Thruster88 Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago FR24 play back shows a RV7 and other aircraft not visible... 3
Thruster88 Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Apparently a formation flight, they would know the risks and accept them. 1 3 1
skippydiesel Posted 15 hours ago Posted 15 hours ago Strong gusty winds in the Sydney basin today - not the best conditions for any small aircraft😈 3
Blueadventures Posted 13 hours ago Author Posted 13 hours ago Being reported that the two aircraft were part of four involved in an acrobatic formation flight and were returning to land at the airfield when the collision occurred. Very sad. 1
sfGnome Posted 12 hours ago Posted 12 hours ago John Taru (who was (is?) an instructor at the Oaks) said on the ABC that one aircraft turned with the second plane turning alongside it, but a wind gust pushed one into the other. ☹️☹️ 2

onetrack Posted 11 hours ago Posted 11 hours ago This is terrible news. 2025 is going to go down as a dreadful year for light aircraft crashes in Australia. 2024 was a really bad year with 27 fatalities, 2025 must have exceeded that figure already. There were 16 fatalities from 12 crashes up to the end of July, and there have been a serious number of crashes and fatalities, since then. 1
onetrack Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago I believe this is the crashed aircraft ... https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1403532354035011 1

There were 16 fatalities from 12 crashes up to the end of July, and there have been a serious number of crashes and fatalities, since then. That's about on the mark GA aircraft; I quickly pulled ATSB figures as follows: 2010 to 2019 Average 32.3 fatalities per year. 2020 35 2021 * 2022 34 2023 * 2024 27 Late 2025 16 from 12 accidents RPT No fatalities since 2005 * Curiously in these years ATSB notates there are differences between calendar and financial years. GA causes are different to RA. The longer flights - 4 to 6 hours can see them in up to three or four different weather patterns from where they took off, and in some years there's a bulge around May of people flying into cloud. The longer trips also mean fatigue becomes a factor. Edited 1 hour ago by turboplanner 1
