I've flown a J170... It scared me.

Oh for God's sake!!! Get real people... Just stick your fingers in your ears if you wan't and it should all just go away... but do it to your detriment... The growing group of pilots and instructors who are refusing to fly behind the product must all be imagining things...lolI think Maj Millard should be banned from all comment up Jab engines ! ................ nevertheless Heon - or for that matter does anyone else ...... think a Jab engine will ever be as good as a Rotax engine ?JM -

I have been watching this Youtube channel for a while now... he has a whole series of PPG for Morons skits... some are quite funny.
I have been for a Paragliding tandem flight and it was awesome... one of these for tootling around in nice weather would be great I reckon.
One of the kids took the video below while taking a tandem flight on the same day from Carlo Sandblow at Rainbow Beach... I can thoroughly recommend it.

Yes...My problem is that the original "over the air" update was on my old phone and I can't find the update now without using the pc and resetting the phone... I believe the original update was a Telstra link ?

David... Seems I am in the same boat with my out of date Android and didn't even realize... And here I was searching for the ability to move apps to the SD card (something the Froyo update allows) and thinking I was just not finding it!
Any one know how to update without the PC if your phone will not update automatically?

Just did a quick google search... looks like 2.2 is an update over the 2.1 update1 we have now... Hopefully it is available soon. I believe with the last update it took a short time until it was available downunder.
-
I am on 2.1 update 1 too...
Wasn't aware there was talk of an update???
-
Hmmm... not sure. Just try it.

Less drag and flys fine...

Good on you Darky... You will love it. Just remember with gliding its not usually just a case of turning up and flying... Spend a few days and chip in with all the hard work (well if you consider being around aviation hard work) involved in getting the machines into the air. Its also a good opportunity to dabble in some aerobatics.

Found this on E Bay... Scout MkIII Less than $1000
Anyone interested?

I agree with Farri.... what happens after the landing/arrival is not important. One step at a time... and the first step is surviving to be able to deal with the next possible scenario.

Check these out Tomo... and there are plenty of others available in Australia if you do a google search. I have been Paragliding once at Rainbow Beach and it was brilliant. A Paragliding license would cost about $2000... A PPG about $10k... add another $1000 to learn to fly the power version and you are away.
If I lived closer to Rainbow Beach I would definately be Paragliding... We have a great flying sight just inland here at Eungela but apparently its not for beginners.

Hongie... Be sure to grab a headset and some nav tools while you are at it... I certainly can't fault any thing I have bought from Ian or the service.

And... Experience and teamwork aside... incredible luck.

Flying toy ornithopters have been available for years... they don't look as nice as this one though. There is Youtube footage of hops conducted by a full size too...

How about the Cathay Pilot Scheme.... According to my relation at Cathay the money is not as good as it once was and their Union is trying to get it sorted but still worth the effort... Of course you need good school grades to get in. Interviews are held in Adelaide.

I work with a lady whose son wants to be a commercial pilot. He finished year 12 last year and is spending a year working in the family business before Mum and Dad finance his commercial license 100%. Apparently the commercial schools in SE Qld have recommended that he not do any flying (he has only been in a light aircraft once) before he goes to the full time flying "academy" or some such next year... "Don't want him to pick up any bad habits... it will just cost more more to unlearn them" is what she quoted them as saying...
Is this good advice for someone wanting a flying career or are these guys at the "Academy" just lacking in ethics and wanting to make more money???
I think I know the answer but... I have remained quite because I don't know quite what to say to her.

Congratulations Scooby.

Hey Grungle... was that you flying the 150 today at Mackay Airport?
-
Brad... the new price on a Sierra 200 is I believe just a little less than $90k... Minus $20k is still a bargain.

Very nice... Youtube Subscription added.

That is a really good link to the Stol sight...

A bit of both... I did my first 15 or so hours in a J170. I almost gave it away because of the stress of knowing I was flying it in the morning... Granted the field we were operating out of was not very long but it was mushy and wallowy on takeoff, lucky to climb at 500 fpm and required use of carby heat regularly.
The Texan and Sav S are a revelation them... I have heard it said that it is a good training aircraft- in my opinion their may be a weak case in favour for students completely new to flying... but not this little black duck. My early years were spent in wooden Kookaburra's that would make many a pilot shudder these days but compared to that Jab they were a bloody limo!
