  1. Thanks JEM, perhaps we should point John Barnden towards ERSA so that he can work out what the left hand has been up to (right hand)
  2. YWOL is already security controlled and currently requires an ASIC. Details of the security status of airports can be found in ERSA. For YWOL see note 2. under remarks. Presumably, some owners are using the ASIC as a security tool for their assets regardless of RPT activity
  3. My comment was about the average member of RAA. Almost every member of the board was/is unknown to to the vast majority of members. I know of Frank, I have read his contributions over the years with interest but generally, as I said, I am more familiar with a bar of soap, despite any good work that Frank and the others have done (and the bad is probably well hidden)
  4. Same old, same old. Unless you were in Tasmania or maybe NT there was a good chance that you were more familiar with a bar of soap than your were with any of the candidates or board members. Can you work out what the individuals on the board have done since corporatisation. Could we work out what they were doing before?
  5. That is the point Bill. The high cost of access to CTR is a disincentive for quite a few. Consider flying around Nowra, or Coffs Harbour or Gold Coast and Brisbane. The need to have a CASA Licence and a class 2 medical drives the price of flying Rec Australian in these areas to intolerable heights. So much for low cost flying.
  6. "FCL"? And for the rest - will respect BUT!
  7. Yes you can, if you also hold a CASA Licence with CTA privileges. Birddog should talk to his CFI who bears some responsibility in training him about operations in the middle of Mil Space (I presume Nowra)
  8. "Treated as Class C" is indicative of the level of equipment required on the aircraft eg at least a VHF radio and transponder. There are also personal requirement on the PIC to enter other than E or G space, usually a CASA Licence with a CTR Endorsement.
  9. [MAP] I don't see a problem in facilitating voting by all who are entitled to vote. Given the delays inside Australia Post it is not unreasonable for RAA, within the rules, to extend the time of closing of the ballot to ensure that all those who might miss out because of delays don't. In times past a time 7 days after postage was indicative of receipt - I read here that some people are still waiting for ballot papers.. my preference is to enfranchise people, not disenfranchise them. [/MAP]
  10. If you get thrown out it will be because of unorthodox spelling, rotten grammar and atrocious punctuation - we are still trying to work out if you have brought anything or anyone into disrespute!!
  11. Obviously Roger Henning has never applied for an ASIC.
  12. You could always make a suggestion as to the electoral method you might like. Personally I favour the multiple preferential which provides for the two or three directors not hated by the majority. I suspect that the method to be used to count the votes in this election is first past the post which only delivers directors supported by power blocks and may deliver directors not favoured by the majority. Send your suggestions to the Michaels and Don. AEC has a model for this. The problem with incorporation under any Act involves a default position of putting bad law into company (or association) rules.
  13. Or by buying a sausage you shouldn't expect a steak. The only way to get a steak is to buy a steak
  14. Not really. Some of these people are entirely self educated or learned it from mates why copy an inept politician when you can screw over the world on your own.
  15. Correct, but most RAA planes and low end GA use Kollsman type altimeters. Not sure about GA but I am sure/ certain that a lot of RAA planes could do with a recalibration of even the simplest type as suggested by the Kollsman link. It isn't rocket science!!!
  16. Maybe your non aviation friends have been reading the Daily Telegraph/ Courier Mail or listening to Ray Hadley/Alan Jones. There are some dud mechanics out there whose work has given Jaribu a bad name. Maybe RAA/CASA should also indicate the owner and L2/LAME in their reports.
  17. Try this to calibrate your altimeter, if you know your altitude and local pressure Adjusting the Kollsman Altimeter
  18. Exactly what is it that a director of a business is supposed to do - and how do you enforce it.
  19. Government is entirely different. There are whole groups of journalists running the ruler over every politician and their proposals. Business is different, no body is watching what the directors are doing behind closed doors and very little is said about director performance for fear of libel suits. Among directors you will find the greatest range of unhung bastards screwing over the lowly shareholders, members and employees. Despite ASIC directors can and do get away with murder.
  20. Do you have a vested interest in the sale or operation of drones?
  21. The previous administration and their employees left a couple of bombs in the cupboard. The current admin is doing a pretty good job. I would vote for the 2retiring directors (if I get some ballot paperback)
  22. It is first past the post, the way most entities run elections. You could suggest a better way and have it put as a special resolution. RAA is much better than a lot of organisations where the only notice calling for nominations is buried among the sex shop ads in the Bridport edition of the Launceston Advertiser. In one organisation that I am in the only resolutions entertained are for the removal of directors - otherwise the business is run by the board in secret cabal. The shareholders are treated as unwashed scum and camped out with the mushrooms.
  23. But it is much cheaper to get the RAA XC than an RPL XC. So RPC with XC to fly the plane AND an RPL (or higher) with Controlled airspace endo to get you into controlled airspace. You won't need an RPL XC endo.
  24. You need an RPC to fly the RAA plane and an RAA XC to fly it more than 25nm AND you will need the RPL with airspace to get you into the Camden airspace.
  25. You will need the RPC XC endo to fly the plane more than 25nm. You will need an RPL with Controlled airspace to get into Camden (controlled) airspace (the last 2 miles)
