Hi All
Does anyone have a contact phone number for Steve Bell? If so can you please let me know by sending me a PC (Private Conversation)...thanks
-
then you will need a pair of Safety Wire Pliers, some safety wire and a must have PLB
-
Yes it would but they are so well made and strong you may have a problem with CoGIan, reference item number eleven, is the 'Recreational Flying Bumper' available without the stickers and would it fit the front of a Morgan Sierra?I just thought it may be cheaper than buying an expensive collision avoidance sysytem.

Alan.

NatFly 2013 is a whole year away so who knows what may have happened by thenI'm sorry that Natfly wasn't the business success you might have hoped for. Will you be putting the same merchandising effort into Natfly 2013, or will you just go there to soak up the atmosphere?OME
Just give me a ring and I can look it up...it is whatever Aust Post chargesHello Ian, how does one estimate postage costs for your goods? -
Hi All
Well with sales down for the shop at NatFly I thought that as many of the items have to either be returned into stock or sent back to the Distributor, I would offer them here for a few days. No reasonable offer refused...reasonable as in somewhere between cost and retail price but note that there the margins are not big to start with.
Either send me a Personal Message using the site function or give me a ring on 03 9444-8025...once the NatFly stock is gone then that is it so get in now before they get returned into stock or go back to the distributors and normal prices resume

These are great overview thoughts but what about other things like extra privileges etc you would like to see included in the Ops manual?
-
Just curious...If you were in charge of rewriting the RAAus Ops Manual, what parts of it would you like to change if you were given the opportunity?...is there anything at all?
-
-
Not a problem guys...will doWell Ian I'm not sure if all of our RaaUs Board members read this forum, but when we have all put in our own two cents worth, I believe that all our comments on anything to do with this years Natfly (both positive and negative) should be forwarded in one document to all of the Board Members. What are others thoughts on this idea??Alan.

They have stopped the younger generation from experiencing the thrill of flying an aircraft, thrills that can start a life long career and was the basis of AUF...friends, family, affordable fun flyingI didn't go mainly because of last year's poor show - I couldn't see enough reason to drive all the way from Sydney to waste a whole long weekend and some money when it was borderline boring last time.Aside from the cool aerobatic show and some nice displays last year, I was really looking for TIFs, but there were none to be found. Whatever happened to the idea of encouraging people to get in a plane and have a flight? Just for the thrill of it or, perhaps it may even inspire someone to start a career in aviation. -
Another 9 days have passed and we are still climbing up the charts...naturally the higher you go the slower and harder it gets but we are still the number 1 aviation forum site in the Southern Hemisphere by a long long long shot...thousands of unique visitors every single day and we have even climbed up the US charts putting us at the 401k website across the entire USA...and how many millions and millions of websites are there just in the US?
-
It was also Greg that ran around with me at 1:00am on the Saturday morning at NatFly putting down on their side all the steel fencing that were attached to the safety mesh around aircraft as the mesh was catching the wind gusts making the steel fencing slide all around the tarmac. It was only a matter of minutes before one was going to go crashing into an aircraft that was on display.
A lot of aircraft agents owe Greg for helping to prevent potential severe damage to their aircraft.

That's what we are trying darn hard to do on this site Volksy...you are so right in what you say
-
I would like to take this opportunity to thank Greg Robertson from Best Off Aircraft Australia, the agents of the Skyranger range of aircraft, in supporting this site for ALL recreational aviators.
it is agents like Greg that make this site possible for everyone...thanks Skyranger!

