Since when have Toowoomba and Quilpie been in West Qld? lol
I guess it is West of South East Qld... but it ain't West Qld for the rest of us Queenslanders.... lol
I was expecting to see a trip report to Mount Isa or Birdsville.... lol

You know reading this only just made me remember learning to drive... from an early age (and learning to drive on an airfield) I remember a conversation about driving and feet on pedals amongst a group of pilots... it must have stuck because I have always been fastidious about not resting my feet on the pedals when driving... lolI have the same problem. I drive a manual so my left foot spends most of it's time on the foot rest. That translates to be resting my foot on the left rudder almost continually. Being aware of it is the first hurdle (you're too busy to start with to even notice what you're doing) - practise, practise, practise is the cure. -
I reckon Skyraider won! You could see the events unfolding for a second before it ate the P51 for lunch...
P.S. That was "Big Beautiful Doll"... Very sad... but very fortuntate.

WoW! was my reaction too!

Spin... it seems to me that there is a lot of these sort of stall/crash accidents and often they involve high hour pilots... it seems to me that there is something in this. I have heard that sailplane pilots found that during cable breaks aircraft were being stalled because the pilots didn't allow enough time for the airspeed to build before commencing a turn... I have wondered whether there is the possibility that taken to extremes some aircraft (and airfoils especially) could perhaps have the propensity to stall in negative G as well? Could this happen? To me it may explain why some experienced pilots despite all probability in relation to their experience and training crash? I mean negative G is not included in anyone's training generally is it?
Go ahead and tell me I am crazy.... Was just an idea...

Well done...

Its not the bank angle as such but the load the bank angle places on the wing... Stall speed increases with G force... ? Thus... unload... and be sure the wing is flying again before before moving the controls...?

I started on a J170, got the best part of my training and first solo in a Texan (still the perfect Ra-Aus aircraft in my opinion), now flying a Savanah S for Pax endo and X country Navex. 99% of my time was with one instructor but I have had check rides etc with another (to keep us both on our toes! lol)... all fairly different aircraft.
But in every aircraft if you basically do circuits at 1000 feet, trim and set power as you turn base... arrive at 500 feet on final at the correct speed... then they aren't vastly different. After a few hours it all slows down a bit and you can really break it down into its key elements I reckon.
Just a little rambling and like I say... I don't have a lot of hours but I can speak from recent experience... It was only a short while ago that I was experiencing circuit hell! lol

Maj... Do you know what comes standard in the wings of the Sav S Certified? The one I fly has long range tanks... apparently they are an option.Bubbleboy, It is common practise on our level of aircraft to use screw-clamps and rubber fuel hose. I won't use any fuel line unless it is black, from the US. I have been dissappointed with the red rubber hose, as it seems to crack the outer sheath fairly readily. If you putting fuel line in a position where it won't be easily accessable, like for instance Savannah wing-tanks, than I would definitly use US made, black rubber hose, and nothing else. All rubber hose looks good and equal when it is new. I see a lot of fuel line with years of use on it, so I am in a position to make good comparisions. It is something I take a particular interest in, and there is nothing but US made hose in my plane. If you are pushing rubber hose onto barb fittings, look for a good tight fit, but not so tight that you need to be Attula the hun to push it on. Also not so loose that you use the clamp to squeeze the rubber onto the barb to seal it. you can double clamp on lines that are pressurized by boost pumps if you have the room for two clamps. I use nothing but quality Tridon brand Stainless clamps. Do not overtighten clamps.
Fuel line leaks are a pain, and dangerous, so do your best to avoid ever having any !...remember keep it as simple as possible, for added reliability.............................................Maj...

I guess its an endorsement without a clear definition...Some instructors won't fly with them... So like you say... Two Stroke instructors are getting rare.

When the mountain won't go to Mahatma... Mahatma must go to the mountain. Travel somewhere for a few days and do your 2-stroke training. The only 2 stroke flying I did was cheaper than the new Lsa per hour... the saving should be enough to mostly cover the cost of a few days away from home.Hi Gnarly,Thanks for the suggestion but because I don't have an aerochute rating on my licence, I don't think they'll count it.-Andrew

Well blow me down! I just did a few days of Navs and I went the traditional route with that ridiculous Airservices Website!!!! Grrrr! The plain english weather along with the "Official" weather info can be accessed from the weather page in the Australian section...click the Australian flag on the site's main menu
Thanks Ian Boag for creating what sounds like an amazing bit of programming and for providing it to us for nothing... and Thanks Ian Baker for creating the link to make it all sooooo easy to use and the reminder that its been there (sort of) all along.

Mike... I saw the new hanger today as I flew by. Looking good. Was tempted to drop down for a closer look. Does the owner live on site? Whats the protocol?

Here's to the $150 Hamburger... formerly referred to as the $100 Hamburger... Nebo is the perfect location but at 35 nm or so will still need the XC endo for this one. The street the Pub is on turns into Airport Rd a few hundred up from the pub... and Airport Road has the sweetest little Airstrip... its more like a park with a BIG cricket pitch.

Can't wait to have a counter lunch there... only rule for Passengers... No Alcohol.

The name wasn't mentioned...
I think we are all susceptible to airsickness... But it seems to be something that you can train to overcome fairly easily.
Good luck with the lessons.

I only realized when I saw this thread that I met Peter at Monto and photographed his Drifter... she is the most immaculate machine.
Good luck mate and bon voyage.

There is all sorts of possibilities... I just took my first Passenger for a 40 minute local flight... Very enjoyable and this is what it is all about. I am fortunate in that the airstrip is only 20 minutes drive away so only need a couple of hours to nip out. And for $90... !!! You would be crazy not to love this...

I believe there is "A" major share holder and Singapore Airlines...

I need a Goodyear midget racer first Ian... Melbourne is a looong way at 80knots.Good onya Don...can see you travelling afar very soon now...come down to Melb for a visit  -
One local servo here sells Premium Ethanol... works out a wee bit cheaper than standard unleaded... I wouldn't put it in an aeroplane.
-
Hongie... I heard hanger talk that you are a legend in the airsick world... You are only 1 of 2 people that stopped talking... and fought back and won. lolGood to hear Jake... I was struck with the ole airsickness, it gets better... It's mainly psychological I think... If you think about it too much it will happen. Well that's the way it is with me. If it's real bad try travelcalm natural pills... Mainly ginger, so no I'll side effects.

Perhaps plan a bit better too... being at 3000 feet without even a crash landing option left for an engine failure... I am guessing he won't do that again without an ejection seat... Well done on handling the situation after it was allowed to arise.
