved into a few sticky little issues from time to time.
  25. Skippy, where is your fuel flow measurement coming from? It sounds like there is an intermittent bypass there allowing more fuel to return to the tank. What in the system would usually limit that return flow?
