  1. I read a small article in the paper on Wednesday. Wow! Sorry I don't have more details. He is a pilot from Merimbula - if I remember correctly - and he is flying "around the world in 70 days". Or something like that. It showed his route/track from Oz to America via all the small islands. 7 hours flying over water! Yikes!
  2. (sorry for long quote) Go to my gallery and there are piccies of Oshkosh 2011 and my heli' flight over the event. You may need to check with Ian where my gallery is. I just tried to find it and include a link but can't find it.
  3. You don't need an international licence - sorry for spelling brain dead. An Oz licence works.
  4. Ummmm.... From what I heard a Virgin 737 from Brisbane to Adelaide had to divert due to fog. Landed at Mildura without incident. Hardly an emergency. Although they were low on fuel when they landed. Awkward if they had to divert from there... Brisbane, Melbourne..... Which?
  5. I'm not having a go at the pilots. I also understand the mechanics of running the busiess and fuel vs pax. But "today" with the tech' we have. They are getting close and the weather is not good. It wouldn't be that they have descended from their FL to "suddenly" find the fog. They divert. As said: No big deal. But by then, there should be systems in place to get them to a suitable airport without any fiasco. Yes, descending and climbing out does use the juice. But as it was a comercial airport, wouldn't the people on the ground advise the plane that minimums are not being met and advise them to go to an alternate? Hey, I'm just asking.
  6. Yeah, but it would - to me - raise questions: BNE - Adelaide. Mildura is EN-ROUTE! If they were low of fuel there....... Ok, maybe they had to turn back. All the same: Aren't comercial flights supposed to have enough fuel for viable diversion?
  7. Sorry, but sketchy details. I am at work and heard on the radio something about a commercial plane doing an emergency landing at..... (south west NSW) because they were low on fuel. I think someone's working days are numbered.
  8. Ok, quickly indulging the idea "they" need to contact the tower. They can't/the tower doesn't answer. After only a couple of tries, "they" should have called Melbourne traffic control and advised them. Obviously I am really missing something.
  9. Yeah, so the people "controlling" it... (or more so in this case NOT controlling it). But I am still not seeing where/how the tower comes in to the equation. They - the people (not) controlling it - would/should have aviation radios and the like. So if they "lost control" of it, they can just as easily broadcast a warning to pilots in the area. I'll go and put my head in the hole where it has been for a while now.
  10. Um, Ok, so if a pilot sees it why couldn't he alert other planes in the area? If the "blimp" is heading for CTA, go to the area frequency and advice "centre" of the risk? That pilot would have the best concept of what is going on rather than telling a thrid party to get something done. Is it we are becoming like the americans and can't actually do things ourselves unless we are directed to?
  11. Ok, the village idiot here..... How does being able to contact the "tower" benefit anyone when a "runaway aircraft" is the problem? Be it manned or otherwise?
  12. I heard it is still happening.
  13. I have actually got one of those "doo dads" which plug into the computer's USB port and I get LIVE flight data. As I live near YSSY it is quite good when I have time to use it.
  14. Yeah, I kinda regretted asking after the fact. Seems I am "not with it".
  15. Do you have a better/higher res version? I printed it but it is too small and if I enlarge it it won't be clear. Thanks in advnce.
  16. It is not fair how people are "taken" like that. I have flown with him and I shall miss him.
  17. Facthunter, it is a spoken joke rather than written. I would have thought that was obvious. But you know what thought did.
  18. I've just read a few of Phil's posts. Funny. One of the stories reminded me of this quaint fact I heard: Most men are bi-sexual. Have you met a man who hasn't paid for sex?
  19. Thanks. Now I need a bit of info about parking........ If I am a day tripper, I know where the parking is from a couple of years back. But if I am staying overnight, is it different? I would have a lot of stuff to get out of the plane and don't want to have to walk halfway around the field to get to/from the plane.
  20. What can I say?
  21. I may be going. Still not sure though. If anyone can help though, couple of questions: What time is the show supposed to start? Need to know for latest arrival time. What time does it end and I leave? Just in case I am only a day tripper.
  22. Yeah, but I'll leave it now to ACMA. I don't want to have launched an attack only to rescind it shortly there after. I have had a LOT of problems with this site. The idea of posting was - as stated - to warm people of the danger of going there and giving them your details. They don't respect you telling them to get you off their list.
  23. Ian, Sorry that wasn't meant as a "put down". Just I remember reading someone (maybe you) saying something about something. (7600) Allowing people to add events to the "list" with dates/locations is THEIR responsibility. It shouldn't fall on you to keep it up to date. Like that, it looks after itself and it lightens your workload not having to administer things. There shouldn't be ONE PERSON responsible. I guess a bit like the 'net. Each person puts in their part. If one person goofs, then no big. But if ONE person is responsible, and they goof, everyone suffers.
  24. Ian, I think your "system" that is here is quite adaquate. The site I am mentioning is hap-hazard and not kept up to date - despite what people may say. You said someone needs to take it on and handle it all, etc. Honestly, what is here is very good, as it is self controlling. People post things with upcoming events and dates. The more notice the better, but it seems to work. So I would ask: Why change it?
