I wouldn't be one to call the Mountain Cattlemen weak, gutless or stupid.

There are many examples where the actions of less than 5% of participants in activity, have seriously restricted that activity. This is the one that that really piss#es me off the most and I`ve been flying Ultralights since the late mid eighties! Why should everyone be penalized because of the actions of an individual? To me, this nonsense and wrong! If anyone can give me a good reason why it should be so, I`d like to have it. I would not expect that everyone to be grounded for some stupid thing that I did.Frank.
Even when no member of an organization has done anything wrong, you can have your activity banned by governments who react emotionally to pressure groups.
The Victorian Government announced just today that Cattle grazing in Victoria's High Country has been banned.....and that's the total annual income for some farmers.
While it would seem grossly unfair to us for RA aircraft to be totally banned, don't kid yourself that it can't happen if someone does the unthinkable.

This thread shows that there are some dangerously irresponsible people among us, probably taking innocent passengers up with them, and telling the passengers they're "safe"
Kaz spelled out the penalties for reckless actions when someone isn't killed or injured, so that more or less matches the statements outlining the macho "I can do what I want" theme. That covers past activities by at least one poster on the thread, and if I fund out about his actions, you can bet authorities with better equipment will be keeping a watch on him.
However, quite often these cowboys make a misjudgement, and then the real penalties kick in.
My advice? Treat these big noters like lepers.

Well that's democracy for you; we've reached the point where the other 9,999 members don't count. In letters to the editor in our last mag there was at least one letter venting frustration turbs, so no it doesn't decide the issue:wink: -
Very interesting that the people who are arguing to retain the magazine are reading the posts and putting up their arguments here, on line, ADSL or not, but not in the magazine they're arguing for.
Sort of decides the issue doesn't it.

I went on face book, didn't like it, and now I can't stop the email messages every few hours saying someone did something. I have tried to unsubscribe and remove it to no avail. Approach face book with caution.
As others have said, it's just a matter of adjusting the settings for the security you want. I get no emails and don't know how you would be getting emails generated by FB. Maybe you put your email up on FB instead of using the FB message system. Better to keep emails to your real friends. If you are frustrated by daily doses of a dozen pictures of your friend's baby's achievements over the past 24 hours you can "hide all" from the video/cafe/etc ads they posts, "Hide All" from them which is not notified to them, or "Unfriend" them. In each case the unwanted material immediately stops. If unsure Google "how do I stop ....[the problem] and you'll usually get several pieces of advice.

The Dad's Army can kick and dance, but paper is on the way out.
This is a sore point for me as my great great great great grandfather, George Bertram invented the roller method of making paper, and sold paper making machinery around the world. Bertrams Ltd closed down in 1986.

As you point out Col if no resolutions have been made since October the Association has been in suspension since then, and that should be of great concern to members.I understand that no "Resolutions" have been made since October and those have been reported. I also understand that a number of "Decisions" have been made but not reported explicitly. What the difference is between a "Resolution" and a "Decision" is I can only guess but I don't think we will find it in the ACT Incorporated Associations Act.A magazine is a good place to report board and association business but the news cycle is over in 24hours. The proper place for decisions is on the website where we can see what was proposed, those for and against and the final resolution (decision taken) in the matter. It would also be nice if the action sheet was posted to see if anything is being done with these resolutions eg "Set up a Constitution review panel" agreed - progress? None, the (then) board decided that it was all too difficult.Maybe the board members have been busily making decisions, and these will all show up as resolutions very soon, and count for something , or maybe the wheel has turned back to 2010. Either way it's not a very good look.

We had about 800 Stewards, and while they, like the Sporting Shooters had the advantage of specific venues, the majority of actions don't originate with the Steward. All were volunteers, so there was no additional cost.So...for comparison sakes......your Stewards, did they observe Australia wide or just at specified racetracks.......Im pretty sure the latter in which case how would you identify and prosecute someone doing something wrong away from the track.....I imagine you would have relied on the police for that......In what way are we any different? If we take the specific example in this post and for argument sake say that he flew from his own land (and I have no idea if that's true or not) then in your scenario how would the stewards have identified in advance the miscreant? If people and/or CASA want RAAus to strictly enforce then your funding structure for RAAus will need to change dramatically......either members will pay extra in their membership costs, or CASA will have to fund us better than they are funding us at present......We are now in the 9th month of the financial year and have exactly $0 from CASA sofar this year....There is work apparently on both sides...but I can only speak to ourside, to get the Deed of Agreement in place. From my perspective CASA is getting a hell of a deal for $0 of funding!!! When and if its finalised for this FY there cant be too many obligations in it cause there will only be a month or so to achieve the inevitable raising of the bar that occurs year to yearAndy
RAA would not be expected to cover every caravan park and lake every day, but many repeat offenders are well known in the local area and a tribunal doesn't have to work to the same level of proof to a Court.
As to RAA not receiving money, that's an Admon issue, the Deed is an Annual formality which sounds out of control and neither impinge on something which should have been proposed, seconded and voted on years ago.

Very simple FH, IO had Chief Stewards who observed behaviour, rule compliance etc and issued penalties which might be a month, six months, year suspension etc, so justice was administered swiftly. Then there was a Tribunal where an aggrieved person could appeal against the stewards decision. The process was transparent and there was natural justice all withing the Incorporation. RAA just haven't bothered to set it up.

I agree dangerous operation has nothing to do with registration; my point was that just because an aircraft is unregistered it does not remove it from a self administering body if that body is charged with administering that specification and type of activity.

In short, Yes.So RAA should administer unregistered aircraft too??The focus was brought by the fact people, inc RAA admin, werent abiding by or overseeing the existing regs adequately. The police can charge you with reckless conduct if you are driving an unregistered car in a paddock - more or less the same issue as that aircraft. They can also breathalise you.

That's what the smart alecs said at the time pm, and maybe part of it worked, but nobody was fooled about what the aircraft was and what body should have been administering it.
I personally feel that this incident may have played a part in the four CASA Audits and the draconian focus on aircraft photos and signage.

Don't be led astray by the inventive rhetoric. I suspect there will be egg on a lot of whining faces when it's all over. I haven't seen any evidence of CASA playing games
-
This just tells me that you really don't know what this is all about Oscar, and that you haven't read the posts by people who have been patiently trying to explain the background. The response that CASA 'has more information than they have told at this stage' is pretty clearly intended to obfuscate the situation and there is absolutely no rationale by which that statement could be taken to be an affirmation that the action that was taken is correct, reasonable or even justified-

..........good manners start at home.
Some people may have seen Turbo deep in conversation with a CASA person at Avalon this year. We're not saying who it was, but think Multiple Audits, picking on Jet Junior etc.
It had started innocently enough with Turbo admitting that one WreckAv pilot had been seen chasing geese.
"That indicates to me he is mentally unfit to fly" replied Mr X, and Turbo was put in the position of a squirming defence of Hatso.
"He really is............."

Went down yesterday, Friday.G'day Tink.I was down there Thursday for the day. When did you go?
Regards Geoff
Lara turnoff access was great, no traffic congestion, plenty of food, toilets, no traffic congestion on the way out, AAA rating for the show now.
Spent most of my time with the RAAF being told not to touch anything.
Some more photos attached.
