  1. I challenge whether a properly maintained Rotax912 has a higher failure rate than say an O320.
  2. Yes, it will stop the coffee tasting funny.
  3. The main requirement for DRA used to be carriage of a HF radio.
  4. Still on the gold mining theme, a super sucker can lift big lumps of broken rock up to 120 meters from a shaft. That’s why your prop can lift bits of gravel half a metre or so from a taxiway if you don’t keep moving.
  5. I had a 912 engine without a carb heater and it never needed it. My present plane has one and it has been needed a couple of times, quite effective. But it has no effect on RPM during a run up.
  6. The bird thing is important. I put rubber seal strips on the edges of the doors.
  7. That’s one of the most flared landings I have seen.
  8. If you lose your ASI fly crosswind and final at the usual speed in the usual configuration. If the attitude is right you should see a rate of descent of about 500 fpm. If not, adjust.
  9. Never have grabbed a beaver.
  10. Skyrangers have been making some interesting trips!
  11. I you can’t do it, Jerry can.
  12. Finnegan' wake was wake turbulence.😀
  13. If you can sit in a drone then it is not a drone it is an aircraft.
  14. We have a lot of motards around here.
  15. Headline here - Pilot Dies in Horror Crash. What is a Horror Crash, and how is it worse than a regular crash?
  16. Agreed. They are not pilots. I think pilot somehow means out in front, leading, like pilot whales or the pilots who bring ships into harbour.
  17. He was a great contributor here.
  18. My wife gets that alarm every time she chops wood.
  19. They are designed to fail under excessive vibration, but it is hard to understand. A dead engine would fall away, but one producing thrust will go ahead and then back into the aircraft, as has happened I other cases.
  20. Hope they don’t do virtual repairs on real aircraft.
  21. Another traumatised pilot looking for closure.
  22. Yeah, I have never understood what a forward slip is. And yes, I have read lots about it. You cross the controls, and the aircraft increases its rate of descent. It travels in a direction that you can decide. I have been doing that forever, it is a sideslip. I can go in whatever direction I choose.
  23. I had forgotten it was the Firefly, with VTOL in the wings and rocket propulsion. One of my favourite authors as a nine year old or so.
  24. Who remembers Simon Black and his fan in wing?
