  1. i know of several people that have got rid of the Lowrance for various reasons. Jab do the Avmap but i presume then that jab only offer the Avmap with certain panels but it is expensive for the big screen compared to the cheaper 296 with the smaller screen. Ian McPherson here in the forums had 2 Lowrance's (plane and car) and got rid of them for the Avmap in his Tecnam

  2. This is really wird - there were 3 domains on the old VPS and all use the same name server ns1.jackaroo.com.au and I changed the IP address for the name server and 2 out of the 3 sites are all working ok but the Australian Flying site is still showing a default server page and hasn't come over yet like the other two sites - I told you...Australian Flying got lost somewhere but Jackaroo.com.au and Thruster Support Group were both able to follow instructions - darn GA types 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

  3. Well it hasn't fallen over it is just walking from one server over to another and has lost the directions 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

We have Rec Flying hosted on one server that is using Shared hosting. We went all out and paid over $1,800 for a new server that is a Virtual Private Server (VPS) so the sites will be extremely fast.

Australian Flying was created on the new VPS server

After lengthy and in-depth discussions between myself and the entire technical team (i.e. slarti - so don't pick on him in the Never Ending Story) an executive decision was made to move to another hosting provider that offered an even better VPS server.

So I am using Australian Flying as the test case and moving it over from the 1st VPS server at my current Hosting Company to the new VPS server at the new Hosting Company and as I said the site must have taken a wrong turn so I am out looking for it - if you see it going by then please yell HOY!!! - get over to the new server NOW!!!

  4. And thanks for your last post Ian. This thread, and these forums as a whole, have been a real pleasure.

    Regards Geoff

What do you mean when you say have BEEN a real pleasure :;)4: - you are staying around inbetween your flights aren't you Cap't

  5. We will get you there Cap't - and I will say that it is not you but us that owe you an enormous amount of gratitude for allowing us to be with you throughout this great build - you have kept us informed every step of the way, the highs, the lows and the exciting times that we believe lay ahead of you - thank YOU for letting us in to your shed with you!

  6. Ok all, seeing we have a zillion pages about an aircraft on a conveyor belt I thought I would start a never ending story.

It goes like this...every one adds a post that adds a bit to the story but at the end of their post they always leave it with an opening for the next post to continue it on.

Lets see how many pages of posts we can get creating the never ending story and have a laugh as we go - oh, it has to be about flying as well

    The start....

After a long night morning finally came with the sun breaking through the window as Mr Ford Prefect (also known as Jabiru Joe) woke to suddenly find that....

    Hi Ian,

Thank you everyone at The Recreational Flying Forum for sending flowers to George's funeral. Thanks to your member Riley as he has logged me in to send this message.

The funeral was a happy one as funerals go, and a great DVD was put together by a digital artist, (George was also a Digital Artist along with a million other things). The DVD was footage from 20 years ago when he flew his beloved Pitts in Sywell England.

He also flew his first J3, his Stinson 108 and his Jodel he had back in 1990, along with a Sopwith Triplane, which his log book records 16 flights. It makes me laugh to see the first entry of the Sopwith dated 30/4/90 which he has entered in the comments SWEAT & FEAR!!!!!!!!!

Today our beloved J3 came home to its hangar in Bindoon after sitting in a hangar in Northam since Georges death. Claude a 70 yr old French man flew it beautifully home. This is the first time George's Jodel and Cub have got together. It was a squeeze but worked out in the end.

George gave me the wonderful experience of flight when I accompanied him from Riddles Creek to York WA in the J3 in June 2005. It was an amazing adventure and is with me for the rest of my life. I miss George so much, his humour especially and can only stand on the ground amongst the two planes and saviour our flight for the moment. He brought the Jodel to teach me to fly, so with or without him I have decided to get my pilots license.

Today is the first day I have read his tributes. It was so good to read the words of kindness from all the members.

Once again, thank you for the flowers.

    His wife Debra Logan.

  8. Indeed Ian. And don't forget, seatbelt low and tight to avoid your bum leaving the seat.

ooohhh...that happened to me going up to natfly 2 years ago - first time my father had gone for a fly in a light aircraft as well - we were flying along at about 4,000ft, clear blue sky, a bit warm and no wind. Just going along merrily when all of a sudden BANG...everything in the cockpit hit the roof...pens, pencils, my peppermints, flight plan, the ersa...everything, and if we were not strapped in tight we would have broken our necks with the force we would have hit the roof with. Scared the living ... out of me - I looked over at my father and smiled and just said a minor bit of turbulence dad...then turned my head forward but my eyes went down just to make sure there wasn't a wet patch in my pants

  9. I originally posted the thread here because the 'other' forum is still pretty quiet. Perhaps every on 'this' side can post their replies on the 'other' side and help liven up the new site? It is probably are more appropriate place to discuss this anyway and might help Ian get it all going a little quicker.

I am hoping to confirm soon that the new site will be supported by:

    1. the Australian Flying Magazine - just waiting for their web developer to come back from holidays to discuss some kind of integration

    2. AOPA - hoping to get Board approval

I will then create a forum within the new site for each of these identities plus subscription and membership links to both of them.

With the new site supported by both of them then I expect a lot of traffic coming into the new site so posting there at the moment will only help to show any new comers how great the site is.

  10. Unfortunately Luisa and Curzio are not here in Australia YET but Luisa is registered on the forums and no doubt Luisa is translating for Curzio - Luisa, if you are reading this then please note that a shiny new Millennium Master would look very nice down here at the moment  - but only when both of you are completely happy with her!

  11. Hi All

Just wanted to say that Curzio and Luisa - the owners of the company that have designed are manufacturing the Millennium master are now members of the forum - Curzio the Millennium Guru through Luisa I am sure would like to hear your thoughts about their incredible aircraft the Millennium Master Project.

    So speak up here!
