OUR PRECIOUS CHILD
Our precious child of innocent grace,
You make this world a better place,
Our lives have never been the same
Since the long awaited day you came.
We thought our hearts knew how to love,
But what you’ve brought is from above,
A special gift that knows no bounds,
The love of a parent for their child.
It’s that of a father
With his fierce, loving pride
In this child he created
And his wonder can’t hide.
It’s that of a mother
And her fierce, gentle love,
So protective she’d die
For this child of her love.
And so my sweet child
With your quaint little ways,
May God keep you safely
Through the passing days.

Welcome to the world Mr. TechMan 2 - born yesterday and all are doing well!
Flowers etc sent on behalf of all the Recreational Flying Forum Members!

Update...it seems that nature isn't as fast as the staff of RA-Aus (i.e. the great speed that they get our certificates out to us) but I believe that it will be a lot shorter then getting an ASIC

I'm trying...I'm trying

Rumour has it that a certain technical person that may or may not be referred to here as Techman ;) was last seen in a sudden mad rush leaving the RA-Aus office in a mad panic on Wednesday. It is believed that his last contact in this sane world that he will leave behind was from his partner requesting his presence at the hospital for a pending birth.
All attempts to confirm this rumour have been met with closed lips as the person in question has not been seen of again and thus is not available for comment.
More on this breaking story as it comes to hand!
and now for the weather.....

Great to hear Marzi - Curzio and Luisa are fantastic people that are so very much dedicated to their incredible aircraft.
Luisa was telling me that Curzio built his first wing many years ago by using the skins off umbrellas - this started his life in aviation.

I use to be in civil construction (roads, drainage etc) and although I can't remember the costs back then but do know it is not the actual bitumen that costs the most but rather the earthworks and types of courses, or basecourses that you use. There are several different ways to do it and it depends on the substructure you want. Some types of Base Course is very cheap and you would use crushed salamander as the cheapest. Transporting it in is the higher cost then the actual material. After that you may choose to use a sub course of crushed rock - I forget its actual name but it has a type of glue, bituminous material or hardening compound. The top course would be bitumen and again there are different types - layed, sprayed etc. Don't go for the cheaper Sprayed type or else aircraft owners will complain about prop chips.
It is a big subject and there are many different ways of doing it that will have an impact on the future maintenance costs of the strip not to mention proper drainage.
The best strip surface I have seen has been Wangaratta - absolutely beautifully laid and materials used

Merv
I would have to sort of agree with the moderation inconsistency but sometimes I and the other moderators just get tied up with other things and I don't get time to jump in as early as I like but I generally always do get around to it.
re the Camden thread - I did jump in although a bit late - in fact a member was suspended for a couple of days.
There was another thread that you started and I guess you didn't even see one post made in that thread as it was deleted very quickly.
Remember it is hard to see consistency in moderation when posts are moderated so quickly at times that people never even get to see posts that are deleted or edited so perhaps there is a degree of consistency (not in terms of time) but no one ever sees it - because it is moderated ;)
But remember, none of us like having to moderate posts - I hate it and would much rather it wasn't needed and also whilst a person may not be offended by a statement, someone else reading the post sees a statement and gets the impression that these forums are not that friendly after all - and that Merv I am sure you would agree is not a good reflection on these forums
-
Sorry guys but I am getting a bit concerned with some statements that are being made in some posts.
There is absolutely no need what so ever to use statements in a post against another person. Statements like:
get of the grass
you are kidding yourself!
WILL NOT BE TOLERATED HERE!!!!
All they do is rub people up the wrong way - everyone knows that these forums are heavily moderated to keep everything friendly yet there are a few that continually do not know how to make a post without some way degrading another person just because they disagree with them.
Try using statements like:
xxx I am sorry but I don't agree....
xxx in my opinion...
A 1 week suspension is very simple to apply - it is just a click by the Administrator

Neil, the Gazelle is waiting to go to Ballarat for Decca so I don't think she will mind
Pete, that's exactly what goes through my mind when I look at her - now I have to start on the process of getting her allowed to fly here - if only jet engines were allowed then we could have some fun

-
There is a lesson for us guys to learn from this:
Go to your local hardware store and buy some steel wool and get back home and do some house work but note that this comes with a warning - make sure you have enough money left to buy fuel for the plane as you will get to go flying a lot more

