  1. I did mine a couple of weeks ago. The declaration covers the usual stuff: Any impairments that would stop you getting a car licence Have you failed a class 1 or 2 previously Heart disease/conditions Neurological disorders Mental health Medications It's all done through the MyCASA portal
  2. Class 5 = Do a 1 hour online course with assessment questions at the end, complete online declaration on the MyCASA portal, pay $10 and you are done.
  3. Skip, I was pleasantly surprised by the cost to insure my Mustang II, especially as a low hour pilot. I called around and got a few quotes and they where all pretty similar - I wasn't a SAAA member when I took out the policy Transfer fee was $130 under CASA - $15 cheaper than RAA. Will be interested to see what annual rego costs come in at You would have to do the SAAA Maintenance Procedures Course ($550) as an owner builder. Once Part 43 comes in that applies to owners, not just owner builders (Looking forward to this) Class 5 medical under CASA is self declared and costs $10 ( I have recently done this) I would have looked at Class G for the Mustang II but I think RAA made a large mistake by not allowing maintenance privileges under Class G Pretty sure there is little financial benefit if any, unless you rely completely on the RAA liability insurance and don't bother with hull insurance. I self insure my cheap planes
  4. I'm looking in to moving my RAAus plane to VH experimental, haven't progressed too far down the rabbit hole yet but I will share what I find
  5. Amber are out, I think it officially transfers back to the Balas at the end of July. I think they are looking for someone to take on the restaurant lease and start it up again
  6. It was very much run in to the ground by Amber. Was a pretty sad sight driving past and seeing the windsocks in tatters and no activity. The Balas family built the facility originally and have taken back control as the site was not being looked after to the standard they expected
  7. Tooradin is about to revert back to being run by the original owners now that Amber Aviation's lease is up. They have a listing on PlaneSales. https://www.planesales.com.au/details/Listing/Property/12702/Property-Buildings-For-Lease-Tooradin-Airfield?utm_source=ListingID-12702&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=Property - Buildings For Lease Tooradin Airfield Get on to Kent about some hangar space. I am pretty sure they haven plenty available. They are looking to revive Tooradin after the years of neglect at the hands of the previous lease holder, pretty sure their new fee structure is similar to Tyabb. They have a new website as well https://www.tooradinairfield.com/
  8. RAAF training Mon - Fri, part of R360. Given the PC-21 lands quicker than most RAAus aircraft fly it's probably deemed the easiest way to minimise the risks
  9. That is some scary footage. Props to the paraglider pilot for deploying her reserve so quickly, lucky the plane only hit her chute and not her.
  10. There is a lot of things wrong with the current drone regulations in Australia, the above is one of them Hopefully there will be some significant changes in not too distant future to bring Australia's once world leading regulations up to date
  11. My last parts inquiry with Floods took ~7 days for a response, was quietly surprised with the pricing too, ended up being the cheapest price I got on some 582 carb manifolds
  12. Hope that stall speed is a typo or that's a very narrow flight envelope 😉
  13. This is a good one Skip, you certainly have me scratching my head. Where does the return enter the header tank? if it is in the top it could be aerating the fuel, I had a fuel aeration issues on one of my race cars that was fixed by returning in to the bottom of the surge tank instead of the top. If it where my aircraft the next steps I would take is to confirm the fuel pressure and flow readings are accurate. I would be calibrating the fuel pressure gauge using a syringe with the required weights and using a graduated cylinder to calibrate the fuel flow sensors. I would also confirm the one way valve in the pump bypass is operating as intended.
  14. Skip, I spent years in R&D, testing and manufacturing as a small engine specialist. I enjoy this type of challenge. If the one way valve on the bypass is not closing fully you could be getting reverse flow through the bypass circuit. Is your fuel pressure sensor inline or dead head style? Have you tried cracking the fitting on the fuel pressure sensor when it is pressurised (preferably without getting a face full of fuel) to see if there is air in the line? If there is, the air being compressible, could give you false fuel pressure readings. As the pressure sensor is the highest point in the fuel system if I understand your description correctly, any air bubbles could be expected to rise to the pressure sensor. How are the internal fuel tank pickups connected to the external fuel lines?
  15. From your first post it sounds like the issues are not necessarily related. First issue being the low fuel pressure warning which triggers you switching the boost pump on which solves the low fuel pressure issue. The second issue is a decrease in indicated fuel flow rate when the boost pump is activated. Do you use the boost pump in any other flight modes, ie landing or take off, or do you only use the boost pump when you get the low fuel pressure warning? If you don't get the low fuel pressure warning and switch the boost pump on do you still get the reduced indicated fuel flow? Does the boost pump bypass have a one way valve? If it does could this be staying partially open allowing the pump to recirculate fuel?
  16. Are you sure the fuel pressure sensor is accurate? I spent ages chasing a boost issue on an engine only to find out the boost pressure sensor was randomly giving an incorrect reading. 90% of the time it worked fine, the other 10% it was borked. Only managed to find it by data logging the sensor output
  17. Just because you believe it to be the truth does not make it so. The useful information you provide is negated when you go off on your delusional political tangent talking about Trumps "Dealings and Putin Loving" You are the reason the conversation took this path, no one else mentioned American politics
  18. It's not having a go at you, it's calling you out for your hypocritical response when you regularly make irrelevant political comments. It's pretty offensive that you disrespect the people involved in this horrible accident by using it to project your personal opinion of Trump then make excuses about it being an example as if that makes it alright. Have some respect for the people directly affected by this tragedy
  19. It's pretty sad that a post about a tragic accident is twisted to an irrelevant political commentary. It detracts from the forum and is disrespectful to the pilots who died, their family and friends left behind and the people injured on the ground.
  20. I tend to disagree with that quote, Airservices is already working on their version of a solution (right or wrong) to incorporate unmanned aircraft in to civilian airspace. From what I have seen they are leaning heavily towards the "positive separation" model as opposed to the "detect and avoid" Airservices have released all the abbreviations, FIMS (Flight Information Management System) is being developed at the moment to tie their UTM (UAS (Uncrewed Aerial System) Traffic Management)system into their "OneSky". Which to quote Airservices is "the most complex transformation of air traffic management in Australian aviation history. It’s a partnership between Airservices and the Department of Defence, replacing existing air traffic management systems with an advanced integrated system known as the Civil Military Air Traffic Management System (CMATS)" Surely all these changes will result in a smooth integration of uncrewed and crewed aircraft with no teething problems or confusion🙄
  21. I don't know why they didn't just buy one of the conversion kits available to convert aircraft to unmanned
  22. Didn't stop the 17yo with a shotgun at Avalon
  23. Used to get the same when I lived near Moorabbin. I'd get some funny looks when I asked if they had noticed the airport was there before they moved in to the area
  24. Winds don't even need to be that strong. We had one blow over on our airfield because the owner hadn't staked it properly, winds where ~60kmh. Lucky it was empty at the time and didn't hit anyone else's aircraft or hangars.
  25. It's a 15mx12m Allshelter. Will fit a 172 just. Australian made. It runs canvas loops along the bottom of the cover with nb40 steel tubes through them with slots for ratchet straps every 1.5m. The support frame is staked to the ground with 2m star pickets on alternate angles and has 4 x 205L drums full of concrete on the base plates to hold it down. There is a few on our airfield, the Australian made ones seem to get a couple more years life than the Chinese ones but cost 4 -5 times the price.