The shop takings were down about 35% on previous years and the worst part about that is it was the only Pilot Supplies shop that was there this year. The weather was fine so it can't be that, threat of ramp checks...I personally think that it is easy to blame the "institution" when there is nothing else definitive to find to blame and besides, you wouldn't want people to come to NatFly if they would fail a ramp check, for their own safety, they shouldn't be flying in the first place, should they.
I think it is just all coming down to the state of the economy, the bashing of the psych by all the natural disasters, the employment situation, rising living costs like electricity, petrol etc.
For those that want to blame ramp checks, here is a thought...
Widely promote that every aircraft that lands at NatFly will have a ramp check to ensure the aircraft is registered, the pilot is currently certified, they have a current ERSA, Charts etc. Being widely promoted before the event helps to ensure that those that do come, arrive as they should. Those that can't check the boxes don't come as they shouldn't, they shouldn't even be flying.
When an aircraft arrives at NatFly, the pilot can avail themselves of the free services of a Level 2 workshop where Level 2's are standing by to talk to the pilot about their aircraft by undertaking an "UNOFFICIAL" inspection. The Level 2 may find a bearing that is nearing its end of life or a cable that is showing signs of wear etc etc etc and the Level 2 talks to the pilot about these things, helping him to be aware of some upcoming potential issues that the pilot will need to look into when they arrive back home...OR...the pilot can say to the Level 2, "Can you fix this now for me and I will pay you?" in which case the Level 2 can help out. A whole workshop tent that serves 2 purposes...1, to help pilots become aware of upcoming maintenance and safety issues with their aircraft by a free unofficial inspection and 2, if there is anything that is severely dangerous and the aircraft should not be allowed to fly home, the pilot can make repairs under the helpful supervision of the Level 2 using the free workshop or pay an on-hand level 2 to fix it (Officially) whilst they go and enjoy NatFly (parts issue to be considered) and they can then fly home with a safer aircraft...it should always be about turning negatives into positives or opportunities
Just a thought
The other thing and as Bubbleboy has mentioned in a previous thread, young potential aviator activities. I think we should get together before NatFly 2013 and organise these as a Recreational Flying initiative along with some evening entertainment by Recreational Flying members.

I would like to take this opportunity and publicly say a HUGE thanks to some people at NatFly that not only came to my rescue in a couple of situations but helped with the Recreational Flying Stand.
Firstly to Mr and Mrs "Biggles" (Aviation term used by site member) and Ed Herring who came to my rescue when I collapsed on the first day (health reasons)
To Steve Runciman (RAAus President) and Dave Caban who also came to my rescue when I was trying to hold down a flying tent, in my jocks, and my 10yo son Lachlan who was screaming and crying in fright from the fear and noise of the wind. Together we were able to remove the side walls of the tent and lower it down for less wind catchment and secure it better.
To Linda and Brian (site user brilin_air) and Qwen (wife of ex WA RAAus rep Ed Smith) who helped in the Recreational Flying tent.
To Jack, the son of "Bubbleboy" (Aviation term used by site member) who kept Lachlan (my son) occupied as they went around NatFly together...even selling the Recreational Flying "Remove Before Flight" key rings
and to any others that I may have missed
Thank YOU for your help and support towards Recreational Flying

Over the years I personally believe this site has greatly stimulated the Recreational Aviation arena and has helped in its growth, professionalism, friendliness and safety however over the last 12 months it has, in my opinion, failed dismally in this area. For the rest of this year, this site, this resource, this community, is going to go back to having that focus...professionalism, safety, knowledge, along with a strong friendly community of like minded aviators, getting together here at Recreational Flying to help each other and create new friendships.
With this we can move forward in a better collective way for our Association which I am sure the results will be reflected at NatFly 2013...with YOUR help

You're right there PF, easy to forget which day was which at NatFlyDidn't the front come through Friday night/Saturday morning though? Saturday evening had no significant Wx. Clear sky, full moon, not much wind. -
Andy, would you dismantle the wing for the night and move the pod to a better protected spot, tie it to a car etcComplete speculation follows:-As an owner of a trike and a 3axis Jabiru, an announcement of 30-40kt gusts coming through would worry me no end if the trike was out in the open, less so for the J. If I didnt have appropriate tie downs for the Trike I'd be almost beside myself wondering what I could do.. Depending on the wing itself 40kts is at or very close to flying speed......I wonder if that had anything to do with what occured...
Andy
-
Any idea what type of aircraft?
-
I was sitting outside our tent with a couple of others when a Trike took off and the general comment was that we thought they were just squeezing in a circuit before EOD...the conversation then went on to how Trikes love flying at this late time of the day with still air etc...but we then went on to other conversations as you do and a 2nd thought wasn't given to them landing again after their circuit.
This was not long after the announcement over the PA system that we were expecting 30-40 knot gust winds at around midnight with a front that was coming through
-
After talking to many that dropped in at our tent at Temora it seems Recreational Flying is still the preferred name and the change I have done to bring the site back to having an Australian focus is also what you wanted and are liking

So, although my preference is Aircraft Pilots, the site will go back to Recreational Flying and permanently left at that...YOU have spoken!
(Note the name in the header is already done...the couple of other things that will be done to complete the change will be completely painless, you will probably not even notice any difference to the site at all except the the text of the name)
-
Sorry guys but these are the only pics I have:
The OzRunways tent (that was next to ours) on top of another tent
With the help of Steve Runciman and Dave Caban, we managed to get the sides off our tent and lower it down on top the stock when the front hit
and the AWPA tent, which was on the other side of us went tumble-weeding up the street