Well done Ozzie in helping out your fellow man

-
Here is some more photos of the Prototype No 2 doing some more testing - the problem now is that the entire region is now covered in snow so testing has halted for a little while however they have started on the 5 Beta planes which I will get one as soon as possible to put it through its user acceptance testing (assembly, manuals, Aust certification process etc) - I am desperately trying to get it for Narromine at Easter - it may not be allowed to fly then but at least it can be viewed
-
The problem in the CT came down to simply the BNC connector - see this thread http://www.recreationalflying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4449
It took a radio man months to try and find the problem - even replaced the radio until JetBoy here made the BNC suggestion

Tony (and others) - I had thought that an indicator of whether it was worth doing was a 40% yes out of a 75 votes in the poll. It was slightly below 40% at the time I hit a snag in the coding so I shelved it for a while and went on to developing the form for the standardised listing of an item for sale in the "Anything Aviation For Sale" forum. A couple of days work has gone into it so far and I am hitting a problem with the mail server when sending an email, receiving is working great. I will have a look further into the emailing facility over the next couple of days to resolve the issue and monitor the poll result.
As I was developing the for sale form I suddenly thought what about an ebay type of auction system where a member could not only just list an item for sale that has a "Buy Now" option but could also auction an item off with a reserve price.
Anyway here are some screen shots of the work done over the last 3 days in the test version of the forums that I have.
What the email system will look like in your "My Settings" - not completed with graphics yet

OH MAN I'M TIRED!
A man was sick and tired of going to work every day while his wife stayed home.
He wanted her to see what he went through so he prayed:
'Dear Lord: I go to work every day and put in 8 hours while my wife merely stays at home. I want her to know what I go through, so please allow her body to switch with mine for a day. Amen.'
God, in his infinite wisdom, granted the man's wish.
The next morning, sure enough, the man awoke as a woman. -
He arose, cooked breakfast for his mate, awakened the kids, set out their school clothes, fed them breakfast, packed their lunches, drove them to school, came home and picked up the dry cleaning, took it to the cleaners and stopped at the bank to make a deposit, went grocery shopping,
then drove home to put away the groceries, paid the bills and balanced the check book.
He cleaned the cat's litter box and bathed the dog.
Then it was already 1P.M. and he hurried to make the beds, do the laundry, vacuum, dust, and sweep and Mop the kitchen floor.
Ran to the school to pick up the kids and got into an argument with them on the way home.
Set out milk and cookies and got the kids organized to do their homework, then set up the ironing board and watched TV while he did the ironing.
At 4:30 he began peeling potatoes and washing vegetables for salad, breaded the pork chops and snapped fresh beans for supper.
After supper, he cleaned the kitchen, ran the dishwasher, folded laundry, bathed the kids, and put them to bed.
At 9 P.M. he was exhausted and, though his daily chores weren't finished, he went to bed where he was expected to make love, which he managed to get through without complaint.
The next morning , he awoke and immediately knelt by the bed and said:
'Lord , I don't know what I was thinking. I was so wrong to envy my wife's being able to stay home all day. Please, oh! oh! please, let us trade back.'
The Lord, in his infinite wisdom, replied:
'My son, I feel you have learned your lesson and I will be happy to change things back to the way they were. You'll just have to wait nine months though. You got pregnant last night.'

Good suggestion Darren but that is why I set up the Aircraft Knowledge base - perhaps that is a forum that could be used for that sort of thing.

Hi All
Here is a poll to see if you would like your own Recreational Flying email address. Having your own rec flying email address tells other people that you send an email to that not only are you a member of the Recreational Flying community but also you are a "trusted" member by those that know about Recreational Flying - by trusted I mean that your identity has been ascertained by myself as Admin and only by myself through your forum registration details as you do actually exist and not some pseudo named forum user.
The address you will have will be your [email protected]
So if there is a desire to have one then please vote in the poll.
-
We have a member of these forums that is the flight sim writer for Australian Flying - perhaps he might but in and advise.
Oh, and have a very merry Christmas  - now get off your PC and go and enjoy yourself unless offcourse you got a new aircraft for Chrissy

-
Biggles, I use a Saitek EVO Force Feedback. The reason is that this joystick is easily used by unscrewing and turning the hand rest for left hand use. This means that as most ultralights are controlled by the left hand you get a better feel for what it is like - just my thoughts!
-
Paul, it goes without saying that flowers will be sent to George's funeral also I am trying to find out when the funeral will be so that maybe we can be represented to pay our respects.

Hi Chris
There is a member of the forums here that purchased an Avmap for his Jab and got me to send it straight to the Jabiru factory for mounting so it can be done but I suppose it all depends on the panel choice and other instruments that you have.
