    I took Skippy's advice and went for Gates hose but I just searched automotive catalogues for the best shape. I bought a few different ones because none of mine are straight. Every hose just had to have something cut off for a perfect fit.

    A derogatory term for a LAME I believe 😄 In some slang contexts, "laim" can be an offensive term, often used to describe something as dull, uninteresting, or awkward, according to Dictionary.com. This is often a shortened and potentially derogatory form of the word "lame".

    James Fisher did respond on Thursday with quite a long voice mail. He's able to supply a pretty good package including the iLevel AP for autopilot and ADSB-IN and then a Trig transponder for ADSB-OUT. I'm not too sure how they work the government rebate. It's available for both ADSB-IN and ADSB-OUT however I don't know if you can get both, if so then I need to purchase these items separately (two invoices). There's a $5000 limit but is that per invoice/ADSB? I just paid something over $800 for instrument calibration and that would have to be done again. I was counting on filling that spare 90mm hole in the dash however neither one of these comes with and attitude indicator and artificial horizon. I was mistaken in thinking the iLevel came with this. It's the Super ECO autopilot that will work with the iLevel but seems like a double up and another $4000 and not eligible for the rebate.

    Some companies seem to ignore requests made on their website. Last week I saw that Level Aviation had a Oshkosh special running on the Level Autopilot (includes ADSB) so I looked up the Australian agent Swish Projects in Victoria. I sent them an onsite request for the basic unit plus some accessories. It's now Wednesday with no sign of a response.

    I think this is a very big video. I left the site but the video eventually fired up in the background. If you need to upload a big video it can be easily resized in the free app Handbrake. I can alter a GB to a few hundred MB's in minutes without losing any noticeable quality.

    Very interesting Skippy. I was sitting in bed last night preparing a route from Cue to Northam. I can't fly it but I will drive it and do various calculations as I travel just as an effort to further understand OzRunways. While I was at it I turned on traffic and saw none. It was the middle of the night so I thought it may be possible but then I went to Flightradar at there they were. Right now I only have five aircraft in all of Australia.

    How about that couple sitting at the caravan park in Emerald dreaming of seeing the Carnarvon National Park from the air but all they have is a 4WD?

    Yes OzRunways says 250km drive but the Emerald is the closest place to hire a car. We've been there but it was a 4500km drive. I'm getting ready to head down to Northam to visit my plane. I'm digging through the shed to see if I can find a 12v solar panel to look after the battery. I intend to start it and do a few laps back and forth just to keep everything working. I can't fly because I haven't found a trainer with the time to take me onboard.

    Just as well they had a spare 11,000 ft to sort it out. Even though they had plenty of elevation they exceeded the maximum speed and load on the aircraft while in a vertical dive.

    I think a partly built kit like this is a great way to go but if I was to take on a project like this I'd need to have a time slot to knock it off real quick. Too many things like this never get completed in time to enjoy them.

    As Burnie says, the RAAus online course is free and not specific to any model as L1 does not give you the authority to do in-depth engine repairs. You can do this course to allow you to maintain your aircraft legally using the manufacturers service procedures. You are supposed to get your RPL first but mine went through. The message came back that the L1 endorsement would by applied to my RPL certificate. https://members.raa.asn.au/learning/l1-maintenance-authority/ Under member training.

    The Bustard is a very big bird. We were stranded on the flooded Roper River about 50 years ago. Four of us ate one for four days and there was still a lot of meat left but with no refrigeration we decided to throw it away. I had one hit the LandCruiser windscreen in 1987 and punched it in about 130mm. We had lots of small cuts and shards of glass in the back seat of my new dual cab.

    I doubt you'd have time to activate the horn. I had what looked like a magpie avoid me while in the circuit at Jandakot. It missed the canopy by a couple of metres and went over the wing in the Harmony. I never had time to react but the bird was swerving wildly. All I saw was wings and legs and my instructor said "that was close".

    Thanks BrendAn, I'll discuss it with my current fellow first. I don't like to burn my bridges and I may need him for my cross country out of Northam in my plane.

    Yes that's a possibility. Like you I only have to finish my RPL and then I can at least take to the sky. It's just over 800km from here but if I can knock it off in one block that's not a problem.

    Well that's prospecting out of the way for a bit. This lot took three and a half weeks then we had to return for a couple of weeks on an organised tour of China. All that climbing hundreds of steps, all I could think of is I could be doing this at home and there'd be a gold nugget waiting for me at the top. This is the result of our last two and half weeks out and about. That's taken care of my training fees for a few more weeks 😅

    Congratulations BrendAn, I wish I could say the same. I'm a little handicapped at the moment. I've been off training for three months and now I'm having trouble getting back into it. We just got home from another couple of weeks prospecting for gold so I decided to give it another go. I called my first trainer to see if I could get back to training in the Evektor Harmony. I finished off in April with 2.4 hrs of solo on the Jabiru but I'd prefer to be in the Harmony so that I could slip into my Sportstar with very little familiarisation. I didn't do any good getting back in there because he said it's complicated. I can't fly solo from Jandakot, solo must be done in the training area further south. I guess that means he has to leave Jandakot. Next I tried my recent trainer in Esperance 1200km south but that didn't work out too well. He's given up full time training and has gone back to his trade for the next six months so he may be able to arrange something on a weekend a month or two down the track. He's talking about hiring a Foxbat to knock off my solo. I don't want another change but I don't have a lot of choices.

    I find some devices won't charge properly without the original Apple cable and the original certainly seems to outlast all others. The one on my Honda quad is so old that it has no plastic cover left on the cable. It's just bare metal from end to end and still works. The DC Distribution marine cigarette lighter outlet on our bus (comes with a panel of six rocker switches and circuit breakers) is now over ten years old and has a Nava twin cigarette lighter outlet hanging off it to charge the phones, ipads, headphones, detector batteries, torches etc. It's never given any trouble but the aftermarket cables are always an issue.
