  1. Time then to begin the competition for May. To win the next three editions of Australian Flying magazine for absolutely FREE, simply post your pictures or stories in this thread. The best of Aussie luck to you.

Oh, also don't forget a Caption for your image and just say if you also have another copy of the image that is:

    • jpg format

    • at least 300 dpi (dots per inch) at a usable size (say 6" x 4" or around 16 x 10 cms)

    • and if to be considered as a cover pic - in vertical format

    • aircraft(s) identified in caption

So if you win, your picture could go into Australian Flying magazine.

This should be a big month for flying, so get snapping and get the pictures into this thread for your chance to win.

AND a HUGE thanks to Australian Flying for supporting this great competition 011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif 011_clap.gif.8adfe837b4189ee6622bf4917d6a88c0.gif 011_clap.gif.c796ec930025ef6b94efb6b089d30b16.gif

  2. The Hervey Bay and Maryborough aero clubs are combining to hold the "Goodwin Field Fly-In" over the long weekend, June 7, 8 & 9 2008. It is intended to offer this as an alternative to the fly-in at Raglan on the off years now that Raglan is only held every second year.

It will be held at Goodwin Field, a private airstrip between Hervey Bay and Maryborough ( more details on the website ), so we will have no security issues to deal with. Funds raised will be split between the Royal Flying Doctors Service, Variety Club ( for kids ) and the 2 aero clubs involved.

More info can be found at www.goodwinfield.com

This as a great opportunity for forum members to get together. For a meeting point for forum members, please feel free to gather at the Hangar 1 display. We will have shade and chairs available. The location is great, no security a plus, the only catch is that it is within the Hervey Bay / Maryborough CTAF® so all aircraft will have to be radio equiped.

Please register on the website if you are coming along, we understand that weather may get in your way but we do need an idea of what numbers to expect. We would rather you register and not turn up than to turn up unexpected.

We are looking forward to meeting and / or catching up with as many forum members as possible.

  3. The main differences between the two are:

    1. The Master is faster, kit, carbon fibre and tandem seating

    2. The MCR is slower, factory built, metal and side by side seating

The other advantage of the MCR is that it can come in a purpose built trailer as the MCR wings can easily be removed by one person, trailored and then the wings refitted for flying. There is a video of it on their website.

The Master will be my own prime aircraft but the MCR I think will serve a slightly different market especially the side by side seating plus the 4 seater variant - all I need now is a good high wing aircraft and a Trike to complete the hangar ;)

  4. Many of you know I went to Europe last November on a quest to find the ultimate aircraft to bring to Australia (amongst sourcing new products for Clear Prop). The Millennium Master was the end result however, I was also looking at the MCR range of aircraft that are built in Dijon France. I went through their factory and was very impressed with how much of an aircraft the MCR was. Look here

There was a problem at the time with the representation of the MCR in Australia - a New Zealand person had the rights to the East Coast so I was offered the rights to the rest of Australia. It was evident to me that this would be a messy arrangement and whilst I could offer the MCR throughout Australia by means of opening a post office box in South Australia for people on the East Coast, I felt it wasn't the right thing to do so I just focused on the Millennium Master which was a cleaner agreement.

Dyn Aero have now come back to me and advised that they would now like to offer me the MCR rights for all of Australia.

The MCR Club for example would sell for about $130k (Euro exchange rate dependent) and what's more they have a very nice Rotax powered 4 seater (http://www.dynaero.com/lien/indexuk.htm) which would make an ideal new cheap GA trainer and then can be used for touring.

I am not sure whether to add the MCR range to the Millennium Master or not - the Master is a kit and the MCR is fly away - any comments?

  5. Ian, where do you find the time to fit all this in as well as run the site, with all the upgrades that you've been doing. Do you have some way to extend time and thus create a 48 hour day?

I can do the work of 3 people as my 3 friends are always helping me out - Caffeine, Codeine and Nicotine 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif - plus throw in a daily high dose of steroids (anti rejection drugs) and you have a cocktail that you don't need an aircraft to be able to fly. At one stage I was on 24 steroid tablets a day (they don't make them strong enough legally for less dosage) and I honestly did not close my eyes for 4 days and 3 nights and then I went 036_faint.gif.544c913aae3989c0f13fd9d3b82e4e2c.gif - please note I always know when to ground myself 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

  6. 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif - I wish although a bit hard to simulate a Thruster with that panel.

I have used Nortons Ghost in the past so I may look into that again.

I fired it up last night and found I had a faulty graphics card so I have to wait to get a replacement. I put my XFX 7900GTX card in and it booted up to adjust the bios settings so I came to the conclusion it was the new card that was faulty.

Just wondering whether I could install windows and all the updates but just not the graphics drivers to get a head start - I just want to keep it completely clean. It is very hard to take ALL the nVidia stuff off again as the nVidia uninstall doesn't remove everything.

My research so far has indicated to me that there is a lot of comments out there about windows 32 vs 64, problems with 64 etc but all these seem to be written earlier in the piece before the service packs were released. But what I can gather so far is:

    Windows 32bit versus 64bit

    - As long as you have all the updates there is no difference

    - 64bit will make use of all the ram that you have whereas 32bit is limited to about 3.5gig

    - FS11 the next version of FS may possibly only be 64bit

    - All the drivers that I need have 64bit options

Single, Duo or Quad Core Processors

    - FSX will use all available cores but will not spread the load across all channels but rather use one channel until it is full and then go to the next channel and so on

    - Addons may end up using the other channels of the processor

    DDR2 Vs DDR3*

    - The price of DDR3 has come down considerable and is not much dearer then DDR2

    - DDR3 will give you faster speeds

    - DDR3 is the future

    X48 Chipset Motherboard*

    - This is very new and not all the bugs have been ironed out yet

    - This chipset being new will be around for a few years

    * It was suggested to me to take the DDR3 Ram and the X48 Chipset Motherboard back and get a good DDR2 Motherboard and Ram as I will be able to overclock the ram and Processor but I won't be able to overclock the DDR3 Ram and the E8500 Processor. Specifically it was said:

PC2 6400 will allow you to overclock that E8500 to 3.8 Ghz, before you even start to overclock the RAM, and since DDR2 has been around for awhile, almost all of it overclocks quite nicely. My cheap 2x2 GB sticks of 400 Mhz/800 DDR2: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231122 will do 970 DDR, without raising the timings any, and with only a .1v bump of vdimm.

Now I don't know why I would not be able to overclock the DDR3 and the E8500 as in my setup, I should be able to - any comments on this?

The end result I want is to have all settings maxed out, get the best graphics for realism and at the busiest airports with AI set at say 90% to get an absolute minimum 25fps in full screen VC (the eye can not see over 25 frames per second).

Comments as always are most welcomed!
