  1. .....long overdue av ref. however that high T tail thingy by Piper is more commonly known as a Traumahawk.....
  2. I suspect that the problem is that you are used to a fair bit of inertia which light stuff does not have. Light slippery aircraft require accuracy and comparatively quicker reflexes.
  3. Tail low but not a full stall landing. A three pointer is achieved when the plane stalls at the same time as it touches down. Not always happens like that though and control is at minimum due to speed. A wheeler is done at higher speed and uses lots more runway also very prone to bounce. Semi wheeler is still a wheeler landing but at minimum speed so does not use much different runway length than a three pointer. The process requires release of some back stick immediately on touch down which will pin it and stop the bounce from happening. The advantage is the tail is higher getting more rudder control also the slight extra speed gives more aileron control.
  4. Semi wheeler is not difficult at all, in fact I think it is the safest way to land a taildragger. I also think too much brake too early, not enough back stick.
  5. And talk to Ian, he actually tests these products and so knows what works.
  6. .....any one driving a D6 or larger.....
  7. Dirty oil is not the same as the sludge build up. The sludge is largely products of combustion and contaminates not burnt. When you look at the combustion chamber of an old inefficient engine it is no wonder that pollution is so bad. The rings did not seal resulting in blowby. The oil has a big job to do.
  8. Most of that grey paste like sludge was because of the lead in the fuel. Old in efficient engines do not burn all the fuel and so lots of pollution and oil contamination.
  9. ......the sim speaker came to life and announced "please make the control in the mid position otherwise death and serious injury will occurs" .....
  10. Or they plan to sell head gaskets, which the 912 does not have. Hence the fact that a 912 has never had a head gasket fault
  11. The reason for water cooled heads and not cylinders is because most of the heat is generated in the head.
  12. ......these CFA volunteers complain and winge when we let them work 18 hour days for no payment with old sub standard equipment. Don't they realize we have their best interests at heart ........
  13. .......turned to look at the 35 year old CFA fire truck struggling by as he heard the polly voice in the radio rabbiting on about all the new trucks the Vic guvmnt had bought ......
  14. I had an interesting conversation with a bloke that knew of some poor bloke that had a blown head gasket on his Rotax 912 and was stuck in the middle of now where. My comment was that it did not happen. There has never been a recorded case of a 912 blowing a head gasket. When quizzed how I could know that I pointed out that a 912 does not have head gaskets.
  15. .......the gun safe, meanwhile someone said he is not dead. CT replied he bloody well will be when I'm finished with him.......
  16. .....all the unwise men now sleep peacefully forever......
  17. ......the joint Russia Ukraine project came to light. Sending tank turrets into orbit around Mars......
  18. .....outburst from the Jabiru people saying you can't land here. It is not a real engine failure, just a pilot problem.......
  19. ...... failure to understand that hollow point magnums must be the halal way of humane extermination ......
  20. ...... movement in the grass and saw the pointy ears of a couple of foxes ..... Note the grass was not the Griffith NSW type of grass.
  21. I use the headsets that came with the CT. They are not ANR but do not need to be, no I didn't try Ian's units. Can't remember the make of mine and am away at the moment so cannot check. I also have DC 13.4's Peltor's and a Bose ANR to play with but don't bother because there is no need. The CT is a bit like a fridge. It is white. Open the door the light comes on. If you are cold select more heat, if you are hot select more cool. It just quietly does it's job so no need to change anything just add fuel and service.
  22. Unfortunately I can't comment on the performance of any of these units but Ian can. He did all the testing and I did the flying.
  23. Ian did test several headsets in flight in my aircraft. Also tested phone connect capability and so on. He went to a fair bit of effort to make sure his product is up to scratch.
  24. If you think a Jab stall is a bit aggressive go try a Piper tomahawk, they don't call them a trauma hawk for nothing. I haven't got lots of hours on Jab's but I find it difficult to understand it going fully inverted. My experience is that they will drop a wing fairly quickly but if you step on rudder to stop the yaw all is good. Perhaps someone with heaps of time on these will chime in with more info.
  25. I agree Nev, most people believe what their speedo says but it rarely accurate.
