Thanks Mal - I have gone for Vista Ultimate 64bit to make use of all the memory - now I have a copy of the 32bit version spare - any offers ;)I finally found the article, it's actually quite a good read;http://www.dansdata.com/askdan00015.htmThe short answer to your question according to the article is that if you run Vista in 32 bit mode, then yes, in fact you'll apparently loose a whole lot more than 1 gig, all of the time.

Thanks Airsick
A point of example:
Person A posts: I have been emailing John Smith for the last 2 weeks but he doesn't return my emails
Person B posts: That is not very good of John Smith being a board member - if board members don't reply then what good is it having board members
Person C posts: Thanks for letting us know and I would agree that this is not very good of our organisation
- all this happens within minutes on a live forum like this
meanwhile, John Smith, who is NOT a member of this forum, is at his airfield complaining to a friend that his PC broke down 2 weeks ago and it still isn't fixed...hmmm

:black_eye:  - what is it called now - must ask my 10 year old daughter.
Neil - apart from a hammer in my tool box I also have Sard Wonder Soap - great stuff that

Admin Comment
The statements that are being made in some of the posts in this thread are breaching on defamation and thus putting myself in jeopardy of legal action being brought against me. Whilst the administration of these forums do deny liability of the content of user's posts I would not like this to be challenged in a court of law - tying up both my time and money.
With this being said I would like to comment on the situation of the "mobile school" - being the basic subject of this thread.
The "mobile school" that was in place and subsequently sold was a "trial school" sanctioned by the RA-Aus board at that time. I believe it was documented and spelled out that it was only a trial and subject to a subsequent review as to its viability by the RA-Aus board at a later time.
The school was subsequently sold and whether there was any misrepresentation by the existing operator that it was in fact ONLY A TRIAL or lack of due diligence being undertaken by the new operator is a matter that can not be discussed here.
The trial was found by the RA-Aus board as not being successful due to discontented students which resulted in the RA-Aus board at the time ending the Trial.
When the rules on satellite schools changed I can't comment on or whether they were a result of the trial but the rules do currently state that:
1. An operator can commence a flight training facility in any location providing it is authorised to do so by the RA-Aus Operations Manager at the time.
2. To commence a flight training facility the facility must have a CFI and other requirements such as a room with adequate seating for briefings, appropriate aircraft models so as to demonstrate control surfaces etc.
3. Before a flight training facility can commence the current RA-Aus Operations Manager will visit the flight training facility to inspect that all requirements have been met.
4. The flight training facility CAN OPEN a Satellite School up to a maximum of 200 miles from the flight training facility
5. The Satellite School also needs to be approved by the current RA-Aus Operations Manager
6. For further information please refer to section 3.01 - 2 of the current AUF (RA-Aus) operations manual
I also understand that members may be discontented with the results of enquiries made to the RA-Aus board or their local representative but making comment on them here in a manner that "points a finger" must be considered by the moderators in the same context as one forum member pointing a finger on another forum member however, there will always be subject matter that IS of interest to all forum members. With this in mind I do very much sincerely request that you very carefully word your posts to a point of interest then to a point of blame. Whilst we do have some board members here at the forums and to them I am very much appreciative of their comment, but not all board members are members of this forum and therefore do not have a "right of reply" as do any other non forum member.
I would finally like to add that any forum member that has posted in this thread would like to review their post and make suitable edits, it would be very much appreciated.
Thanks!

Now that is something I wouldn't have thought of - well done!
The only thing is that the chord may be a bit wrong with the Gazelle doors in the event of a wing failure  - they open up, and as I found out the other day they can be pretty hard to close when you are flying along and the pilot's door suddenly pops open - scared the life out of me.
It turns out that whilst I checked they were secure on preflight by pushing on them, my cardigan was jammed in the out of sight pin unbeknown to me. I now have a big grease stain on my good cardigan
and learnt a lesson! -
Have you got a link to the article?
Is what you are saying if you have 4gig ram and 1gig video ram then you only have 3gig system ram left that is used for flight sim?

Flight Sim X
This is one mighty dedicated Flight Sim machine - could even log hours with it if I was a training facility. All the parts are here, the PC is built and now and I just have to build a dedicated desk in my office for it.
Also note - I have opened accounts to get all this type of equipment including new PCs at wholesale price so I will in a week or two offer new computers to all forum members at the wholesale price plus $50 for me to assemble the computer and load all the software - this is will be done through me personally and not Clear Prop so it will all be at cost.

