  1. There are vast areas where many of us would like to get to for that break away from the rat race of the world however, many of these places are not easily accessed by flying our aircraft with a lot of this due to the many closures of airfields around our great country.

An option that seems to be less restricted by the availability of places to land though is flying an amphibian aircraft which has the luxury of being able to land not only on a hard surfaced airstrip, but also on the vast number of lakes, rivers, inlets, bays etc.

So, out of curiosity, would flying/learning to fly an amphibian aircraft be of any interest to you?

  2. Hi All

I have added some extra formatting options for you to be able to use in your posts if you find you would like to enhance your posts. The formatting uses what is called "BBcode" and all the different BBcodes you can use in your posts can be found under the Help menu -> BB Codes:

    http://www.recreationalflying.com/help/bb-codes

    1. The ability to float an attached image to either the left or right of your post and have your post text wrap around the image:

[floatl]1402572195_Logo100.gif.a470db47c7b4c878e3a120013be23aca.gif[/floatl]Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.

    2. The Spoiler BBcode that allows you if say for example you ask a question and you want to hide the answer until a user wants to know it you can use the Spoiler tag:

"If an aircraft was on a conveyor belt, would it be able to take off?"

[spoiler=SPOILER!]The answer my friend, is blowing in the wind...

I will be adding many more little formatting tools (BBcodes) as we go so to find out what is available for you to spruce up your posts a little, if you feel the urge to, then keep an eye on the BBcodes list in the site "Help" section.

  3. Hi All

I have just added a new function to the site that enables you to invite your friends to join in with you here at Aircraft Pilots.

If everyone invited just 5 people that they know in aviation, imagine how great the community here would be, how enormous the information exchange would be between thousands of recreational aviators and how much more interesting topics will begin to pop up in the forums for you to join in to.

The system is accessed by going to either your "Settings" or from the drop down box when you click your user name on the right of the main menu:

    1.jpg.c4d1d2d0866d70f671cbc71b9dd46b5d.jpg

On the "Invite New User" screen that appears, all you need to do is enter the email address of a person and click "Invite". An email is sent to the person with the following text:

    ---start email---

    Hi,

has invited you to join in with them on Aircraft Pilots.

You won't believe what is available for us all and completely FREE like...

    - Thousands of recreational aviators all helping each other on everything to do with our flying

    - Photo Gallery on all types of aircraft and users flying adventures

    - Great Videos to watch

    - A fantastic Video Chat Room so we can get together and chat any time

    - Great helpful tutorials on all aspects and in the sciences of flying to help us to answer any technical question we have and to improve our flying skills

    - All the flying Clubs and Schools that we can fly to

    - Bargains in the on-line Pilot Shop...it helps to keep this great resource free for us

    - The latest aviation news as it is happening

    - All the aviation events that are coming up for us to attend

    - Extremely comprehensive Aviation and Plain English Weather reports

    - and much more...I am on there so come and join in...and what's incredible is that it's ALL FREE

You can use the following link to register and start using the site: http://www.recreationalflying.com/register/?c=589f2a0fa9a61fed

and will see you there on Aircraft Pilots

    ---end email---

The invite stays open for 14 days and you can view the status of your invite as well:

    2.jpg.be92027064dd83abc88cdbc413100c07.jpg

When your invited guest registers here, the status on your invite goes from "Pending" to listing their Username so you know who they are and start communicating with whether it be in a User Group, the Video Chat Room etc etc etc

So why not get your friends along here, start your very own "User Group" for yourselves and more...let's see if we can build up the community here even further...YOUR community.

  4. I thought there would be some interest...not to take away from dedicated RC web sites but more as added value to the users here.

Thanks for your comments and although there have been around 350 registered users log in in the last 24hrs, only about 7.5% of them helped out by voting.

PLEASE, it takes merely a millisecond of your time to simply click a choice on a poll but it gives a lot back to the site in helping to make the site much better for you.

  5. As you can see, the "Latest Poll" block has now been added to the right column on the main forums page. You can get to vote on weekly questions and see how the result is going without having to keep checking the poll in the forums to stay up to date.

