You would need to have read the details of the original cause and I'm not going back 15 years, but there was video this week in Ukraine of a tiny electric drone like we play with coming up to a guy who's just arrived and has a stall set up in the street. He sees it and ducks around the back of his vehicle. The operator, through the drone' camera chases him round, he dodges backthe drone follows him, he dives behind the vehicle and the drone zips up behind him and the operaator fires the explosive. The stall holder was seriously wounded; if he had just stood there, he would be dead.

Thereby proving the point that ASICs are pointless. Who’s going to bother hijacking a small plane when you can just use a drone? The world moves on, but the ASIC doesn’t.

The Governments knee jerk response (ASIC for private pilots wishing to access regional airport) to Sept 11,  way back 25 years ago, was completly over the top.

This, combined with changes in technology (drones) has rendered the whole concept moot/without merit (not that it every had any)

The failure of the Federal Government to modify (remove private pilots from the requirement) this ridiculous piece of legislation is a crime against its own people ie charging for a nil service

I suspect the authorities know how ineffectual it is,  as evidenced by their farming out a security system to the commercial sector - go figure !!!

A few Hijacked commercial airliners flew into buildings Back there and hijacking took place all over the World including one here at least and I've Been through a Bomb scare on a Plane I was flying and it's NOT fun. While the ASIC should be made more 'fit for Purpose' there's not many People who are going to want any (apparent) reduction of security on and about RPT  Aircraft, anywhere.  Nev

To maintain any level of security as well as fences and ASICs you also need security patrols, say 3-4 utes driving around all operational areas during operating hours. I am yet to see this (minor) level of security at any regional airport.

At Shell Harbour we see 1 ute driving around performing maintenance tasks. That is it.

 

The level of security right now (with ASICs) is incredibility low. 

How about we stop this pointless political theatre ?

I think the best you can do is have visible security. It'll keep the honest people in order, the crooks will still find a way regardless of the barriers put in their way.

what has that got to do with asic.  do you need one if you want to attack an airport or craft with a drone.        those things are controlled from miles away
