  1. Which "something worse" are you referring to? For example Col
  2. Mr Nev, words of sage advice but could you reference the microstring that you are referring to. Cheers, Col
  3. Perhaps the 10% are a fair sample of the RAAus membership. If 90% voted we might end up with a travesty instead.
  4. Farm appliances on GPS levelled broad acres can achieve efficiencies as they can maintain long distances at optimum efficiencies but when you brake, slow down, turn corners and rev up through the gears you drop out of the efficient range of ICEs. Planes achieve efficiencies by adopting a low fuel rate in cruise at a constant altitude.
  5. Diesel Electric combo's are optimised for the diesel to run at an optimum speed, which is much more efficient that the speed up slow down 18 gears of a prime mover (or farm appliance). I wouldn't imagine that a diesel gen set is any less efficient than a diesel motor - although Turbs might have some stats. Most modern trains are diesel electric rather than pure diesel.
  6. NewsCorpse has a flying squad that creates stories on slow news days or special events. They hold up banks, create traffic congestion, drive by shootings - any thing, anywhere is their motto. In all likelihood this story was a NewsCorpse set up and was filtered out to the ABC and Ben Fordam to attempt authenticity.
  7. I'm surprised that the Murdoch press would get snippy about a product of one of Rupert's heroes, Elon Musk.
  8. Interesting! I thought that the EFB got its own location info from the Tablet rather than from the SE2 and that the SE2 only used its internal GPS and barro to transmit the SE2 location info. The tablet is much faster syncing, usually because it is always on but the SE2 needs to sync when turned on.
  9. It appears that IOR is calling its unleaded petrol AvPULP. AvPULP: Paving the Way for A Greener Future - IOR | Fuelling Australia WWW.IOR.COM.AU In the 1920s, Thomas Midgley Jr., a 30-year-old industrial chemist, introduced tetraethyllead into motor spirit to combat... It is possible that a number of users at YSCN will own VH aircraft that have had the conversion to lead free or will take the opportunity to convert. When one is out in the boonies it is sometimes difficult to get AvGas and it is significantly cheaper to refuel with MOGAS, PULP or AvPULP (choose your poison)
  10. I suspect that the outline means that mogas is not available so I'm not sure how accurate the price is.
  11. IOR has just installed a Mogas facility at Camden.
  12. You forgot this one - the way people would vote if there were only 2 parties Two-Party Preferred Mar. 2-8, 2026 Mar. 9-15, 2026 Mar. 16-22, 2026 Mar. 23-29, 2026 Change % % % % % ALP 54.5 54 52.5 56.5 +4% L-NP 45.5 46 47.5 43.5 -4% TOTAL 100 100 100 100
  13. Recent polling would indicate that the current government is the least hated and that the LNP and ON are on the nose.
  14. I think Gena has also hopped onto the subsidies.
  15. 8. What an absolutely stupid comment! The Liberal and Country Parties have been equally remiss in their treatment of liquid fuels to the extent that they gave away LPG and, in his swansong, Taylor gifted our fuel reserves to the USofA (try getting that back from Trump) and shut down refineries. "Don't vote, for fucking Labor" might be a better slogan or even better would -
  16. They also said that about horses and slaves.
  17. I'm not sure about Majors Creek to Moruya, it is very rugged, I have been that way once and asked myself "what am I doing here? This is scarey" less scarey (a bit less scarey) is Braidwood to Batemans Bay then down the coast.
  18. Around about page 141 of the Part91 MOS
  19. Weipa is 8 til 6 Mon to Fri. Coen is daylight with 2h prior notice. A friend was fuel constrained so he took some bladders and refuelled at one of the local strips (rated for RFDS) without leaving airside.
  20. I was of the understanding that Skip has a working (?) Mode S Trig transponder with an ADSB-Out capability as well as an SE2. There is some ADSB reception and some MLAT but we dont know the source - Trig or SE2. There is also a callsigns of 1200, 19-2041 and 2041 in the mix. The only way to remove this is to turn off the transmit function of SE2 so that there is only one source of ADSB info being captured.
  21. Is it an SK2 or SE2? There is a CASA Publication AC 91-23 about ADS-B https://www.casa.gov.au/sites/default/files/2021-08/advisory-circular-91-23-ads-b-enhancing-situational-awareness.pdf That is worth a read. A o g other things it says you can run a transponder and an ADSB-Out at the same time but only if there is only one GPS positional source. So if you have mode S transponder with an a time ASDB-Out source you can't run an SE2 transmitting ADSB-Out info. I would chat to the RAAus Techman as well.
  22. 1. You need to read the Australian addendum https://uavionix.com/wp-content/uploads/dlm_uploads/2024/12/SkyEcho-2-Australia-Addendum-to-User-and-Installation-Guide-REV-A.pdf 2. If your mode S transponder is transmitting ADSB (ADSB-Out) you need to disable the SE2 transmit function. 3. Maybe you should go flying with the SE2 turned off - no output or input - to see what ATC, Flight Aware and FR24 see you as, without SE2 interfering. 4. Even though the SE2 transmit function should be disabled when the Smode transponder is transmitting ADSB-out you should set up the SE2 with the Hex code the same your transponder Hex code 7CBC63, your rego R2041 (drop the "19-" and add an "R" for recreational) and "1200" as the default sqark code - you dont need to change this as ATC ignores EC devices like SE2. From Air Services https://www.airservicesaustralia.com/wp-content/uploads/FAQ_ADS-B_DEC16.pdf "What should I enter for Flight ID (FLTID)? You should enter EXACTLY the same characters as used in field 7 (callsign) of the Flight Notification. If you have not lodged a flight notification you should enter your registration (without the VH-). Correct use of Flight ID and other important information about transponder use is given in the AIP, Enroute, ENR 1.6 paragraph 7.1.9. Additional information is also available at: http://www.airservicesaustralia.com/wp-content/uploads/Correct_Entry_of_FLTID.pdf Are there particular Flight ID requirements for RAAus aircraft? RAAus aircraft not operating under a flight notification should set their Flight ID to Rxxxx – where xxxx are the last 4 digits of the registration mark. For example, an aircraft registered 24-1234 should set the Flight ID to R1234 (the R standing for “recreational”). How can I tell if the Flight ID is correct? There is usually a transponder control capability in the cockpit that allows entry and readout of the Flight ID. Please consult your aircraft’s Flight Manual Supplement, Operations Manual and/or the equipment handbook. Why do I still need a transponder squawk code if I have set the Flight ID? Current ATC systems still require the four-digit transponder codes. Even in Europe where Flight ID is mandatory, aircraft squawk a discrete Mode A code in most areas. It is an objective to remove the requirement for a discrete four-digit transponder code, but that cannot be pursued without upgrading existing ground systems and while Mode A/C transponders remain in use.
  23. Was that you hanging around on the cross strip at about 9:30ish this morning. I'll make a point of bringing my SE2 next time.
  24. An FR24 screenshot - a C182 detected at Jandakot detected using MLAT ie no ADSB Out.
  25. Quite a few aircraft in the training area DON'T have ADSB Out as it is expensive to add and most of the old GA trainers have old Mode A, C or S with no provision to upgrade to ADSB Out. The owners may upgrade when their current transponder dies or ADSB Out is mandated - ADSB Out isn't mandated for Day VFR or RAAus (yet). Aircraft without ADSB Out are captured to FR24 (and others) by MLAT (or other tech)