I am really starting to like Vista and especially the new Outlook 2007 - great with RSS feeds and very fast on downloading emails
-
It was a full moon last night i_dunno
- well said Slarti -
WHAT ON EARTH IS ALL THIS STUFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My brain hurts :hittinghead: with this Windows Vista (Ultimate) and Office 2007 (Professional) - looks mighty pretty but where has everything gone

You are right, they have very cleavily disguised it all in a real graphical interface that is going to take some time to find it all. I think it would be very nice for the average user but to someone that pushs it all it is rather confusing - especially getting use to the new control panel icons, the start menu, explorer and that is just windows. I took one look at Office and close it quick smart - going to take days just to get use to Outlook
-
I have opened accounts with h/ware importers so after I have finished this build I will put together some options on new PCs for forum members just at the same cost I get the parts for direct from the suppliers including the option of having MS Flight Sim pre-installed as well - winter is coming so at least we can still fly - well sort of

-
This weekend I will be going to the dark side - Windows Vista

It seems to me that MS always seem to alternate between a good and bad release:
Windows 95 - shocking
Windows 98 - good
Windows 2k - shocking
Windows XP - great
Windows Vista - ????????
Office 95 - shocking (the forgotten version)
Office 97 - great
Office 2000 - shocking
Office 2003 - great
Office 07 - ???????
Apart from drivers is there any other things anyone can advise to look out for - oh, I will also have a new motherboard and processor (AMD 6000+) to make sure it is compatible.
Also building a super duper triple monitor dedicated Flight Sim PC with:
3 x Samsung 22" wide screen monitors
1 x Matrox TripleHeadToGo Digital monitor splitter for wrap around vision
1 x Intel E8500 2 core 3.16Ghz
4 x 1gig Corsair DDR3 ram blocks
1 x Gigabyt GA-EX38T-DQ6 motherboard (wow)
5 x Western Digital 320Gb 7,200rpm 16Mb Buffer SATA Hard Disks set in a RAID 5 configuration
1 x Dual Processor (onboard SLI) XFX PCIe 2.0 9800GX2 1GB xXx Overclocked (Black Tie version) graphics card
1 x Silverstone 750w power supply
1 x Antec 9000 gaming case
Saitek Pro Flight Rudder pedals
Saitek pro Flight Yoke System
Saitek 3 lever Throttle Quadrant
Saitek Evo Force Feedback Joystick (left/right handed)
Logitech Z5400 Digital 5.1 Sound System with THX and Dolby
This is going to be one beast of a Flight Sim PC

I have just spoken to the Shell Account Manager - Oceania Aviation Lubricants and Specialties and he has advised that this great oil has a shelf life of 4 years and most importantly it has a paper trail to ensure the oil's integrity.
He is also going to get a Technical adviser to have a look at your comments and provide more information in respect of its distribution for you to use. He is away for the next week so if you have any further questions on this product please post them here (no more PMs to me please as I don't have the answers as yet) so we can hopefully get some answers for you
-
Great to hear Bob - please keep us informed every step of the way - this will most certainly be interesting

-
I know Frank but I hope it helps others - the problem I have with all the overseas supplies is that the Clear Prop software has to have a massive amount of code modifications to support the US pricing hence why I haven't been able to put the overseas products into the shop yet. If they go in they are in Aussie Dollars which will change every day based on the exchange rate as it is the US price in US Dollars that you pay
I really want to get this site finished, to at least a point of completion before I work on the shop - Recreational Flying is the top priority
-
Clear Prop has just become an agent for Ivo - so Clear Prop can supply any of their products at the same US price - which as you have seen is way cheaper then Wade Air
-
The download facility is almost finished - funny you should mention it as this is what I have been working on for the last two days. Not only can you upload a file for everyone to download but you can also put a link to a file that is stored elsewhere on the net for others to download direct from here.
I had planned to finish it this evening but have a school meeting tonight

-
well done Mate and congratulations - welcome to the ranks

My Instructors Davey Wickham and Nathan Mueller (had to look up my log book for Davey's last name - my first lesson with Nathan I couldn't remember his first name so I put Mr. Mueller in - don't think he has ever been called Mr. before
), anyway they made me learn every word in the BAK, all chapters as they said I didn't know what questions the test would contain. They also quizzed me as we were flying to and from the training area - temp, pressure, alt and on the return, what if there was a white cross on the runway, what is that cloud called, which side of that hill could the wind be turbulent etc etc.Without getting into the old discussion of standardised training, I personally think there may be some inconsistencies in the level of training that may be given between different schools and perhaps if the school also has GA whether that has an impact.
Nevertheless, the tests for RA-Aus have been upgraded in recent times and this may play a big part in the advancement of training levels for RA-Aus Certificate but will only be evident in the most recently qualified RA-Aus pilots
-
If we take Step 1 in simplistic terms - the first 20hrs - RA-Aus Certificate vs GFPT - isn't all you need on the theory side of both is to know the BAK and on the flying side 15hrs dual and 5hrs solo?
The result is:
RA-Aus - fly 25m from home strip, no passengers
GFPT - fly 15m from home strip, allowed to take passengers
So isn't at this stage the training the same yet in GA you are allowed to take passengers but you're not allowed in RA-Aus but you can fly 10miles further away from your strip?
Step 2 next...
-
Just curious but what are the differences between the training in 25hrs RAA (cert and x-country) and 25hrs PPL (GFPT + 5hrs x-country training).
I know that there is weight and balance but I believe most RA-Aus schools are training RA-Aus to GA standards so this is included.
Can anyone let me know - thanks!

Fixed for you Nick!

Don't forget the Recreational Flying stand again next year - We are already listed for a site

Ok, now you've got me - as I now have both versions of Vista 32bit and 64bit which one should I use - all drivers I need have 64bit versions so no problem there - it is rumoured that FS11 will be 64bit only.