  6. We have got just about all kinds of recreational flying here on the site and what I mean by "Recreational" is all kinds of aviation other then commercial aviation.

However one area we don't have is for Radio Controlled Aircraft so I was wondering whether there is much interest in this and whether we should have a group of forums for Radio Controlled Aircraft building and flying...so what do you think?

  7. Hi All

An update...you may have noticed a lot of little changes that have been happening to the site of late, I hope you find these have helped in making the site more appealing to your use of it. The Home Page, the Photo Gallery and Video Library, not only have had software updates applied but also little changes bringing these areas inline with the new styling that was applied to the forums a few weeks back.

The Home Page is earmarked for a complete new look in due course but can't be done till some other changes occur.

I hope the changes thus far have not been too intrusive in your use of the site however I do believe it is all building up to something that you all will find far more appealing...and if not, you can always say something to let me know

  8. Does this mean that Runciman, Tizzard and Co have won...evil wins out over good now that even the "Constitution Reform" has been stopped by Runciman and all this is being supported by the rest of the board members, the people that you supported in the hope they would help you...as one person said to me the other day, the RAAus is 20% worse then what it was at this same time last year.

Apart from Col who has decided that enough is enough and has stood up to be counted, there are a couple of others who have also been nominated to fill the seats of a couple of board members that have elected not to stand again...and with no other nominations, they have automatically been elected unopposed so I wish them well and every bit of success in hopefully helping to move RAAus into an entity that can be considered ethical, professional and have the respect of all

  9. Hi All

In a moment of ???029_crazy.gif.9816c6ae32645165a9f09f734746de5f.gif I have lifted EVERY user ban...there were 2 main user bans in place but now every ban has been lifted.

    1.JPG.344809250b151d0d5f8deca0191e92da.JPG

This is a show of good faith from this point on...i.e. a fresh start, however the site rules WILL apply and WILL be applied by the moderators to any and every user.

This means that if you have been previously banned for promoting your products or services on this site, even mentioning them or supporting them without prior approval, you WILL be banned again.

The rules also cover attacking other site users, posting (instead of using the Private Conversation System) about moderation, attacking the site itself or site administration, moderators or staff, trying to get one up manship over others etc etc etc...in other words, let's simply try and get along helping each other in what can be through lack knowledge of other peoples experiences, a dangerous recreational activity that we enjoy so much.

This is an attempt to see if we can support each other in our flying endeavors and appreciate that we all can have different opinions plus this site, this resource, means or avenue, to come together to help each other, is provided for you at a great cost and therefore some respect of this should also be considered when using the site.

So, I would like to say "Welcome" everyone to Aircraft Pilots...I hope you join in and find something that may be of help to you! 026_cheers.gif.2a721e51b64009ae39ad1a09d8bf764e.gif

  10. Hi All, thank you for the orders of headsets...it really helps, the orders are going out to you today. Unlike other headsets we only put small margins on them to make them very affordable for you and when you know you have a 1 year clean swap warranty, you really can't lose when you consider the cost per hour which is what the headsets are all about...they are even spec'd better then the David Clark 13's at 3 times the price

Thanks to all you guys who use them and support this site with your purchase

  11. I've had a bit of an issue with mine. In the plane I normally fly I get a lot of noise coming through from the intercom (impossible to squealch out) when I've got the recreational flying headset plugged in and a different headset is plugged into the other jacks. It makes it pretty much impossible for the passenger to be plugged into the intercom because you can't hear the radio when they are. My David Clark DC-10s are fine in the same aircraft.Apart from that issue they are a good headset. excellent noise cancellation etc. Good to take if your going solo.

Apparently Bose headsets are known for causing trouble when used with other headset types, don't know what your headset type is that causes trouble but one aviator I knew of used Bose and when he connected I think (but don't quote me) a Flightcom headset, he had trouble as well. He ended up buying a 2nd set of Bose for his passenger

  12. You may even be up against election tampering against you by a senior manager or become so weak in being able to hold senior management up for treason against their own employer, the RAAus (proven by a letter sent to a Coroner and of which you will get to hear more about in due course), or find your name and money being put on the line by senior management without you even knowing about it, be tarred by the brush of corruption etc etc etc

Col, I really do wish you well mate...I have heard that of the 4 contenders for the 2 NSW positions, of which you are one of them along with the 2 existing members plus Dave Caban again, there is now only 3 of you left. Dave Caban has withdrawn so as not to water down the 2 current members votes against you and instead Caban will stand in the by-election.

