I reckon if you built a new J170 from a kit and put a Rotax upfront from new (and this is not a Jabiru motor knock) the extra 20 hp would turn it into a better aircraft... and then you could fit after market brakes and not be limited by factory flap numbers... or fit the 3300 jab.
Just checked the log book and I did my first 12.5 hours in a J170 from a fairly short strip... probably much of the reason why I always reckon it could use more power. There was also talk about being able to add "turbulator" tape to the elevator to improve its feel... and I wonder how a set of Stolspeed turbulators (ala Savanah) would go on the wing?
I reckon its an aircraft with a LOT of potential... potentially? I would like to fly one again one day to see how it feels now I have the grand total of 35 odd hours under my belt... lol

And a yellow pod Pud... maybe you should get that checked out?
-
I reckon a nice red one would look great Pud...

I was just watching the news... apparently Mingaloo the white whale is near Fraser Island... Lets hope he is still heading north.

We have a chart at work (its been there for over 6 years now so would be out of date now) that lists the price of various 737 aircraft parts.... Quoted price for 1xwinglet--- $1 000 000!
-
I reckon if Casa does this... coupled with experimental "sport" aircraft... Ra-Aus could have some serious competition on their hands.

Of course... the price of an airfare to the US and back (combine it with a holiday) would be cheap insurance if you were to look at an imported aeroplane.

How much was it selling for? I have often been surprised by the price of some Pitts you see on Barnstormers... Are they worn out old hacks generally DJ or do they have plenty of sport flying left in them?Personally, I think that the older 4 cylinder Pitts models are nicer to fly than the 6 cylinder S-2B and S-2S. The newer S-1-11B and S-2C are extremely nice to fly and go well too.I saw that orange one on Barnstormers - seemed like a good deal if you liked the colour. -
Yep... But hey... He is a grown adult. As long as he doesn't hurt anybody else... I reckon controlled daring do has its place.

Oh Crap... that sucks. My condolences to the families.

Aussie airline wages (unless you are a Pilot and even then!) are down right insulting... and they have the gall to try to get it for a tenth of that overseas!!!
So which single airline in Australia still uses Australian staff for its Australian services...?

Noonsio... Contact Jean-Luc at Rainbow Beach Paragliding... -----> http://www.paraglidingrainbow.com/
I believe he has taken flying groups to Bali.

Dinner... that was an old tradition whereby families used to sit down and have a meal together in western society... largely replaced these days by a life lived on the run.

I reckon if someone could invent the 300hour plan they would be set.

I sympathize with the sentiments... For the price of importing (and then a couple of years building!!!) you can choose from a fair selection of reasonably priced aircraft ready to go...
-
Motz... that is part of his display! Honest. Is it just me or did the engine cough?...glad he's ok... -
Damn! I saw Phil do his drunken pilot display at Shute Harbour Airshow... I have been kicking myself that I didn't video it for Youtube... He certainly put on a great drunk pilot display, in my opinion the highlight of the aerobatics for me.
I hope his back injury is not too life changing... Good luck.

I wonder if you could bring one back as personal baggage? Or send it in less than $1000 lots at least to avoid some costs? Get 10 mates to order $1000 worth of aeroplane each? lol

-
DJH... when you come up with the figures for the import costs it would be interesting to see them... Just how much does it cost to import a kit from the US.
-
-
Ok... so how much in round figures does the magazine cost Ra-Aus per year?
It should be no more than the cost of postage.
-
Just the sort of machine that I reckon will fit my future flying plans. Were any of these aircraft offered as plans and homebuilt?
-
Ian... I reckon you could write your own Android app for the site... would come in very handy. Hint hint...

What I am wondering is...
Are they really rogues? Is Matt Hall a rogue because no matter which way you look at it low flying particularly at high gees is dangerous which is what Redbull is... sure its done within a strict set of guidelines I am sure but an element of danger and risk is accepted that myself and the everyday pilot would consider high.
Or... are they calculated risk takers... that suffer the statistical consequences.