I think every NSW member needs to get behind Col in any way they can and vote for him so there is one new member for NSW whilst by default one existing member is returned. Unfortunately every other State only has 1 person standing so no election needed

  14. That's what I thought the person would do, come up with the hard evidence and be able to do something about it instead of what you say is the problem...you have exactly highlighted the problem, the idea I had could be the fix

  15. I am the same, every day I read every news item that comes in to the site in order to pick one to set as the featured item on the site home page and it has got to the stage that I am scared of flying...you read about so many accidents and you just wonder what the hell are you doing, you have a wife and two young kids to think about...however I know that one day, hopefully soon, I will get back into the mindset of getting back up in the air again.

One thing I note when reading every news item is you get an idea of trends...probably about a year ago, I kept on finding news stories every couple of days that had the same outcome to the same event that was happening around the world...this one was pilots turning back when experiencing engine failures on take off...it seemed that every 2nd day I was reading a news story of that same thing...that went on for a couple of months and then the theme of news stories changed to something else.

  16. I thought I would resurrect this thread as I have noticed that since I revamped the site styling, many users that didn't have an avatar now do...in fact many other users have even changed their avatar since updating the style.

I think the new style seems to bring the user's avatar out in sight more then before which is great...looking down the posts of a thread, it is great seeing so many different avatars now.

The First Class Members also stand out more as well...thank you to all of you that have become a First Class member

  17. Due to the lies and deceit that manufacturer undertook to the users on this site they were banned, their products were banned from being mentioned and that thread was removed due to the potential that it may have just been in closing one element of the company...who knows but this site doesn't care and prefers to protect its users from any type of discussion relating to this company.

    Thread closed

  18. There is so much going on with RAAus behind the scenes including improprieties by management which can only serve to make the board ineffective and impartial which is not what any member would want from the body that is suppose to do what they can to ensure the safety of 10,000 - 11,000 people.

So, I have come up with an idea that I wonder whether it has merit or not with you people. I hope that it would go a long way to helping RAAus to become a respected and professional institution within the aviation industry.

As there is so much of this going on, so many things being said, accusations being made etc etc etc. I know 75% of what I have heard is true due to having the proof in my possession but what about the rest...is it true because if it is then there is major problems, severe improprieties being undertaken by senior management. So how does a member ascertain fact from fiction, how do they get to hear accurate information and incorrect accusations are debunked?

My idea is to have an independent person, a type of ombudsman, who can independently investigate, with full permissions and without board influence, any accusations, hearsay, improprieties etc that members may have or claim?

The RAAus Ombudsman could NOT be an RAAus member, would come from an investigative background, be not in the Industry in any way nor be known to any board member or CASA representative. They would have the powers to hear any member's accusations of improprieties, investigate without any hindrance by anyone associated with RAAus and publicly report back to the members of their findings on any application made to them. If the accusation was unfounded then the accusation is listed and stated that it was unfounded, if the accusation was substantiated, the Board must act by implementing the Ombudsman's recommendations.

For example if the Ombudsman found that an accusation of impropriety by the CEO was found to be true, the Ombudsman recommends the CEO be removed from the Association, the Board must immediately remove the CEO from the RAAus and a new CEO be acquired...THAT is in the case that the improprieties by the CEO were proven to be true.

The RAAus, in this way could only be considered by the Industry and the Association's members as being an entity that can be respected, acts professionally and is completely accountable.

The only way this could be done is by a member submitting to the Secretary a request that a member vote be held to change the constitution to incorporate this...and this needs to be done within the next month or so.

The Constitutional change would also require reference to how the Ombudsman is appointed and in a way that would safeguard the integrity of the position free from any influences.

So, what do you think? Is it a good idea? Could it put a stop to hearsay and bring accurate information out? Would it bring more integrity to the Association and trust in the Board Members and Staff and would it assist in ridding the Association of undesirables in management?
